Busy place on a Sunday morning. There were three of us in our party. All of our dishes were big portions, served hot and were delicious. I'm an egg, bacon and sourdough toast with hot coffee gal. My order was perfect and I enjoyed the endless coffee refills. I absolutely love this pancake house. It is more than your average pancake house. They are also open for dinner as well. One of my favorite breakfast meals is the pot roast skillet. It is fantastic and just the right amount of food. It has pot roast mixed with cheese and 2 eggs any way you like them. I prefer my eggs over easy. I usually get a side order of their pancakes and then an extra side of sourdough toast. My husband and I split this. I will sometimes add a 3rd egg as well. I love their soups, they are so good. I have had various dinner entrees which are sizable and enough for 2 people to split depending upon what you order. I have had the Reuben and tuna melt which came with soup and a side of fries. I recently tried the chicken florentine crepes which are so savory. These crepes are filled with chicken sautéed spinach and mushrooms with a creamy hollandaise sauce topped over the 2 crepes. I usually get my food to go since I live just down the street. Their service is pretty quick. read more

I am glad we decided to stop in for breakfast. This was our first trip to Lake's Pancake House and we are definitely planning to return. The staff are friendly and provide great suggestions. Even though the restaurant was full, service was great and the food came out fairly quickly. I had the avocado skillet. It was a delicious combination of tomato, bacon, pepper jack cheese, and hash browns with slices of avocado. The over medium eggs were prepared nicely with a wonderful runny yolk. I chose the side of pancakes. They were two and they were flavorful and fluffy. I added a side of sausage gravy. The gravy was a bit thinner than most gravies and I like that it wasn't heavy. From the time I walked in, all the workers were very friendly. Customers in there eating and talking amongst themselves just enjoying their time. Greeted me, nothing but respect and hospitality. Just ordered something simple. It was a cheeseburger & fries. You talk about a butter burger with that old school flavor to it, this is the place to get it from! The burger was thick. Very juicy. Came with toast so we tried the cinnamon raisin bread which was amazing. It looked like a sliced cinnamon roll with raisins and had sugar crust. The only disappointment was the Oreo pancakes. The pancake had full little Oreos in it and came with a side of ice cream, which was very good (flavorful and creamy), but I didn't not expect that at breakfast (it was too early). When we targeted this place for breakfast last week I think they said that they were open for 10 weeks. I had noticed the spiffed up parking lot and exterior and flag strings drawing attention. We love our breakfasts and we continually try to find new/good ones. It all starts with their coffee and it was good. It wasn't that weak church-lady coffee you get in so many other Greek diners. I give the coffee 4 out of 5. To be clear, I do not know if this is Greek owned our not, but the decor and menu screams "Greek diner" and in the Chicagoland area, that is a good thing. I had the crepes and they were good. Could use a little hint of vanilla or something to give them a more distinct flavor, but they were a solid 4 out of 5. (Do you see where this is going?) My husband had the Greek omelette and it was a solid 5. The hashbrowns were beyond crisp and too much of the surface area was browned so they tasted burnt, thus a 3. 5 and 3 averages to a 4 for my husband's meal. We like to support our local restaurants and if we aren't looking for something fancy, then we would go here. If we are looking for Toasted Almond Crusted Brioche French Toast with Vegetarian Breakfast Sausage, then it is off to Simple Cafe in Lake Geneva for us. Know what I mean? read more
