We have been coming to Dr. Foley for many years. We had a Chihuahua mix, named Mildred who was diabetic, had bouts with pancreatitis and was blind. We had been to a few vets before finding Dr. Foley. I didn't agree on the advice I was given about treating Mildred's diabetes. Dr. Foley was extremely caring with Mildred and her issues. We eventually put her to sleep, after a very long life. The vet tech who had a soft spot for Mildred was even crying when we did it. Fast forward to 2018 when our elderly Puggle, Daisy was put to sleep. She also had received top notch care at South Bellmore, she was a part of the family for 15 years. Dr. Foley has always been very kind and patient. He always tells it like it is. We adopted our dog from Town Of Hempstead Animal Shelter last month. This practice was one on a list that work with the shelter in providing a no cost post adoption checkup. It seemed like a win win, for both me and the business. As I'm sure they hope that adopters will choose to continue to bring their pets here. Our first visit in January, I got the time of the appointment wrong. I showed up late! The woman at the desk, I believe her name was Ashley was vey kind to me as I apologized profusely. She quickly made me a new appointment. Next time we saw Dr. Franko and ended up getting a shot for allergies. The doctor was pleasant and answered all my questions. I must admit I was surprised when the Vet Tech took my furbaby into the back to administer the procedure. I would have preferred that I was present in the same room. Yesterday about six weeks later, we're here for another allergy shot and medicated shampoo. The tech who came out was very stoic and just called my dog's name, never greeted me and promptly took him to "the back". I was surprised by the total amount of the bill. When I inquired about it, the young lady said the allergy shots went up $20 "about two weeks ago". She also mentioned a credit/debit card fee...only when I inquired. No one ever mentioned this at the 1st visit. All of us pet owners know that caring for our babies needs can be pricey. And personally, I do what I must to keep my furbaby healthy. However, I would prefer to be made aware in advance as to how much I will be spending. This goes a long way in helping me make informed decisions about his care. Especially if the prices were raised without any kind of notification. Prices aside, I left there last night confused. The people there didn't seem to enjoy their work. No greeting us, no smiles. Great place to bring your four legged family members! We originally came when we got two new maltipoo puppies. Called so many vets in the area. I explained that the warranty would be void unless they were seen that day. They were the only ones that understood and were kind. We brought our Maltese in for a routine check (shot and nail clipping only) and Dr, Franco decided to pull a big canine tooth without our permission! My dog almost bled out and the vet group didn't even prescribe my dog pain pills or antibiotics. We had to bring our dog to the ER because she was in so much pain she couldn't eat and her right eye closed bc it was all swollen in the sinus above the pulled tooth. The owner left a nasty message on my VM bc we were unhappy with what happened but then called to say Dr. Franco should have never pulled our dogs tooth without permission and she has been notified. A $150 bill became a $5000 expense and they didn't even offer to pay a dime for a trauma they caused! Every person and professional we spoke to was horrified. read more

I can't thank SBV enough. My baby has been there since she was a puppy. She is now thirteen and has a whole host of issues. She is hanging in there, but without the care we have received at South Bellmore Veterinary Group, there is no doubt that things would be different. From there referral to an Oncologist, to their repeated care of her severe arthritis, SBVG has been their for us and Trixie. We are there weekly and it has allowed our girl to maintain a good quality of life. She might have trouble walking, but she enjoys her food, cookies, and of course cuddling and massages. Dr R Franko took advantage of my daughter and granddaughter as new pet owners. During there visit she disclosed the cost of what 2 tests and antibiotics would be for there 4 week old puppy and then didn't disclosed what an X-Ray would cost which just so happened to be about double the cost of what the other tests would be. Come to find out through an honest veterinarian that the puppy only had a kennel cough. She was asked about the bill on the phone and tryed to justify it by comparing it to a doctors visit by stating ' " do you ask your regular doctor the cost"? Huh??? We have been taking our dogs here for years and we have a lot of dogs. Recently we brought Daisy in to get her Rabies vaccine. She seemed totally fine. They noticed she lost some weight and asked to do bloodwork. Next day got a call to bring her right in. Turns out she has a liver mass. Went to specialist and m it is a cancerous mass. Luckily we caught it early and it can be surgically removed. If they hadn't been alarmed by the weight loss, this would have gone undetected. Dr Foley totally ignores what the owner has to say. He rushes through what he wants to say, even not speaking clearly just to rush through his spiel. After my dog's recent serious surgery, he did not call me to give the update- he had a secretary do that; she was sweet & kind, but that is not appropriate. And, they charge a substantial "credit card processing fee" but do not accept checks, nor would they waive the fee even though they did not say anything about that. My dogs mouth was bleeding for no reason when we brought him in and unfortunately saw one of the female vets that is afraid of big dogs. She said it was nothing . By Friday my dog was unable to walk and brought to an emergency vet. He was diagnosed with Lymphoma . She missed the baseball size swollen lymph node in his neck. After months of treatment our 3 year old dog passed away. i know that the diagnosis would have been the same, however we would have been to a specialist sooner. i have not been back since. This place is money hungry and does NOT give any information about anything and just expects you to know and then when you come back they tell you thats not the right way and try to charge again to do the exact same thing!! They misdiagnosed my cat so bad that they said the only way to truly know his illness was to do an autopsy on him when he had a simple ear infection. The vets are so far from compassionate and told my boyfriend that his cat was gonna die and to do the best we can because he was too difficult with taking meds and handling and that we should come to terms that we gave him a good life. Hes a one year old cat with a UTI!!!!! Horrible staff, horrible treatment, overall a horrible place. How anybody goes to this place still is beyond me. Avoid this vet at all costs. Our dog recently had a medical emergency for which we were informed she needed round-the-clock treatment and would need to stay there overnight. The following day when we called to check on her, we learned that in fact she had not been treated overnight (rather, we simply paid for her to be boarded there) and the severity of her condition worsened. Had we been informed that they could not care for her condition at the level needed, we would have transferred her to a 24 hour specialty facility (where she remains today, 3 days later). This office was impossible to get in touch with during the short time she was there and it was even more difficult to get honest, up-to-date information. The first 24 hours of her treatment were crucial and vet records from this clinic indicate that she was to receive treatment for those first 24 hours. Our dog will have lifelong medical issues which were clearly exacerbated by the failure on the part of this practice to uphold the basic standard of care. Upon attempting to address this with the practice owner, Dr. Foley, we were met with someone who was rude, condescending and outright disrespectful. He blamed us for not having clarified if she would be treated over night (why would we clarify when they gave us the impression that she would?) and demanded that if we want his clinic staffed overnight we were welcome to find him a competent and willing employee to work overnight, which he indicated is impossible. This is irrelevant, if they could not provide our pet with the care she needed, they should have referred us elsewhere. AVOID AVOID AVOID read more

I bring my dog in there who has severe separation anxiety and because of COVID they tell me I can go into a large room with him but then they will take him back without me. I warned them he would not let anyone touch him without me even with an oral sedative, but they wouldn't compromise with me and a tech DRAGGED my dog out of the room shaking and then five minutes later I hear his paws scraping the floor being dragged back to me and they tell me to gather everything and go to the car with my dog and the doctor will talk to me. So I go to my car like I am told, waited 10 minutes (meanwhile they are calling my husband telling him I left without paying) and I get a phone call saying they are waiting for me and the bill is ready. I said I am in the car waiting like they told me. She then proceeded to tell me that she meant to put my dog in my car ALONE and come back in to pay. I was FURIOUS!!! I just explained to you my dog has severe separation anxiety and you think it's a good idea to leave my dog in my car? Then tells me the doctor couldn't even do when we came for because he wouldn't cooperate. But I am of course expected to pay full price for a visit... this place needs to re-think their customer service and how they treat animals. Not all animals had a good life, some were adopted from abusive families and NO ANIMAL deserves to be treated how they treated my dog. I will NEVER recommend this vet even for an emergency visit, you are better off with ANYONE else. Dogs are family, and should be treated like such. read more

That is how the doctors used to be. But as of late the doctors are impatient, don't listen to you as they have in the past, don't seem to care as they have in the past and seem as if they would rather be elsewhere. A few years ago my 2 dogs were patients of Dr. Foley. I always felt comfortable bringing them in and always felt they were diagnosed and treated well for a well visit and a sick visit. My opinion changed big time when Dr. Foley put our Bearded Collie to sleep. Our dogs quality of life shifted and we knew it was time. I never had anything to compare this process to, but was pretty upset at the way it was done. Dr. Foley placed our dog on the table and spoke with us about what was to come. He injected Disney (who weighed about 60 pounds) while we were petting him (he was standing, as he was nervous and wouldn't sit). The medication worked SO incredibly fast, that our dog just 'dropped' literally, dropped on the table. A few seconds later another injection and Dr. Foley pronounced him gone. To this day, I feel terrible at how an ending.....a sad moment became a horrible memory ..... by the way he was put to sleep. We changed vets, as several of the Drs. at S. Bellmore Vet group couldn't seem to diagnosis my other dog later on. We learned immediately after changing vets she had pancreatitis and eventually Cushings and Diabetes. She lived an additional 4 years under their care. I thought I knew what to expect when her quality of life shifted and the time had come to put her to sleep. I had a pit in my stomach making the call and of what was going to go on.... ...... BUT we were unprepared and totally blown away by the warmth, patience, love and compassion that our current vet AND his staff showed us. The staff had a small blanket on the floor, and injected our dog to relax her. They said it would take about 10-15minutes to relax her. Two vet techs came in to check on us and talk to our girl. They left us with her; coming in every few minutes. She was nervous, but soon seemed to relax, even wagging her tail. She eventually laid down with us on the blanket they provided. She was just so calm. The assistant called the Dr. back in and he then injected her with the dose of medication that helped her to finally RIP. In my opinion ALL vets AND staff should be trained to euthanize an animal THIS way. While we all left that room that day sad, we were so at peace with the process. read more

My pit tends to get excited and run around and smell and try to lick every thing and everyone. He is greeted so warmly here, not judged. Great veterinary office. We tried a few vets in the South Merrick/South Bellmore area and are sticking with them. The other vets charge for every detail and follow up visit. While they are entitled to be paid for their services, I dont worry when I bring Charlie in. Dr. Foley (who Charlie usually sees), is very calming and re-assuring. The ladies at the front desk are great. they always make an appointment available and help with the forms for our pet insurance. We highly recommend this office. read more

Been coming here for ages; Dr. Foley is the son (as it happens) of a well-loved English teacher at my HS, umpteen years ago. Most recently our Pomeranian Nemo became frighteningly lethargic and went off his feed. He spiked a high temp and his white count fell way off. Dr. Carey, god bless her, got hold of the situation in a day's time if not less, and Nemo bounced right... his temp fell, the white count went back up, and he returned to his usual lively and happy self. We had an emergency with one of our dogs on a Sunday,they were eager to help us and they did. This was a incident that required a trip back every three days for 3 weeks. The doctor was great, staff was okay and the place was very clean. After this we decided to use them for both dogs and our cat which was a huge mistake! The vet we used never called us back after leaving three messages for her regarding our cats medication. This vet practice is amazing! I recently purchased a new puppy and took her here for her first visit. The staff is so friendly, professional and knowledgeable. My pup tested positive for worms. While I was in a panic, they were so calm, caring and understanding. They educated me and showed genuine compassion for my us. I had an emergency with my 9 month old yorkie on Saturday 3/31 at approx 1pm. My vet's office Companions had already closed but I saw that South Bellmore was near by and open until 4pm. My 4lb pup had eaten a grape which are toxic to dogs. I called animal poison control and was told to take him into a vet to have them induce vomiting. I called and the young lady I believe her name was Dawn put me on hold. She came back to the line to tell me that they couldn't fit my pup in but rather take him to LIVS in Plainview. THEY COULDN'T FIT IN AN EMERGENCY. Well thankfully East Bay down the road was able to help. A quick shot and the grape was out in no time. If this is how you extend yourselves in emergency situations, I would wonder how other medical issues are handled. read more
