I primarily started with them because a veteran owns it, then kept them because of the 5 star services they have been providing me for years. My rental home had mice way back in the day, I was living there at the time and my wife was not having it and needed them gone FAST. Scratching in the walls and so on. The home is a 1959 and from what they said in VA this is expected. We have a fire pit and we kept a cord of wood close to the house and that's where they were having the time of their life - until winter that is, then they came in for warmth and food. I called SPRK and the company owner came and evaluated the property himself (not a flash in and out, he was very thorough). He easily located the places that they could enter the home and took care of them. He placed bait stations all around the outside of the home and several inside in key areas. Within 2 - 4 weeks everything was silent. No scratching, nothing in the basement running around, nadda. Happy family! Cut to years later, now it's a rental and we had some not-so-clean folks renting the house and they brought in among other things, you guess it - friggin' roaches. We lived there 9 years and NEVER had a bug besides a spider or an ant here and there. The worst part is they never said anything and we walked into this festering issue when the house was empty. I 911 called SPRK that day and the next day they came out beat the sh*t out of the problem with some great spray treatments and bait stations, hence they eradicated the problem. Since the house is a single family home AND not connected to anyone else the problem was taken care of swiftly. Had it been a row house or town home that could have posed more issues with controlling them. Now I maintain the inside monthly service and the quarterly outside rodent prevention service and everything Is great now (AGAIN). Bottom line is, if you want a PERSONAL pest service that get's the job done, hire them. If you call or email them you will get a person quite promptly. HOWEVER, If you want some huge national franchise pest company that has new people every week and could care less when or if the pest issue is corrected then these folks are not for you. TLDR: Orkin lies. Go local instead. They tried scamming me for more money, and refused to refund me…read moreafter they failed to do what they promised. Long Review: Stay away from this company. I've worked in real estate and called for estimates from exterminators in several states, Orkin has brought me the worst experience I've ever had. I inquired about a mouse issue, the person on the phone was pressuring me to buy quickly as possible. He offered a discount that would go away if I hung up. This is a slimy sales tactic and I should've stopped there. Because the service they gave me was a blatant lie from what I was promised on the telephone. After being pressured to not inquire with other companies, I decided to let Orkin inspect my home for pests. I was promised mouse traps and the enclosure of holes for the rats so they wouldn't re-enter. Visiting my house, they REFUSED TO CLOSE THE HOLES, and told me that it was worst for the infestation if they closed them. They said specifically that closing the holes would "rile and trap the rats indoors." Later I contacted another company, and they told me there would be nothing wrong with closing these gaps. And they even looked confused to suggest that closing holes could make a rat infestation worse. So Orkin not only failed to provide the service that was promised, THEY ALSO LIED by saying that closing the gaps was worst for my house. When Orkin inspected my house, they explained to me that rats were entering through the roof and living in my attic, and I needed to fumigate my home to get rid of them. I am now convinced that Orkin only said this to charge me more for a service that was completely unnecessary. Orkin said the cost would be upward to SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. I'm extremely happy I didn't pay for this. The other company explained to me that fumigating my home was unnecessary and it was unlikely rats were entering through the roof. Instead, this second company completed the service that Orkin refused to provide, and they filled the gaps, window cracks, and holes with wire meshes. This was something that was promised by Orkin that they didn't provide. And unlike Orkin, the new company I called had no issue of me contacting other exterminators in the area, and were much more courteous than the Orkin inspector who insisted that there was nothing they could do to stop the rats. Not only was this second company not charging me for any of the extra work, but they behaved very cordially while encouraging me to inquire others in case their work wasn't enough. Orkin made me feel like their services were the only option, with a sense of emergency to pay them for extra services as quickly as possible. This is a very dishonest sales tactic, and made me unnecessarily stress in the process of buying a new home for my family. When I decided to call back for a refund, which I felt was justified since Orkin didn't close the gaps like they promised me they would, they refused. Not only did they refuse, but they had the audacity to say that closing gaps wasn't in their services for the initial inspection. Even though that was the primary service promised for their first visit. It was the whole reason I called them out, and they wouldn't even give me a refund for their failure to provide what they promised. I'm very upset with Orkin, and am going to let everyone I know not to use their services because of the blatant disrespect I've felt throughout this entire process. I don't want to cause any issues by naming the better company that I've picked instead. I will just say that I recommend for everyone to look for a local exterminator company instead of Orkin.
