This review is long overdue. I have been a client for 3 years and they have been wonderful to my current fur baby and the one that recently passed away. I was recommended this place by a former co worker and I'm glad I took her advice. The staff here genuinely care about your fur babies and you as a client. Yes there are times when things get busy and you may wait but I understand the bigger picture that sometimes some babies need extra time with the vet. I would want the same if was my dog. Every now and then I will have a conversation in the waiting room with another client and I am always surprised to learn that they are long time clients. Many of which don't live near so they have other options but chose to come here. I also dont live near, I live about 15 minutes away so I have other options but I will come here because they love my fur babies the same way I do. Very compassionate staff read more

This place is really great with their patients. I had to take my little fur baby for an emergency visit and they were able to take me that same day. They are very understanding and didn't seem that expensive considering my situation. Unfortunately we lost our fur baby and they gave us options and what to do. We had Bean (dog's name) cremated and the staff took very good of us. I would recommend them to family and friends. read more

We went to Dodd Animal Hospital to put our sweet Harley down. The nurse was so compassionate, gentle and caring. She held Harleys head and talked to him during the whole thing. The vet was extremely amazing and talked to Harley as well. They truly care about your pets. They took amazing care of Harley. It took a little over a week to get his ashes back and they gave us a clay pawprint I would recommend Dodd to anyone with a pet. read more

I just called to make an appointment for my 3 month old puppy who needs a fecal test. I told the lady on the phone that my puppy has not been to their vet before. She asked if he has received his vaccines and I stated yes two rounds of vaccinations from a low cost pet vaccination clinic. She proceeded with saying then they should have done a fecal test then and got mad when I told her the vaccination clinic I go to doesn't do that. She went on with saying that's not possible that they all do a fecal test. She was very rude and said my puppy can't just get a fecal test he has to get a well exam done. I told her that is fine and asked for the price and her respond was "I don't know...everyone left for lunch. I'm just here." The already angry "man" let my dog escape and lectured me about what I should teach my do while he was loose in the parking lot. "I don't get paid for chasing people's dogs". I don't get paid for carrying people's dog" I had to carry him in myself after asking for help and this "man" just kept running his mouth as if he was always allowed to act like that to visitors. No confidence in a place where they act like they hate you and your dog because you are old and disabled and ask for the slightest help. Forget them. Should have known better. I made the biggest mistake in the world by taking my dog to Dodd Animal Hospital. I was assured by the vet that he could remove a fatty tumor from my 15 year old dog since he does this procedure with out any complications all the time. Needless to say it did not go well and I lost my dog. My dog was healthy when we arrived but then went down hill after the surgery but needless to say was charged for every thing for the next 4 days in trying to save her before losing her. This place doesn't care about your pet, just your money. I would not recommend this place to anyone and regret ever trusting them with my pet. read more

My senior kitty was limping, we're new to the area and didn't have a vet yet. I had called 3 other vets near our house and no one could get him in for a week or more! Dodd Animal Hospital got him in the next day!! I then brought him back for a panel of tests due to some other issues he was having. Everyone on staff was so nice and personable. The doctor was extremely thorough in explaining all the results of his tests, showed me the x-rays, and went over all our options. I would definitely recommend this vet, they did amazing. Very bad service,went in for a simple ear infection and they charged me 200 dollars just for her to not even be healed,when I took her back for her checkup in two weeks they said that her ear infection was the exact same so they basically charged me 200 for no reason,then when they put medicine on her for her checkup,it didn't even work and to this day she still has the ear infection,I paid over 300$ in total for no reason,highly suggest you STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE,they will take your money and won't cure your dog read more

My dogs are my children and my husband and I take all aspects of their health very seriously. We've been going to Dodd Animal Clinic for years. Dr. Vestal is the very best. He has years of experience and is not only able to care for my dogs, but also explains what caused the ailment/allergy/dental issue, etc. Staff is professional and very helpful. Techs like Floyd and Donna have excellent bedside manner and always handle my dogs with care. Recently relocated to Texas and was looking for local vet. Staff was very nice and professional but they charged a refundable fee to schedule appointment. That should have been a red flag. Took them in for grooming. Small Shih Tzu got bath and grooming and Golden Retriever got bath and brush out. Then went to new patient appointment. Shih Tzu was treated for ear infection and got heart and flea medicine for both along with small bags of dog food for both. Vet Bill was over $1,500??!!! I've never had a bill that high in all of their 13yrs. No shots, no surgeries, just a new patient visit and grooming. As nice as they were, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Very nice people, a great experience for many reasons starting with allowing me to walk in at 4 pm with a cat that I thought had broken his leg. They looked at my cat thoroughly and took their time, explaining to me what things were and why and what to do next. Even brought in a littler box for my cat as it had been in the carrier for a long time. I thought my cat broke his leg, but the veterinarian explained it was an abscess from a cat bite. He did not try to take advantage by talking me into X-rays for a lot more money, and for that, I trust the guy. And last but not least, their pricing is more affordable than others I had contacted. Time wasted here. Needed my dog groomed here and they agreed to do it, but she needed all her shots, and that she would have to wait 10 days after. Went there and got all her shots, then called later to schedule the appointment. they said they'd call me back and did two days later. Only for the groomer to say she doesn't do big dogs anymore. I told the groomer a long time ago about my dog and now she's says this after i've had everything done. read more

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!! I took my elderly dachshund for a check up here, because he was losing weight and getting weak. I was given a list of tests that he would need before ever seeing the vet. I'm sure that many of these tests were not necessary for a dog in his current state. This is not the worst issue.... Upon taking my dog into the clinic, I was not allowed to go in due to COVID-19 (and I totally understand this and have never complained about these safety precautions anywhere else). While they had my dog in the clinic--Someone removed or scraped off a growth on his back WITHOUT MY CONSENT!!! My mother later called to ask about the removal of the lump and some man (I'm assuming he was a vet tech) spoke to my mother in a tone that was totally uncalled for. He denied that anyone removed the lump and screamed and spoke in a rude and condescending manner. There were places where the lump was removed that were still red and showed signs of bleeding. I would have been thankful to have the lump removed, if I asked for it to be removed and had some follow up about what it was and the impacts it had on my dog's health. It was not long after taking my dog to this vet that I was able to take my dog elsewhere and it was determined that he was suffering from cancer. He has since passed away. I just hate that in his last days that he had to be poked and prodded unnecessarily. He deserved more respect than that and I deserved the same respect as well. My dog was treated like an experiment to someone who felt that it would be interesting to remove the lump. This is not professional or ethical and while, I know I cannot do anything about this matter....I realized that I can warn other pet owners that they should beware and use extreme caution if choosing this vet. I hate that I ever found this vet office, because my dog deserved so much better in his last days. PLEASE RECONSIDER IF YOU ARE THINKING OF TAKING YOUR DOG HERE!!! read more

I love bringing my pup to the Dodd Animal Hospital for his check ups. They answer any and all questions I may have regarding my German Shepherd puppy. The clerks, assistants, and vets are all kind to both me and him. They're very gentle with him despite him being very hyper and always wanting to give kisses. The pricing is always very fair. My pup loves coming here too because they give him treats throughout the whole visit. The waiting room is very clean all of the time, even the examination rooms are always clean. My dogs are going to this clinic for some time. Last week one of my dogs was run over. I call the clinic and they have the audacity to tell me if I want my dog to be seeing right away, I have to pay a fee of 350.00 dollars so the "doctor" can see her. This is not only unprofessional , this is ashamed that a clinic that supposed to care for animals use the situation knowing that we care for our animals, to make money or better to say to rob people. Please do not take your pets here. They do not care about your animals and are very rude. The last straw was when we took one of our animals to get some sleepy meds since she had Addison's Disease and we where going to travel far since my husband got stationed out of state. The whole ordeal was unpleasant. We were worried about her during the trip and didn't want her to have a relapse. We've been getting her shot monthly from them since we found out, my mom is an older lady and was kind enough to take care of them for us, while we got ourself situated. Unfortunately she forgot to take her one month and she had a relapse. What made matters worse was rather than being compassionate and caring the vet was very rude to her and "suggested" that we put her down if we can't take care of her. Due to my husband job we don't have much of a choice when it come to things like this. We did try to do what we though was best for them. To give her less stress by keeping them in a place they know till we were good to take them. We even spend about 2k on her when we first found out about her and had to take her to an emergency clinic. So yes we do want and love our dogs and don't care for the " suggestion" of putting her down from a vet at this clinic. Please stay away they are very uncaring and cold. read more

What an unexpected and pleasant surprise! I visited Dodd Animal Hospital when I could not find one locally in Floresville to treat my dog on the same day for Kennel Cough, which she caught from the two puppies we are fostering from a local rescue. From beginning to end, this vet's office has the friendliest and most attentive staff, and really showed they love animals, and took extra steps to show they cared about my pet. I did not feel like they were trying to hurry me out the door like I've experienced at some other vet offices. A few weeks ago, one of my cats was racing thru the house with my daughter's cat and we heard a loud noise like something large fell. Shortly after that, I noticed my 5 yr. old was having difficulty standing.We rushed her over to Fred/burg Rd. to ER. they said her 2 back paws & tail were paralyzed. Charged us $378.00 plus $42.00 for meds. Next day we took her to Rigsby Ave. Vet and was told they were too busy to see her and the smart mouth girl at the desk was very rude. My daughter said for us to go to Dodd at the other side of Rigsby and HALLELUJAH.We found the Greatest and Best Vet in this Country. I have had Vets back home in Pennsylvania, Colorado Springs, All over since we were once Military and traveled a lot. Every employee at this Hosp. was Fantastic. Caring, kind, concerned, compassionate , and when we finally saw the Vet, his bedside manner,was better than these Dr's for humans. I am 79 yrs. old and for me to write this commendation letter..this place HAS TO BE the Very Best. I Highly Recommend it for Anyone seeking a 5 star facility for ALL your PET NEEDS. Good clinic, doctors seem genuinely caring and the technical staff seems to care a great deal. Although a bit pricey I have been visiting for the last 6 years. I do feel that their reception team can be a bit rude at times and not very organized. There have been a few visits where I waited up to 2 hrs - which can be understandable as pet emergencies happen - however I would learn that they lost my file or misplaced it and the techs did not know to come and see me. In addition I strongly recommend morning appts - afternoons typically run very late and you will wait a long time. Again, PROS: good doctors and tech staff CONS: receptionists are a bit rough, Pricing, and wait times. read more

My Cat was not breathing well and I almost everywhere I called the clinics were booked. To be honest for some reason I was afraid to use a private clinic because my thoughts were I would not be able to afford it. In the past my Cat who I consider my child has had some issues breathing but I could not afford to take her where I had before at the Banfield Hospital at Windcrest. The receptionist at Dodd Animal Hospital said I could come in as a Walk-In but that it may be a while trying to squeeze her in. It was worth all the wait. I was and am blown away the low price I was charged and just could not believe it and have been bragging about the clinic since yesterday 4/13/2021. My cost was under $140 and I received two medications, and my cat received her shot as well as having a full work up. I honestly thought I was going to lose my baby and today she is back to normal and happy as ever. Last year I spent about $450 on getting her checked out and this is even with my cat Itty-Bitty being on their "Wellness Plan" which was supposed to cut down on prices. Needless to say after spending that money at the Banfield, I walked out without being able to afford her medication and the Vet saying they really couldn't see what was wrong just a bit of inflammation. I feel somewhat disappointed in myself because Dodd Animal Hospital is a place I came to with my family as a child and had no idea they still existed and that Dr. Vestal after 40 yrs was still here! It reminded me of times of going their with my pet at age 7 and I am over 40yrs old. Boy was I wrong about a Private Vet Clinic and I am referring my family and friends their with their pets because I am more than extremely happy with my experience. Every person at Dodd Animal Hospital is committed to the health and welfare of all dogs and cats, even those who are not their patients. When people tell me that there are cheaper services at store clinics, I respond that the store clinic is not taking in, providing care to, and finding homes for stray animals that its customers bring in as Dr. Vestal at Dodd Animal Hospital frequently authorized his staff to do. The stores did not wait for years and plan carefully before making a lounge for its own employees to avoid passing increased costs on to customers. The store clinics have not made the effort to mentor several female and one male graduate of veterinary schools to become competent veterinary surgeons, knowing that this would mean they would leave the employer and start their own veterinary hospitals in under-served areas, and that the employer would then start over mentoring more employees. The store clinics do not allow nursing infants to be cared for on-site so their mothers who are veterinarians have a safe environment to bring their babies to work. The store clinics did not give up family ranchland so that Texas A&M University would finally open a school in San Antonio. Other veterinarians are not committed to never turning a patient away. The veterinarians at Dodd Animal Hospital stay literate in their profession and learn ways to ease anxiety of rowdy patients and their humans, too. While there have been several veterinary technicians who have studied and determinedly befriended my own dogs, Donna and surgical assistant Floyd have shown the perseverance of many years in serving clients. Lydia is a true, reliable treasure who keeps everyone moving. I can see in my mind's eye the many Dodd Animal Hospital veterinary and front desk staff who have served us well and sympathetically maintained the peace in that space. I would do a disservice to try to name them all, particularly during these times of COVID-19 restrictions when all services are provided by employees meeting with clients outdoors and escorting the patients to and from the facilities. I would not know everyone who is currently working there. That Dr. Vestal also considered the welfare of his employees in all long-term decisions set a strong foundation which continues to make Dodd Animal my choice for veterinary care. There were at least 2 occasions when I complained about something, and after much consideration Dr. Vestal spoke with be and explained he was changing standard procedures because of my concerns. This is one of many ways I know that Dodd Animal Hospital is committed to the highest quality care. Dr. Vestal shared some reflections on his changes in veterinary philosophy with me. He told me over the years he has changed his point of view regarding what his job is, from it being the treatment of animals, to now educating the humans who take care of them. I also see that as Dr. Tim seems to have settled in and continues the tradition. That he and his wife moved here from Germany with plans for him to stay at Dodd Animal Hospital says much. I have been visiting Dodd Animal Hospital for 7 years. I have rescued 5 dogs in that time and the staff had always been kind and helpful. I especially love their boarding service and leave my dogs multiple times a year and am always greeted with a smile and a dog treat for my dogs. Most recently my husband was hospitalized during a vacation and they were understanding about the last minute boarding extension. I would definitely recommend them. A few days ago my mom and i found 3 new borns kittens in a box we decided to bottle feed them. Today 1 died and the other two were alive this morning well fed. After my doctors apt. I came home to check on the kittens and they were acting strange when i picked them up to feed them. They weren't moving just breathing softly so i called Dodd Animal Hospital to see if i can come because i wasn't sure if they were going to make it. "Maria" the clerk answered i told her the situation and she replied " oookay well its $48.50 to get them checked and if i wanted to set up an appointment" ( i have no problem paying ever!) i told her even if there on death bed. Maria said " we've never seen them before you cant just bring them in here" IT IS AN ANIMAL HOSPITAL NOT AND ANIMAL CLINIC. So disrespectful. I've been taking my furbabies to Dodd Animal Hospital since I've had them (10+ years)... No matter what, bright and early, right before closing, minor or serious emergencies they never turn you down or away... My furbabies have always received amazing care and loving from all of their staff... Recently my oldest was diagnosed as a diabetic and they have walked us through and held our hand through everything... It's been very nerve recking and scary having him sick and not knowing how to help him or why... With the help of his doctors, staff , mommy and daddy we are aggressively fighting his diabetes... i've been using this vet for years. my favorite vets at the clinic have since retired, but the new group of vets are very competent, and they explain a lot more details about what they are doing and what their expectations for my animals are. the techs are fantastic, and the front of the house is incredible. this is not the cheapest vet (i spent $1000 on the last visit for three annual checkups plus 12 months of total pest control), but i wouldn't go anywhere else. i have also used their boarding facilities. easy to use and relatively inexpensive. when i leave for a week or two at a time, i trust my three dogs and cat to the staff. i've always been satisfied. read more
