Ordered a hot dog, two malts, and a mozz stick. In return I got a triple burger, two soft serve ice creams with no malt, and the only right thing was the mozz sticks. Only person there. Was Unfortunate because the burger and ice cream was good. If only if I got my actual food.... looked at my bill and was over charged. Just about everything was wrong. I love to go to a drive-in get American food and enjoy a beautiful day with my wife! I really like a good pulled pork sandwich, but the one from here if it was any drier, I could use it to wipe up the floor when it gets wet. Unless I missed what they were going for in what I got for a sandwich I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be a visible and physical feeling of sauce in the pork. Otherwise, the macaroni bites were awesome. The waitress who served us was awesome as well with her friendly service! The hot dogs were good. The fries tasted like old oil. They were chewy and cold. Definitely cooked in old oil. The prices are high. I get food prices have gone up. We ordered a side of coleslaw for 2.25. We got like one heaping tablespoon. We didn't get a basket size meal. We ordered it as a side. When we got home which is across the street we realized we got screwed. It tasted fine but never would I pay 2.25 for a tablespoon. So even though it's close I won't go again. We paid 12 something for one hot dog and large fry with a coleslaw. No drink. 9 something would have been better. Red hots restaurant next door is cheaper and food is better. Very disappointed. The Dog in Suds in Grayslake is well worth the drive. Aldo footings here are like sausages. Not a dog and suds footlong. People won't come back. I want nothing more than small independents to succeed, and you have to admire these people, formerly part of a chain that numbered in the hundreds and stretched across the midwest. Last I heard, the chain was down to about a dozen locations. Not sure if there is any central ordering or commisary supplier any more, perhaps each location sources their own food and concocts their own methods. I ordered the Texas burger and an order of fries. The menu board lacks any description, I would have made a different selection as the TX burger comes with BBQ sauce, which doesn't appeal to me. The fries were fine. Ordered a root beer, of course, but they were out of frosty mugs. The car hops are exceptionally courteous and friendly, either family members or maybe local high schoolers. This is the perfect place to go for that dessert craving. Hubby and I came here (for the first time ever) after dinner in Richmond. We were craving milkshakes. Do you like your milkshake super thick and full of flavor? This is the place for you. In fact, their peanut butter milkshake is so thick they give you a spoon to eat it with as it won't sip through a straw very well. Hubby absolutely loved his peanut butter milkshake and ate it with the spoon. I loved my chocolate strawberry milkshake as I devoured it through the straw. Super thick and full of flavor. I was wondering how the stars were so low for this place, it looks like there were some issues years ago but they have fixed them as of our visit. We were in Richmond for dinner and wanted a shake so we came up to this place. First, reasonable cost for a shake; a good shake, hand spun vs. thick milk. Second, the flavors were great. My wife got Chocolate Strawberry while I had peanut butter; both were great! Mine was so thick (on a 90 degree day) I had to eat it with a spoon. FALLIN FOR PUMPKIN We were driving down the road on a 70 degree October weekend and the marquee in front of here said, "Best Pumpkin Shakes"! What? That's a very bold statement. We safely pulled a u turn on the road because we needed to see if the hype was worth it. The place was very crowded. We pulled in the drive thru and placed our order. They asked us to pull along the fence line after we ordered. The girl who ran our pumpkin shake out was also wearing an old school change dispenser. How cool was that? I can't believe they still make those. Now on to the pumpkin shake. Damn it was really good. I've never had one before but I'll definitely come back for one. It was like having a slice of pumpkin pie with whipped cream on top. The only thing missing was the crust. If you find yourself in the area then I highly recommend you try one of these fall treats before the pumpkin shake season is over. On a side note I've never been to a Dog n Suds. As a child I always my Dad to stop at one of these and he never did. So I'm glad to finally knock this off of my bucket list. Ha! I honestly can't believe they are still in business because I haven't seen one of these locations in a long time. I decided to do a little research and found out there is only about 20 of these locations left. The restaurant started in 1953 in Champaign, Illinois by Don Hamacher & Jim Griggs. These two music teachers from the University of Illinois loved hot dogs and root beer! The rapid success of the stand led the teachers to leave the University and get into the fast-food franchising business full time. Dog n Suds became one of the most successful fast-food franchises in the country. I honestly can't wait until next fall for this delicious pumpkin shake. Slow and expensive. $4.50 for a large soda... I comprehend they make their own soda, but that's expensive. $7.00 for a small of their version of a blizzard. They make their food to order, which is nice, but when it's busy, it can take awhile to get your food. Just wish it was more efficient. It was nice to try but too expensive for fast food. I very much enjoyed the corn dog. I think that's the first one I ever had that used a Vienna sausage. I don't think I'll ever get a corn dog anywhere else. Had to try the cheese curds. Today at 4:04pm I visited the Dog & Suds and ordered 2 dogs and fries it was the worst hot dog I've ever had. It was ice cold and the bun was stale it tasted like yesterday's trash. The fries were hot and no salt on them. As a consumer you're better off buying an Oscar Mayer hot dog and eating it right out of the package that's how bad they tasted. Hospital cafeteria food is better. They should do themselves a favor and close the business it's a waste of their time and money to stay in business and continue to sell that kind of slop and expect people to eat it. Save your money and don't eat there you will be disappointed. It deserves zero stars. read more

My 100th review goes to Dog n Suds. The coney dog has been a favorite of mine since being a child. My dad made the best coney sauce so I am forever spoiled. This place is a classic hotdog place like they had long time ago with the same style fast food and root beer. They serve you in car or outside on tables. Quick, clean and prompt. I ordered a hot dog with relish and mustard only and the same girl brings me a hot dog with only ketchup. There is no adult working there it is all teenagers who could care less. Dog & Suds has been around for decades and decades.  The young gentleman at this location is the current owner and a very nice guy. Food here is just OK, though. The hamburger seemed to be not of great qualty meat. My Italian sausage was not good by any standard and the giardiniera was not good. French fries were fresh and decent. My root beer was pretty good. Prices were reasonable but I think too high for what we got. read more

So happy to see this place isn't just in Missouri! It's a great drive in, similar to an A&W. I pulled in for lunch, ordering the dog and suds basket which is a hot dog, fries and cole slaw, for $5! Such a steal for lunch! Hot dog, was decent. Fries, similar to the crinkle cut you get at Culver's and they are great! Cole slaw, tangy! I liked it but at first bite, I was like woah! I was one of two cars there, so they weren't very busy. The service was good and the car hop checked on me periodically to be sure I had what needed. Since the "Old Owners" (the Carlsons) have taken the place back, the food and quality of service and everything is just as good as I remember from my childhood. The cheese curds here are so good, I have to order them every time. My family will fight me for them! Tip: please tip your hops, they make a waiter/waitress wage, as that is what they are. I don't mind paying almost any premium for an exceptional product. But 8 bucks for a double charcoal burger where the bun cracks in half because it is so stale really pisses me off. Chicagoans travelling to or from Lake Geneva via route 12 cannot help but pass this restaurant at the end of the universe that is Illinois, and thank the gods for it. This is a 50s style drive-in restaurant - yes, you roll down the window and they affix the tray to your car window. Yes, the waitresses wear satin highschool athletic jackets, proudly sporting the Dog and the Suds. Yes, you eat in your car, but NO the servers don't wear rollerskates. Kids get their meals in these awesome trays in the shape of a '55 Thunderbird, metallic purple with key lime green flames - my son was beside himself. The chicken fingers were actually chicken smiley faces, which was a little creepy, but not weird enough not to eat. I had an italian beef sandwich that rivaled J.
