Been here a couple of times over the years when in the area and hungry. Had hot dogs the first time and they were ok. Had the Chicago Dog today and it was not much. Sonic used to have a better one. I will probably see what they do with that Bradley's Smoked Sausage Dog next time...or maybe the Italian. Then again, there are hamburgers on the menu. The hot dogs they use just don't impress for a place dedicated to hot dogs. The fries are crispy and good though. You order at the counter and they call your name when your food is ready. Service is friendly and efficient. The food comes out pretty quickly. There are a few tables and some counter seating at the front windows. Business seems to be a mix of takeout and dine in. Parking out front and on the side of the building. There is a drive through as well. read more

I came into this place by happenstance one day for lunch. I've passed by it many times and I decided to try it today. It was okay. They didn't really have many many toppings for their hotdogs. I'm embarassed to say I've lived here 25 years and never eaten at Dog Et Al. Well I finally took the time to stop in this week and am really glad I did. The menu is simple - hot dogs and hamburgers. But what makes them good is the hot dogs are really good. And the burgers are hand pattied and cooked beautifully. The fries - perfectly crispy fried hand cut fries - yum! We had onion rings which were just frozen onion rings and the apple pie was the same. But the main draw is the dogs and burgers. Orders are cooked as you place them so we did have to wait a minute to get our food but it was well worth it. The restaurant is small and the parking is limited. But they've been here since 1984 so it is obviously big enough to support the capitol crowd that I certainly hope patronizes it! read more

Updating my other review with the same rating. I have been here quite a few times since my initial visit. The customer service here is 2nd to none in Tallahassee. I always have great conversation with whoever is here, but I believe his name is Kenny? He's amazing and so friendly every time we come in. Everyone I have talked with is very friendly, but he always puts me in a good mood! His customer service is a good enough reason to come in, but the hot dogs are soooooo freaking good. The chocolate shake is also my favorite in the city. Chickfila still holds the Cookies N' Cream shake title, but Dog et al is the best with chocolate. Come here hungry and leave full and happy. Once a historic stable of Tallahassee, the times have changed. I lhave loved this place since my childhood days but I don't know if its a result of new ownership but the food quality has definitely declined. This was my first time back in years and the service is not as friendly as it used to be either. I was hesitant once I saw the help wanted sign on the door which is usually a sign a place is struggling. Fries did not look good and my corndog was not appetizing either. I'm updating my review from 2 stars to just 1 star. Thought I'd eat here again since I was nearby. Ordered a super dog combo with mustard and sauerkraut with an apple pie for the side. The food came out fairly quickly. They did not have any forks so I took a knife to cut it. The bun was soggy. The hot dog wasn't hot. I ate it in just a few bites and turned my attention to the apple pie. I remember how they used to be served piping hot. Not today. It was served at room temperature. When I was throwing my trash away, I saw another apple pie in the trash so mine wasn't the only one that wasn't eaten. I'm extremely disappointed with the way this place has become such a letdown. Cute, retro place with fast service and tasty food. We went during a Facebook event so I'm not sure if this is how busy it is all the time or not. I tried their veggie dog and was pleasantly surprised. It had the same texture as a regular hot dog and didn't have a weird aftertaste that some non-meat dogs have. I personally prefer potato rolls with my burgers/ dogs because the bun holds up better, their flour buns got a little soggy with my toppings. They get points though for how many free toppings they had, all delicious. I got coleslaw and peppers on mine, my friend got a chili dog that smelled amazing. I thought the fries were delicious! I have not been to Dog Et Al in a couple of years when I met the new owners (and managers) at a charity event recently. They assured me that not only was Dog Et Al still in business, it's not going anywhere (except eventually a second location on the northside). A recent lunch visit confirmed that this place is staying true to it's roots: delicious food and great, family friendly atmosphere. We ordered one corn dog combo with fries; a side of chips, and three little dogs with toppings. The corndog and fries came straight from the fryer and the cornmeal around the corndog might as well have been cornbread. Delicious. (There are a lot of other options on the menu to feed every type of diner, large or small.) The staff behind the counter (and fryer!) were friendly and helpful. And the portion of the order that needed an extra minute to be prepared was delivered to our table promptly. I can't help it, I have to give them 5 stars. I love locally owned places with friendly service and great food. They explained the menu to me as it was my first time visiting, I liked that the majority of the toppings choices were free and they thanked me for coming. I can always appreciate places that understand people can spend their money anywhere but want you to come back to their establishment. I decided to try a hot dog, bratwurst and an apple pie based off other yelp reviews. The apple pie was the best part! What can't I say about this great little restaurant. It's a "must stop" when I'm in Tallahassee. They have a great selection of all hotdogs and sausage . Their toppings list is great and makes all of the hotdogs even better. We're talking about everything from basic chili to sautéed onions and peppers or jalapeños.They make their own potato chips or you can get fries . They offer a hot apple pie with ice cream on the side and it's awesome. The sweet tea and lemonade hit the spot and the atmosphere is great. The people was nice and all, but when I got there I ordered a Italian sausage with some fries, first off the Italian sausage was way to small to be nearly 10 dollars, and it was disgusting at that, even though I usually love Italian sausages. second they just poured some nasty, really greasy fries straight into the bag, with no kind of container or anything so the bag could of ripped. Even the apparent lemonade was mediocre, I didn't even know it that it was possible to make the lemonade really nasty. I love this Tallahassee staple! They've got great hot dogs and corndogs and I'm excited to try their new hamburgers next! They've got a drive-thru and they're quick, so it's a great place to swing by for a quick bite. They've got all the basic hotdog fixin's (onions, condiments, relish, homemade chili, sauerkraut, cheese), but the hotdogs are great on their own too! The corndogs have excellent flavor and really don't need toppings, but they're great with ketchup or mustard, if that's your preference. There are many different hotdog types to choose from (various sizes of regular hotdogs, sausages, bratwurst, and even a vegetarian option). Your best bet may be to try two small dogs - one with chili and onions, the other with just your condiment of choice, and if you've got room after two hotdogs, grab a corndog too! I haven't had their apple pie in ages, but I remember it being pretty similar to the kind you get at fast food restaurants, but you can tell they're made with love. They also cater events with their Dog Et Al truck, so even if you can't make it over to their South Monroe location, look out for the food truck. Dog et al - Sad Day. I used to say that dog et all was the best hot dog in Tallahassee. No more. Soggy mushy dog on a stale bun. Very rude staff. Practically yelled at me because I asked for mustard. Apparently they were too busy with online orders to come to the window. Never gave me my credit card back either. They won't answer the phone at all and have locked the door and closed the indoor seating so it's drive through only. The would probably be doing their few remaining customers a service if they just closed up for good. Previous owner guy that used to own/run it in the past was the best. He always wanted to make sure you got a great dog just way you wanted it. Sad to say that now you can get a better and cheaper dog at Circle K. They did not laugh when I wanted mayo on my hot dog bun. Hot dogs are such personal things! I like mine with chili, slaw and onions. Yummy! The chips can be hit or miss. Sometimes they are a bit overdone but mostly good. I like the fried apple pie. This is not a low calorie, low fat place! Don't look for salads, tofu dogs or the like.
