Dodson Glass did an excellent job replacing some window panes and broken screens. However, it was the dedication of installers Oscar and George that caused me to write this review. Oscar and George were not only diligent and helpful, they went above and beyond my expectations. They noticed the screen was the wrong size and made sure to build a new one AND install it the very same day. They were outstanding! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. THEY ALWAYS DO A HALF ASSED JOB. Our store front window was busted out and we called Dodson to come fix it. They arrived very quickly and were able to come back out that day to repair it. Perfect, right?! NOPE, because we ordered Lexan glass and it is like plexiglass, the window came with a great deal of shavings on it. We asked for double pane glass. It cost me $600 and the guy who put the two panes together didn't wipe out the glass and there is a TON of dog hair and scratches between the glass. You have ONE JOB! The guy didn't wipe the window down after installation and "had to get out of there to get to the next job" that he was late for. I wiped the glass down a little later and noticed all of the dog hair and scratches on the inside of the double pane. I immediately called (4:15p on November 4, 2019) and spoke with a woman who told me she would have to talk to someone to see how they wanted to handle this. Didn't hear from anyone for over a week. I called again. She said the same thing. Nothing. Another week goes by and I email. NO RESPONSE. I wait a few days and go to their location. I speak with a woman and she writes my information down and says she will have to call me after she speaks with someone to see how to handle it. That was two weeks ago. I still haven't heard from her. It is now Dec 8, 2019. Run! Do NOT waste your money with these people. They care nothing about the quality of work they do. They even used the broken wood frame that was in the window prior to the window being busted out. YOU HAVE ONE JOB. Ridiculous. read more

The employees here are lovely, and really want their customers to be happy-I brought a few double paned windows here to be replaced with new glass-and they did a great job!! They also replaced the screens on some of our windows that had holes in the screen!! Both of our orders were finished sooner than promised-but don't count on that!! 07/18/2023 Never again! I ordered my "rain" glass for my door in March of 2023. They said it would be 4 to 6 weeks. When they came to install they took out my clear glass and installed basically the same same glass...clear. They had to order the correct "rain" glass. After again a 6 week wait the glass was defective and had to once again be reordered. Long story short in July, 2023 I finally received the correct "rain" glass. My door was damaged from taking out the glass multiple times. When the installer left he specifically asked if it was okay to charge the balance to my card on file. I told him it was not and I wanted the talk with the girl in the office that I had been dealing with and asked him to have her call me. She did not and charged my card. I called her and asked if I could receive a discount and was told she would have to talk with the owners. I received a call back saying that since the order was finally satisfied no discount would be applied. 4 months later... longest 6 weeks ever! I reached out to Dodson glass to repair a fogged kitchen window (double pane, gas-filled, which rotated out via a handle). They came out on schedule to do the estimate. I put down a deposit and I ordered it. Outside of their control was the long wait to get the glass. Eventually they got it and we scheduled a install date. The job had some complications, but John, the gentlemen who did the work, got through them. The window repair needed to happen that day because the house was closing and the final inspection was coming up fast. Again, they persevered and got the window repair done. The new buyer was impressed. Good work. I will call them again when I next need a window specialist. read more

I would seriously warn anyone from using this company for window repairs. I wasted 6 months trying to get an estimate from them. They kept confusing the amount of windows in my house with the 3 windows that I needed to replace and the additional 12 windows that needed to be repaired. This went on for 6 months. I went down to the shop 3 times, spoke with the owner as well and still no results. They sent out 2 different people who both did the same measurements and still kept coming up with the wrong number of windows and what needed to be done. Upon my final visit to the shop today, I called the owner while at the shop who advised me that they decided not to do any of the work for me. They never had the courtesy to let me know this as I continued to email them to beg for an estimate. They also started to do work at a neighbor's home and were unable to get the parts! This company is a disaster in my opinion. I hope my review saves others from such a waste of their time and for such disappointment. I would give them a zero if one star wasn't the lowest review I could give. Shame on them! read more

Like another reviewer I don't think Dodson deserves this low rating. I called the other glass and mirror shop in town and they didn't even bother answering the phone during business hours! And after two voicemails, I never even got a call back! My experience with Dodson was 180 degrees different. I called once. I spoke with Mike. Mike came out and gave me an estimate the next day. I agreed to the price (two custom frameless shower doors). Mike said the glass could take 2-3 weeks to be cut and delivered and, although I wanted the job done faster, he explained that it was done elsewhere and he had no control over that part. Well, Mike called less than a week later to tell me the glass was ready and his crew installed it two days later. All-in-all, it took about 10 days from initial call to installation. The installation crew was great. They were courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable offering me mounting options on the fly as they went. And they did a fantastic job... Do you want the long story or the short one? Here is the long one. They were hired by our cabinet company to provide a mirror and glass shelves for a new wet bar. I marked on the wall exactly where the cabinets were to be installed, and they came out and measured for the mirror and glass shelves. We installed the cabinets in order to get the electrician and plumbing finished. The cabinets were installed exactly where I had marked it for Dodson. They came back with the wrong size mirror, and Tom blamed it on the warehouse guys for cutting it wrong. The tempered glass shelves were cut too long and would not fit, and Tom blamed it on the tiny LED light strip, even though the shelves were 1" too long. Tom said on the phone that it was no problem, that they would get me new ones, so I texted him the measurements. Weeks went by. I reached out to the cabinet installer, and he was told that they said it was MY fault, and I was out of luck. After more emails, it was finally agreed that Dodson would provide the shelves but I wohave to install them. So it is now 4 months later and I am installing the shelves today. I love Dodson Glass. I use them ALL the time for various projects from window and screen replacement to cutting glass or mirror for framing, display shelving and tabletops. They are a much better value than Charlottesville Glass and Mirror or Albemarle Glass. Plus, David at the front desk is a dear. They are popular with the leasing management companies though, and there are times of the year when they get swamped with screen repair, etc. demands from renter changeovers. At those times it can sometimes be a longer wait to get what you need. So if you need instant gratification, you may want to spend more and try your luck elsewhere. As the old saying goes...You can get it cheap, you can get it good, or you can get it fast, but you can only ever get two out of the three. (Although, I have sometimes gotten all three at Dodson :-) read more

I had to write a review to bump up the star rating for these folks. I have used them in the past for tempered glass for a high end floating shelf and they delivered/produced the product just fine. I also experienced good service while inquiring about window tinting. They also gave me both free disk pads (the things used to protect the glass from the surface it may be sitting on) and a free portion of VHB double sided tape. Also a free ample of window film to take home and play with. Only giving three stars because that's my only experience with them but I don't think everyone is having a one star experience with Dodson. I am not an employee and have no relationship with them. I am an honest Yelp reviewer and happened to be looking them up for some screening questions and could not believe they had just a one star rating. I use Dawson glass for years and years and recommended them to clients. I went to have screens made they made the wrong screens size they forgot to put pull tabs to get them out of the window and they blamed it all on the customer the sales guy was very rude when I went back to pick up the replacement screens and wanted to charge me an extra $100 after we had spent over 900 with them already. I had to go back 4 times before they got it Wright. have recommended them to all my clients for year's I own my own business and will never use them again our recommend them again read more

I honestly hate writing poor reviews for local companies, but after our horrible experience with Dodson, I feel like I need to so others know to stay away. My husband and I own a townhouse in Charlottesville that we were renovating, and someone suggested we use Dodson to replace our sliding glass doors and windows. They were initially very kind and the gentleman who came to measure the windows was very friendly and helpful. They sent us an invoice quickly and we paid the full cost (minus installation) the same week, on June 26. A week went by and we hadn't heard anything about an estimated delivery date, even though they cashed our check on June 29. My husband called and asked about a delivery estimate and they said they could not find our order. He explained that they cashed the check we wrote, so the order had been processed and was told they would call us back. They did not call us back so he called again. This time we were told the order was placed on July 3 and would take 6-8 weeks to come in. We thought it odd that they cashed the check before placing the order, but moved on thinking we were good to go. In early August, we had not received an update from them about when the windows might come in so we called to check in. The woman my husband spoke with said, again, that she couldn't find the order. After putting him on hold she located the order and said it had been placed on July 29. At this point, we were confused because we were originally told the order was placed on July 3 (and our check was cashed on June 29). He asked how that miscommunication happened and they had no answer for us. They told us there was nothing that they could do, apologized, and said to expect the windows around early September. Early September came and we still had not received any information about the window delivery. At this point, we had also engaged a contractor to begin work on the rest of the renovation we were doing and needed to know about the windows so the contractor could factor this into their plans. Dodson had no update for us on the windows except that they were still not there and told us we should expect them around early October. Frustrated but with no other option, we continued to wait. We finally got the windows from them in NOVEMBER and when our contractor picked them up, there was one missing from the order. We called Dodson and they said they had it and would bring it by to us the next day. The next day came and I noticed someone on our porch measuring one of the windows. Turns out it was Dodson "checking to make sure it was the right one". The gentleman who was measuring told me he'd be dropping the window off later that day. He didn't drop it off until later in the week. At this point, we had our windows but were so frustrated that we ended up speaking with the owner about how terrible the experience had been. He was kind and offered to compensate us for the trouble. We thought we were done with Dodson and could move on and never work with them again. Fast forward to January, and as our contractor is moving on to the final part of our renovation - putting the windows in - we find out that ALL of the windows and sliding doors we ordered (8 windows and 3 sliding doors) had been measured to be at least 2-3 inches smaller than they should be. On top of that, our skylight window was 12 INCHES off and the window for our second bedroom was ordered incorrectly (it opens the wrong way). The contractor said both the second bedroom window and skylight window were unusable that way and needed to be re-ordered, but the others he could add exterior and interior trim to make it work. This added significant labor and materials costs to our project and we are still waiting for the skylight and second bedroom replacement windows. Hopefully, I'll be able to update this review in the future with a good resolution, but the bottom line is DO NOT use these guys. They are horrible at communication and customer service, and clearly incompetent when it comes to measuring. From prior reviews, this seems to be a pattern for them. I hope they can correct these issues in the future, as we always prefer to work with local business when we can, but in this case it was a major mistake. read more

Just awful. If I could give zero stars, I would. They came out and measured my screens on May 18. I was told it would take a week and a half. Six weeks later, still no screens. I got constant excuses: the person handling that just stepped out and will call back in ten minutes; we are swamped with the pandemic and will have them ready in a week; the guy who is making them just went out back and I will have an answer this afternoon for you; we are making things for UVA for back to school and are backed up. BUYER BEWARE !!! I had a small window terrarium that needed 2 windows regazed . After many phone calls , somoni finally came out & looked at it I asked for an estimate ,no estimate . I mentioned it would be coming down soon because I was getting new siding ,he said call us when it is down because he would have had to do it leaning over a sink . I called once it was down ,2 men finally came, again I asked for an estimate , no estimate .They were here for2 hrs ,using clear caulk on everything ,then I was shown an invoice saying reglazed windows & was asked to sign it, I thought it was to say yes the work was done , I asked how much & was told the office would call me with a total. I was called 2 hours later & was told the invoice was sent to my email .I had a shock when they told me $465 .I looked at the invoice only thing added was the amount .I emailer several times wanting it itemized was ignored .Called several times & was sandbagged ,went in in person, found out I was charged for 1/2 days work & they still wouldn't itemized. Asked for a credit for another small window to be fixed ,they told me they would send someone out to measure the window for free but it would be $150 to fix it . HARD PASS. The salesman/estimator and the installer were excellent. Sorry I can't say the same for the woman who usually answers the phone. We ordered glass to be installed, made a deposit, and when we hadn't heard anything from them 3 weeks after the date they had said it would arrive, my husband called them. The woman who answered was able to tell him nothing and said she would call back. A week passed, no return call, so he called again and got the same response. Another week went by with no return call. The third time, I called, and thank goodness a very nice gentleman answered the phone. He seemed genuinely upset about what had happened, and with a little research he was at least able to tell me that they did have our glass. Unfortunately, he then said that someone would call me to schedule installation. The same unpleasant woman we had talked to before did call back within an hour. She proceeded to inform me that the installer had left a message on my answering machine three days earlier to schedule installation. There had been no message on my machine. I told her that no one had called. She then proceeded to inform me that they would be out the next morning to install. She didn't ask if that was ok, she told me. I told her that wouldn't work with my schedule. She obviously was not pleased with my response. It so happened that the next date/time she offered didn't work either and she started getting quite testy. The third date she gave me worked, but honestly, when a customer is paying over $800 for glass, none of this is acceptable. The installer was excellent. He was polite, friendly, and did his job well. The only thing is, these were three rather large pieces of glass that were being installed rather high up, and they sent only one person. He struggled, through no fault of his own. It is highly unlikely I would do business with them again. They need to hire an office worker who understands what customer service entails. read more

We contracted with Dodson in spring 2019 to replace all the windows in our house. We were told the job would take less than a week once the windows came in. We put down a deposit of $18,000. It was nearly ONE YEAR later before the job was finished. No unusual circumstances. No problems in the house. The problems were between Jeld Wen, the manufacturer, and Dodson. Incompetence, miscommunication, multiple wrong deliveries, no oversight or follow through. Unbelievably bad customer experience. Never an apology or even a phone call from the owner. As soon as the windows were installed, they were calling for the rest of the money. No offer of a discount for all the wasted time, time away from work, etc. We paid but I would not wish Dodson on anyone. Avoid at all costs. read more

First, we called Dodson in September of 2020 . . . Yes. 2020 . . . to repair windows in the new home we purchased. Round one was done by a man who angrily cussed around our 3-year-old the entire time he was fixing the two windows he finished. A year goes by with us constantly trying to contact them and being given a complete run around. In 2021, three more windows are fixed. The guy doing the work was very nice, so that part was pleasant. We still had 3 windows to be fixed, and again waited a year while repeatedly contacting them, hearing nothing back, being given the run around, being told the owners were sick, so couldn't get back to us, etc. They finally send out two guys who finish the final three windows, and when the last one is going in, we realize the windows are completely different (and far cheaper) than the ones we paid to have installed. We call again, and are still being given the run around, and being made to feel like this is our problem for not being happy with being swindled. Terrible company. Terrible. And the woman who is in charge of their phone could not be worse if she actively tried. We will never again use Dodson as soon as they correctly finish the work they should have done 2 years ago. read more

Super disappointing experience with this company. Measurements were taken wrong by their salesman and when our glass came in it didn't fit. Waited another week for the right size glass. We asked for a discount on the final cost but they wouldn't budge. The glass is a good quality but the employees' communication and customer service was not even though we spent a lot of money. They are less expensive than Charlottesville glass but they are slow. Called them up a week after a week and a half and they hadn't started it. Make sure you get your estimate in writing. My bill was 13% higher than what I was told. read more

This place is great! I called this morning around 10 am about getting a broken window fixed. They had someone out here to give an estimate around 1 o'clock and he fixed it on the spot. It took him about an hour and only cost about 80 bucks. I highly recommend these guys. Quick, courteous and decently priced. read more

I dropped four window screens off to either be fixed or replaced at Dodson Glass and Mirror in Charlottesville, VA. It took Dodson over three weeks to have them ready and I commented on how long it took to receive my new screens and the employees response was that the screen tech was on vacation. To my surprise the window screens were two inches too wide despite leaving the old screens as a reference. I brought this error to the attention of the owner Amy who insisted on fixing the screens. I had mentioned to Amy that I would be moving out of state and she said she would ensure the screens would do what she could to ensure they were available to my realtor who I assigned as my representative. I was reluctant to have Dodson fix the screens because it already took them too long to fix the screens, but I agreed. After three additional weeks the window screens were not ready and by then I had not move out of state. I left my realtors phone number and I called several times to followup on the status of the screens. Again, the screen tech was absent due to an illness. I finally was able to reach Amy who suggested she left a message to my realtor indicating the screens were ready. However, I had asked when the call was made and Amy responded that it was prior to my most recent call. It makes no sense that I would call after she called my realtor as she said she did. Furthermore my realtor said she never received a call from Amy. Amy's response was that she does not have the time to followup on every customer who does not pick up their products. In total, Dodson had my screens for approximately two months which is much too long. Customer service is not a priority at Dodson Glass. It's also bad business to rely on a single screening tech for a screening and glass company. Had it been my business I would cross train other employees in case of emergencies. It would be wise to go with another business and save yourself the heart ache. read more

I will never use this company again. We needed screens. I finally got a call ( 3 weeks later) saying they would be ready by the end of the day (Thurs). I told the person I'll just come and pick them up. It was going to take another 2 weeks before they can get someone to install them. He also told me that he had to fix the current invoice so our landlord could pay it and he'll call me back. Well he never called me back. I waited 1 week. I finally called and the screens weren't ready yet. What company only has 1 tech for screens?!? They called me back and I finally go to pick them up. Well the guy never called my landlord! My experience with this company has been terrible. They installed "free" screens; the window installation that they did was a shoddy job, and the screen installation was even worse. When I went back, now two years later, they wanted to charge extra $$ for drilling holes in the screens--because it's a totally non-standard way to install screens--when they had done the original installation in that incorrect and troublesome way! Don't trust them unless all they're doing is popping in a box window...and if that's the window job you need, you can do it yourself for much cheaper. read more
