This is a bit long BUT if you really want a pest control service that's been evaluated over years - READ IT! :-) This review is wayyyy overdue. I've had this service since it opened. I primarily started with them because a veteran owns it, then kept them because of the 5 star services they have been providing me for years. My rental home had mice way back in the day, I was living there at the time and my wife was not having it and needed them gone FAST. Scratching in the walls and so on. The home is a 1959 and from what they said in VA this is expected. We have a fire pit and we kept a cord of wood close to the house and that's where they were having the time of their life - until winter that is, then they came in for warmth and food. I called SPRK and the company owner came and evaluated the property himself (not a flash in and out, he was very thorough). He easily located the places that they could enter the home and took care of them. He placed bait stations all around the outside of the home and several inside in key areas. Within 2 - 4 weeks everything was silent. No scratching, nothing in the basement running around, nadda. Happy family! Cut to years later, now it's a rental and we had some not-so-clean folks renting the house and they brought in among other things, you guess it - friggin' roaches. We lived there 9 years and NEVER had a bug besides a spider or an ant here and there. The worst part is they never said anything and we walked into this festering issue when the house was empty. I 911 called SPRK that day and the next day they came out beat the sh*t out of the problem with some great spray treatments and bait stations, hence they eradicated the problem. Since the house is a single family home AND not connected to anyone else the problem was taken care of swiftly. Had it been a row house or town home that could have posed more issues with controlling them. Now I maintain the inside monthly service and the quarterly outside rodent prevention service and everything Is great now (AGAIN). Bottom line is, if you want a PERSONAL pest service that get's the job done, hire them. If you call or email them you will get a person quite promptly. HOWEVER, If you want some huge national franchise pest company that has new people every week and could care less when or if the pest issue is corrected then these folks are not for you. He saw the picture I gave him and told me that its a paper wasp nest and went about how it's safe to remove it myself vs paying them to remove it. Since we moved into our house, we've had issues with wolf spiders. Unfortunately, I'm very allergic to most insect bites, especially those from spiders. (I'll spare you the pictures, but the swelling and pain can be extreme after a single bite.) After starting to see the spider population growing even larger this spring season, I decided enough was enough and we needed professional help! I found SPRK on Yelp and loved that it's a veteran-owned business with great service. I explained our issue and a couple technicians came to check out the place. They also discovered the ants in our back yard were getting to be pretty aggressive, so they said they would treat for both ants and spiders. The technicians were very professional, explained everything, and worked efficiently. When everything was done, I received an email with a clear breakdown of the areas treated and the types of treatments used. They have an online customer portal where you can pay and keep track of the services rendered. The treatment was back in June and I can happily say that we are spider free! (It did take a couple weeks to see the population completely subside, which made me a bit nervous, but they quickly responded to an email to reassure me that this was a normal timeframe for the initial treatment.) I can't tell you how happy I am to go the entire summer without a single spider bite reaction. This review is long overdue. I reached out to this company because it seemed like an honest and trustworthy business. I myself am in the trades and run my own business so I know the little things to look out for when reaching out to other companies. The owner was very responsive and friendly when I was upfront with what I was looking for. In short, I wanted to pay them to come out and look at my property just to point out access points where mice may have been entering our home. For awhile we had random mice getting into our basement and I just couldn't seem to find any entry points. He said his company offers free estimates, which I knew but I still wanted to pay them for their time and advice. From there I set an appointment and the tech came out with his helper. They walked in and out of the property and he admitted he didn't see any obvious access points, but he gave me a couple recommendations which I followed and now, months later there are no hits on mouse traps whereas before I'd get one in the same spot at least once a week. I gave them a call, and they informed me that if the wasp or bee nest was inside the walls, they wouldn't be able to address it because it would require tearing down the walls. He gave me a lot of advice on how to inspect safely myself and mentioned that if that were the case, he didn't want to take my money for sending a technician if it couldn't be done. I appreciated his honesty and the advice he provided. I ended up going with another company that could handle a potential infestation if it was inside the walls. Our first year with them was great. We used to mainly have Jeff when taking care of our property. He always checked for entry points and ways to prevent if any issue came up. He also was great about explaining things and we understood there were some issues that while would not disappear, would have a way to prevent them. After Jeff was not longer available, there was always a big struggle to get a technician who would listen to our concerns and we even had one who was very disrespectful and we had to ask to not have him at our home again. The last year, I always needed to reach out to Patrick who was very condescending and not willing to listen to our concerns. I understand that sometime we would need to ask for follow up service if any new issue came up but I also know that pest control services do check for preventive measures when they come up to service. 3 months ago I called and shared that there was something that looked like a bee nest hanging from the gutter. The gentlemen I spoke to said it was probably a wasp nest that since we had just gone through our first cold week, it was probably frozen and nothing to worry about. He said that would be checked on our next service. Next service happened and that was not looked into nor anything was said to us about it. Their communication level is poor. I called them and the lady I spoke to kept on saying they do not do gutter work. I let her know I didn't expect them to work on my gutters but the nest was something pest control companies usually take care of. Not sure where the disconnect was but I was just too exhausted to keep giving them our business. They also raised the price by $30 without letting us know. Patrick said he sent an email but I am still not able to find it. Our experience was overall awful in the end. We found a company that takes care of the wasp nest and will be looking ways to prevent entry of any issues. I really don't like leaving negative reviews but I hope this helps to not allow someone else go through what we did with them. read more
