I called for at least 4 weeks to finally get someone to answer after leaving multiple messages - which their message promises will be returned. I had 3 requests - quotes for heat pumps, quote to replace a water heater and service for 2 furnaces. Finally get it all scheduled. The people showed up to give me quotes. The MOST expensive ones I've gotten from anywhere. Over the top expensive. Then for the furnace cleanings - NO SHOW, NO CALL. So I called them and got their after hours answering service on a Friday late afternoon. Someone actually did answer. Then someone from the office called to apologize and promised they would call me on Monday morning... that was 6 weeks ago. I called again and again and had to leave messages that haven't been returned. So I give up on this company. They serviced my furnaces last year after multiple rescheduling. I really like the tech they sent. But otherwise, this is beyond ridiculous. read more

I am upset that when a technician came to shut water off due to a broken pipe, he left one of the valves closed when he left. Consequently I lost heat and didn't know why at the time. Another technician was brought in and he found the problem. I was charged for this second visit as well as for getting rid of air in one of the lines that was caused by the eralier technician. read more

I was blind sided. Service was excellent, but with the highest service agreement available I thought I had better coverage. Servicer representative did a wonderful job of restoring my heat in less in about one half an hour, but was surprised with the $325.00 dollar service charge. Probably my fault for not reading the agreement and making assumptions, but beware. They came to install a water heat pump. Brand new system. The condensation line they installed leaked on my wood flooring and wall. Then two years later I have no hot water. I called to have a toilet installed and to upgrade the shutoff valve. They came to my home and gave me an estimate of $600-$2000. Who in their right mind would pay this much to install a basic toilet. According to them this is the industry standard. They gave us one price for the consult and then charged way more day of. after removing the furnace we then had a leak in the roof and we called several times and no one ever got back to us and came to fix it. Dog House was great in terms of communication and service. But I don't like how we're charged based on "specific service" rather than time spent. We needed a valve on our toilet connection replaced. They came out as scheduled, service tech was polite and professional, and he gave us a quote of around $450 for the job. We agreed and went ahead because we didn't know any better. The total repair was done in under 30 minutes, with parts that can be bought at any hardware store for under $20. If they had charged for parts and an hourly labor rate it should have been less than half what we paid. Feels like a rip off. They also recommended another repair and the bid for that job was over $3k for work that would take less than a full day with parts under $50. So it appears they're charging about $400/hr but disguising it as a "per project" fee. It's a bummer because we like everything else about the company. read more

After having 3 other companies either not show up or not want to do the work I need done, I was able to schedule an appointed with this company. The day of, they called and cancelled an appointment I had set up a month ago an hour before they were supposed to show up. The woman on the phone kept trying to reschedule with me, even though I was adamant about not wanting to reschedule. She kept saying we now have you scheduled for next Monday to which I said I do not want to reschedule my appointment. She kept them asking if I could pull my calendar out and look at my dates, clearly not listening to a word I was saying that I did not want to reschedule. I am not giving this review without good reason. I'm sitting here after receiving notice for the 4th cancellation - Yes, the 4th... 4 cancellations over - at LEAST 6 months. The first time I was completely understanding. Post COVID issue are still lingering and we have to have patience with each other and our small businesses. I have no problem looking at the situation this way. Small businesses are essential, especially in the service industry. So I didn't even think twice about just going with the flow and rescheduling. However, we were asking for a deep cleaning of our Heat Pumps (something that was supposed to be done when the person visited the first time, fixed our oil furnace and looked at our water tank - we were supposed to have our heat pump looked at on that day... but this didn't happen. What DID happen on this day, though, was we were sold a membership plan to their services, and then another heat pump servicing was scheduled. So I am not counting the first 'cancellation' among the 4 I'm complaining about. If I added that one, I believe it would be 5 cancellations. But they did show up, they did do work on our furnace, so I'm not counting it among the cancellations when I leave this review) due to allergies and the running of the pumps was making us sick. This was the only reason we called to have these heat pumps looked at. We found out there was mold inside the pumps and the work we were requesting was a matter of health concerns. It was pretty bad. So this began our adventure of trying to get our heat pumps serviced by "Dog House". We had 3 No-Shows, 1 was canceled 2 hours into our 4 hours waiting-window. Sitting at home for this block of time they say they'll show up and we get a phone call they aren't coming. 1 was canceled because they didn't even have us on the schedule. We laughed hard over this (and not in a funny-ha-ha way, either) because we couldn't fathom how a company stays in business behaving like this. The ONLY reason we called to make the appointment was because of allergies in our house due to MOLD and the odor from it permeating our house. We happened to add on a furnace visit, too, but the furnace conversation was significantly shorter than the time we spent speaking of the need to get these heat pumps serviced - in lieu of the previously canceled appointments. Right? The last appointment was canceled - again 2 hours into our 4 hour waiting time (work day spent at home waiting for heat pump techs that weren't going to show up). But my FAVORITE cancellation HAD to be the one where the heat pump tech showed up and, in a "oh darn... shoot... " sort of manner he announced he didn't have the tools to do the deep clean because no one told him that's what we needed. Seriously. I wish I was joking. THE ONLY REASON we needed these pumps serviced was so they could be deep cleaned. He showed up and was completely shocked to learn this is why he was here. We waited hours for him to get here and he was gone within 15 minutes. Do yourself a favor and seek other options - at least for the heat pump service. I will say the furnace guy was on point. Great job. I don't have any ill feelings towards anyone nor the company itself. I don't want harm to be brought to the business, but people need to know what they're getting into when contracting and paying a membership fee, at the very least. OH! My OTHER favorite! I almost forgot to mention! This one made us stare at each other with sheer incredulity and then we burst out into laughter at the ridiculousness of the customer service person... they canceled on us THREE TIMES... THREE times we took, a minimum, of half a day's work to be available. Right? Over 5+ MONTHS. This 3rd time we lost our patience with them and told them it would be nice if they took some level of responsibility that - if inconvenience needed to be had, they own that part of the scheduling this time because we owned it on their terms 3 previous times already. You're going to love this ... their response? "Can't you be more flexible with your availability?" It's been EASILY 5 or 6 months we had waited to that point (even longer now that this 4th appt was canceled), right? We're limited to certain days of the week, but we didn't care how far out the wait was. We would make ourselves available for the date THEY CHOSE. When those dates arrived they didn't call us first thing in the morning to tell us they don't have a tech that day until we had sat around for 2 hours. 2 of those 4 cancellations they made it sound like their tech was out that day. They didn't have the personnel to do the job. But instead of telling us when we had time to make something of our day(s) they waited until halfway through our waiting window (we're eager, anxious, excited they're coming finally, because if they weren't, the company surely wouldn't leave us hanging knowing that fact, right? WRONG) before letting us know "yeah, they're not coming today, sorry..." read more

Furnace malfunction...water break in my boiler and water on electrical box and malfunction in the system which cracked the boiler. I was told that the furnace needed as of the original service call and requested a estimate for a replacement...this all started in August, 2023. No response from them and got concerned that I didn't get any response to my phone calls and several visits to there office and spoke to those on their office in Brunswick. Was told each time that I was in the system and they would be in touch. This ran into months and afraid I would not have heat when needed. As of November I still haven't heard from them.No answers as to even an estimate...no calls. No response, no. Heat etc. I have been with no heat and finally decided to contact another source, and got quick service. It is being installed this week, they also install dicated that the boiler cracked due to high heat that was caused by a malfunction in the electrical unit. I paid over , 600$ for a service call. A thermostat installed. Which was replaced and totally un necessary. A service plan that that wasn't needed because They sold, at during to there neglect in their service. But they came to give us an estimate on replacing said furnace and they never actually provided an estimate. They came at the end of October. I followed up with an emailed floorplan, never heard back. I emailed the office person, never heard back. I called and left a message, never heard back. I finally called and spoke to the general manager right before Thanksgiving. He said he would talk to the owner and get back to me. Guess what? I never heard back. read more

The first visit, as others have mentioned, seems to go really well. We even signed up for their yearly service contract. However, after that it was all downhill. The service contract for a year would cover our furnace cleaning, that's why we got it, plus the perks of the service. But I soon realized that if there aren't enough people to deliver the services the service agreement means very little and so do the perks. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I do not consider service canceling day-of and giving a reschedule date of 3 weeks later.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I do not consider service getting an estimate for a plumbing job almost a month later just to find out they can't actually do it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I do not consider service mostly getting the answering machine and when you do reach someone they can't really help you.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I have a hunch this place is very understaffed or people are calling in a lot. But the fact of the matter is, something isn't working here, I'm sorry to have to say it. They did refund me for the service contract without any hassle and I was grateful for that. read more

Called in the early morning for a boiler that wasn't kicking on and had not hot water. Extremely friendly operator called an extremely friendly and competent tech who showed up 15 minutes later, diagnosed and explained the problem, fixed the problem and was back on the road in 20 minutes. They've also been servicing our system and have done some propane installation work for us in the past. Always a good experience! read more

The only reason I'm giving a one "star" review is because you can't leave a 0 "star" review. Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with a trade company! I contacted Dog House due to not having hot water or decent water pressure in my home. I was told that the earliest they could come out was in 2 weeks, so that appointment was scheduled. Day before they were scheduled to come out, office staff called to cancel and "had to reschedule because of an emergency." Ok. Emergency. I understand that, but by this time, I was feeling an urgency of my own with no hot water! Rescheduled to the following day (another day off of work) and technician came as promised. I was told by the office staff that billing is based on $99.- for the first hour and that an estimate for the time and work that day would be provided if over one hour. Technician checked my water pressure, which was quite good at the water main, looked around my basement at furnace and piping and faucet fixtures in bathroom and kitchen. I have "hard" water and calcium was found in the filter on my kitchen faucet. Technician diagnosed the problem as having buildup in my furnace coil (no hot water tank) which was causing the lack of hot water and pressure and that all of my piping for the entire house needed to be replaced along with the shower and faucets in both my bathroom and kitchen. He was in my home for 2 hours, did no actual plumbing work as he told me that he was sent to give me an estimate and that he had "5 other jobs that day" and that he was the only plumber for the company. He couldn't possibly fix my plumbing issues that day and charged me $725.- with no resolution in sight for my lack of hot water and pressure. He also quoted me an estimate for all of the work that he claimed would be needed; $13000.- and that, once Dog House received a third of the payment as a deposit, I would be put on the schedule "as soon as possible." He added, "I did write that this was an urgent request." There was no urgency in the technician's actions that day. I contacted another plumbing company that day and a technician came to my home, diagnosed the problem (which did NOT include replacing all of my plumbing) and completed the work within 24 hours. The estimate was FREE and the total bill was a fraction of the cost that was quoted to me from Dog House. I am deeply dissatisfied with this company and think that they gouge their customers with exorbitant costs that are unnecessary! I would NEVER recommend them to anyone I know and would discourage anyone from contracting their services. read more

Tried to take advantage of an elderly couple. My elderly parents boiler started leaking last week and they called Dog House Energy to see if they could get an emergency repair. The technician who responded last Friday told my parents that their boiler manifold was cracked and that it was caused by high pressure in the incoming water supply. They also told them that the manifold part was very difficult to find and had to order one from out of state (arriving in Maine on Saturday). Dog House provided my folks a $2,000+ quote to replace the manifold and to add a pressure reducer. Dog house said the repair would take 6 hours to complete. Today, my folks contacted Dog House to find out when they were arriving to perform the repair and the response was that they were scheduling it for tomorow and that the part was still "on the truck". When pressed for more information, the Dog House representative ultimately told my parents that they did not want their business and that they would not service them any longer. A neighbor of my folks then recommended a competitor, who they called this morning after the discussion with Dog House. The new technician was confused about Dog House's position and said that the part was quite common and, in fact, had two in his service van. The new technician went to their house an hour after speaking with them and replaced the bad part in an hour and a half...not six hours. Additionally, he charged them $600 in total which included labor, the parts, and a service cleaning. Dog House Energy is simply not an ethical company. read more

I made an appointment for a "propane consult" to make sure that my new boiler was setup for peak efficiency to heat our small new home. Robert and Joe arrived and were polite, friendly and helpful. We discussed two possible changes to the system: 1) The expansion tank is slightly undersized, and could benefit from the next larger size, and 2) we were considering adding a wireless "smart" thermostat to more evenly heat the downstairs. They went to the van to prepare a quote, and returned to say that the office had authorized Joe to sell me a new expansion tank for near cost ("don't tell your neighbors"), and it could be installed for $499.00. In addition, they could install the new "smart" thermostat for $751.00 if I wanted to make a down payment. I am 71 years old, but unlike some other older folks, I am familiar with most aspects of a heating system, so I had many concerns and said that I would look into it. He said that a written quote would be emailed, and they left. I went online and found the identical expansion tank, and had it shipped here for $58.75. I also found the top rated Nest "smart" thermostat with an additional room sensor that will arrive Friday for $282.74. The thermostat is sold as a simple DIY project, and I expect that the expansion tank installation will also be a fairly straight project, but I will seek help if needed. I was hoping to have a new service company, but I will be looking further. read more

The guy that came for the estimate was so nice and promised to do things that were conveniently forgotten in the written contract, my mistake was to trust them and not to make sure that all that was spoken was written. Of course, when I ask for the work that was not done they pointed out "Is not in the contract" In addition, the work was poorly done, it didn't pass inspection from Maine efficiency! WOW-I can't believe that on here they are rated as a 1 star-I have had them several times both because of emergency repairs/ Weekends , nights and holidays-also for regular cleaning and maintenance or my original 1978 furnace. This company is above a 5 star rating in my book-locally owned, 2 towns away yet local here I Maine. John the Owner has done the work himself, always answer's his cell phone even while on the work site, his staff both office and technicians are the best I have ever had the pleasure to work with extremely professional and skilled. They are quick, they let you watch and answer questions and explain the problem and repairs with you on site !- Their prices are very reasonable indeed. They do not drag out the time of repair to pad the bill-they are extremely honest and get the job done asap-truly an AMERICAN BUSINESS-I will be buying a complete new heating system through them-no even going to bother shopping for a better price or product-I trust them that much-To john the owner-Thank You for a Top quality company !!
