We've taken our dog Charlie to Dog Ranch for weekly play sessions for 5+ years. He loves the dogs and the salt water pools there. This past weekend Charlie spent three nights there for the first time. It was so nice to be able to check in on him with their webcam everyday. If I could give this place six stars I would! We started taking our two dogs Lucy and Ethel here a few months ago and this place has exceeded all of our expectations. Both of our girls are rescues with abuse histories so they are very timid and standoffish with people they do not know. We had tried another daycare and they hated it. From day one at Dog Ranch, they instantly felt right at home. The environment, the vibe, the staff, the space: everything just instantly made them feel comfortable. By the second day they were super excited to go and at this point it's their favorite thing to do and they get so excited to see their favorite staff. I will spy on them regularly from work via the webcams and they are always romping around with other dogs or getting pets from staff. They come home exhausted every day and pass out until the next morning. When we went to France for a few weeks they took excellent care of the girls in boarding and worked with the vet next door to provide care for Lucy who had inhaled part of a stick a few days before we left and developed aspiration pneumonia. Between the staff, the space, the boarding, the great price and the pool, it's the best doggy daycare experience in the area by far! read more

I have a 35lb Australian Shepherd and a 11lb Yorkie mix. My two dogs both contracted GIARDIA from the Dog Ranch Bed and Biscuit after being boarded for two weeks July-August 2019. My small one also suffered an infection on his neck that could have been prevented if Dog Ranch had observed his condition and treated his wound immediately rather than not say anything to me about it (they claimed they had not noticed any wounds, but I had paid extra money for him to be brushed every night while there - the infected wound is shown in the photo and clearly something that would have easily been noticed if someone was actually brushing him at night). Here are the details: I picked my two dogs up here on August 1 after they had spent two weeks being boarded. I waited to write this review because 1) I wanted to make sure I wasn't making any hasty assumptions and had all the medical documents to back what I was saying, and 2) I have been preoccupied for the last two weeks running in and out of vet offices and emergency vet rooms for both of them which has resulted in thousands of dollars in vet bills. My dogs stayed here for two weeks while I was across the country. I dropped my dogs off both happy and healthy, which my vet can attest to since I had taken them both in for updates on vaccinations the week before. For spending $2000+ to board my dogs, you would imagine that the place must be top notch clean and sanitary, and that your fur babies are being watched over properly and safely.. which apparently is not the case. I have photos and the conclusion on all treating veterinarians who treated my yorkie's injury and illnesses as well as my aussie's illness to attest to unsafe and unsanitary conditions that have caused my dogs to suffer these past two weeks. Friday August 2: I picked my dogs up Friday afternoon. My Yorkie would not touch his food that night and seemed lethargic, which I mistakingly brushed off as him being tired from two weeks of play. I noticed a large bald spot on his back the size of two quarters, as well as a quarter sized scab with yellow crusted pus on the side of his neck. When I called dog ranch, Vicky answered and said that our dog had arrived that way ... which is impossible because that was two weeks ago and the scab and pus looked fresh. Again, I brushed this off as me not noticing that he may have had a bald spot. Saturday August 3: The next day he was still not eating. He also threw up yellow foam even though he still had not eaten. Took him to the vet and they gave him ointment for the infection and he tested negative for fleas/mites/etc. They had no idea what caused the scabbing and pus but said it had to be at least SEVERAL days old and may have been from someone tightening his collar while he was playing or from another dog (mind you, we had just picked him up less than 24 hours ago and Vicky had stated he arrived that way two weeks ago. Later that night, my dog began uncontrollably vomiting and having yellow diarrhea shoot out of his rear like a hose. This lasted several hours and I rushed him to a vet in the morning who is thank god open on Sundays. Sunday August 4: He weighed in at 2 1/2 pounds less than his usual weight and was immediately hooked to IV fluids and tested for GIARDIA which they said is common for places that are unsanitary The vet said he needed to be transported to an emergency clinic where he would need to stay overnight and be watched. At the emergency clinic, X-rays taken also showed PHYSICAL TRAUMA to his liver. Monday August 5: We picked our Yorkie up who was re-hydrated and treated for his infections Tuesday August 6: Finally heard back from dog ranch via email from stephanie. Lab results came back indicating our Yorkie had been exposed to Giardia We began giving him the needed medications to treat Giardia, but unfortunately our Australian Shepherd also began to show symptoms and on Thursday her lab results showed she had also been exposed to Giardia. As i just mentioned, i heard back from stephanie via email August 6, where she sympathized with my frustration and said that they had had energy while there then sent photos of my dogs "playing", which mostly consisted of them standing around. I do not want any money back, I am just grateful that both my dogs are alive and on the mend. My only objective in writing this review is for others to be more aware of checking into places before just leaving their fur babies- read reviews, ask how they maintain sanitary conditions and have them show you in person. read more

This place is literally the best dog daycare. We have a gentle giant, an 80lb Pit Bull. We originally took him to a few other closer daycares, include Irvine Doggy Daycare - and realized that he often got put in "time out" in an enclosed space, seemingly because the young kids who work there didn't feel like dealing with his size. He would come home with a ton of pent-up energy and frustration. What's the point? Then, we found Dog Ranch. First of all, it's mostly OUTSIDE. That was a selling point in-and-of itself. After one visit, we knew this was the place for him. The people who work there are knowledgeable, patient, caring, and seem to genuinely love dogs (which is sadly more than I can say for a lot of the other daycares we tried) shoutout to: Vicki, Ashley, Eric, Jose! On top of the excellent care they provide, this has also been a one-stop-shop for us, they take our pup to the vet down Canyon Road - Laguna Beach Vet (another excellent business) and complete all of his medical care for us, and at a reasonable price! Here's what happened to us today after 7+ years of bringing our dog to this establishment. We were out of town picking up a new puppy and had our 8 year old dog boarding for three nights. As the web site shows and the sign on the front of the Dog Ranch shows, hours are 7 am for current clients. This does not indicate whether it's drop off or pick up. Since we've been clients, we either have a paid package we charge or they charge us with our card on file. Today, my husband went to pick up our dog at 7 am as we also work and have meetings to attend to. A guy was in the process of leashing our dog when a woman tending to the dogs indicated that pick up was not until 8 am when the manager was on site. This was a first for us as we usually have our dog groomed and are told pick up is at 9 so they have time to groom him. Can you imagine seeing your dog and having someone tell you to leave and come back in an hour or simply wait? There is no professionalism or customer service savvy provided. First, the policy is in question as the staff say something different than the website and signage. Second, in the case where there is a discrepancy, there is always an opportunity to insert understanding and a mediating approach. "We understand and apologize. Let me call the manager and see what we can do today". None of that took place. Instead, the staff member turned her back to my husband and walked away. My husband asked her to call a manager and she said "no". So, my husband became super frustrated in the heat of the moment. I get it. We too have felt things change over the years with past staff leaving likely due to the challenging management style of the owner, Stephanie. Policies are pushed on clients with inconsistent communications. Event the vet next door to them has changed their approach to providing services and flu shots to the Dog Ranch as one staff member told me. We bid you farewell and good luck. read more

I was a new customer for less than 60 days here and our dog came home with cuts two days in a row. (Please see pic) and the staff openly admitted to me that they did not see what happened. Well why the hell not!!!! It's what you are taking my money to do!! Dear Owner of business, please find a staff that cares about doing a good job and is willing to make our loved ones stay safe. There is no possible way I could ever feel safe to bring my puppy here ever again. I went to pick my boy up at 7:10am before early meetings starting at 8am. Look at signs on the door from another post. This was normal for long term clients. They would NOT release my boy to me even though I could see him 20 yards away (Btw - We have a credit card on file). For some reason they decided to institute new policy that was not on the website or verbally explained. They said I had to come back at 8am when a manager gets in. I explained that I could not due to meetings and then she ignored my requests to get my dog. I asked the staff member to call the manager and she walked away. I was about to call the local authorities. Unbelievable. Needless to say, my wife now has to go back and get our loved one. Furious is an understatement. When we first began using this facility, they had a completely different staff and crew that have all moved on for reasons I can only imagine. It's time for us to move on as well. Outside of hello and goodbye, I've had all of 5 words with Stephanie as she churned through staff over the years. Lately, our dog had not wanted to be dropped off and we were not sure why. Clearly there was something going wrong that we were not seeing. Later I found that new staff had begun yelling at the animals. This clarified why our boy no longer wanted to be there. This place has been horribly managed and rude for years and this event had confirmed that it's time to move on. Looking at the other reviews I should've made this call a while ago. read more

Only the best for my pup. It's ludicrous how much money I spend on my dog, but in our family he's like a second child so he gets high quality food, cool toys, great medical care, and of course carefully screened accomodations whenever he's away from home (while his "people" are away on vacation). This place is part doggie daycare with an outdoor Astroturf-covered, fully fenced area with a water play area. At night when it's time to rest, the dogs go inside into their individual crates. I like this setup (versus kennels or Petsmart's pet hotel) because the play area is large and it gives me the impression that my doggie has a chance to run around all day and tire himself out so he sleeps soundly at night even though he's in a different environment. My only qualms about this place are its out-of-the-way location since I'm coming from Irvine, and the nail biting left turn into the facility from Laguna Canyon Road (the 133) as you narrowly dodge traffic zooming along in the opposite direction. read more

We left our dog Brownie ( a dachshund) on December 5th-Wednesday at Dog Ranch, and we were planning on picking him up on Monday. (As we were traveling out of town). But on "Saturday" December 8th, we got a call from Dog Ranch saying that on "FRIDAY" ( 24 hours before) our dog slipped on the corner of the pool and scratched his neck and had to go to the hospital for a small surgery!!!. We were shocked, worried, so I did ask why it took 24 hours for them to contact me??? First they said that they "did not have my contact", them, "my contact was wrong and they could not reach on my cell phone", them, "the programs with the clients info had a transposed phone number"!! THEY DO HAVE MY CONTACT, Brownie is not a new client and they do have my email as well. Why not texting?Sending an email? OR confirming my information with the hospital ( as they have all my info too). So, I called the hospital, and they told me that Brownie had a surgery and was back at Dog Ranch on Friday......Calling back Dog Ranch, Eric told me that he was fine with the other dogs!! What?!!! He just had a surgery!! He supposed to be separate from the other dogs. In the meantime we were trying to reschedule our flight to get back as earlier as possible. But Dog Ranch do not open on Sundays ( not even on an emergency case, like this one). Then, we started calling to get someone we trust to be able to get Brownie on time on Saturday, and keep him in a "safe" and "appropriate" place/home, as he had an surgery! Until we get back. Finally we managed to change our flight and got back earlier, but took 4 DAYS to Stephanie , the owner, to contact us! And then we I went to the hospital to get my dog Medical Records it shows: "BITE WOUND". ( see pictures). We were devastated ! I saw the video that Dog Ranch sent to me showing he slipped on a deck near the pool. BUT the hospital said that he had a "V" cut on his neck!!Not a simple scratched. With all these dogs running around, I know that accidents could happen, BUT NOT CALLING US right the way! Or keep the dog separate , with someone taking a special care until we are back? We do know when a place is good or bad when things happens and we see how they handle the situation. Stephanie (the owner) is one of the nicest and more knowledgable professionals in the dog care business. Stephanie and her staff work tirelessly to ensure all dogs are safe and well taken care of. Our dog, Chauncey who was a Boxer, loved his visits to the Dog Ranch. Chauncey visited 3 days a week on average while we were at work. For Christmas the Dog Ranch sent Chauncey home with a paw-made Christmas ornament for our tree. It was Chauncey's paw, we hang it on the tree every year! We love Stephanie & the Dog Ranch! The BEST place to board your furry family or take for a day! Strict health and socialization rules assure safety. We took our three kids, Rowdy, Molly and Gidget, there for years and were able to go on vacation with confidence and piece of mind. As our dogs grew older we relied on their services less and less. Rowdy and Molly have since crossed the Bridge and our youngest Gidget is now 13 and is happy to stay home. My pooch WAS a long-time attendee here. I took a tour years ago and bought into the sales-pitch of where the dogs were crated at night. The staff will walk you to the 'other' ranch house across from the play-yard which has cozy couches and 8 crates with nice bedding. They tell you this is where your dog will sleep each night. My interest was peaked when I learned they can house up to 40 dogs onsite! Where do all these dogs sleep if there are only 8 crates in a small ranchhouse? When I requested to see the area where the dogs were crated at night, I was told by 3 people (owner included) that I could not enter that area because dogs get anxious if people walk back there. No facility should deny a customer access to where your dog is being housed at night. Note: all dogs are put in a collapsible type create all night, so if you don't feel comfortable with them being crated for 12 hours, don't board here. The place is pricey ($55.00 for overnight which includes outdoor playtime). Their racket is that in order to have your dog continue his 'overnight status' you must bring them in once each month for a mandatory visit at $35.00 a pop so they stay 'socialized'. That's a lot of money to spend yearly just so your dog retains the right to board at a facility where they won't show you the real sleeping area. Weird. read more

At first you have a good impression of this place because is well located, nicely done and clean. But once an emergency happens with your dog, at a place that you at least hope to be a "safe dog environment", it really changes the picture. During a family trip, our dog suffered a serious "attack". "Attack" because still not clear of what happened but I am having my conclusions based on the veterinary report, provide by the veterinary clinic, which Dog Ranch has a business agreement and I am also a costumer of the same clinic. There was only a call from Dog Ranch, a day after the incident saying our dog felt and hurt his back. We got desperate for the last minute call, because it was a Saturday afternoon and they were closing in few hours. Fortunately, I was able to book a charter and we arrived on Sunday morning. Eric (the facility bouncer) made even more difficult for us to get our dog of that place, because he wouldn't open the door on Sunday for us. Even having staff at the location and of course this was an emergency case. Our dog should also stayed isolated because of risk of infection and because he had a SERIOUS injury. But instead, they kept him running around 30 dogs, a day after his surgery. I would assume this was at least part of their protocol in case something like that happened but apparently not... So on top of all stress, we still had to find a person available to pick our dog in 2 hours and board him overnight. Our friend was able to get our dog on Saturday and stayed safe until we arrived. Dog Ranch took all decisions, did all procedures and released our dog from the vet facility without our consent or authorization. Dog Ranch also "tried" to contact our number right after the incident but they had a "wrong number". Luckily because of a act of God, they find our number and called us a day after all happened. Long story short, we go hit by a vet bill and a bill from the boarding. Bottom line, keep your dog out of this place. read more

What a horrible group. I made a reservation weeks in advance for a Laguna vacation. I spoke to Vicky and went over all the documents I needed. I sent them a week ahead. No response, I left a message. Finally upon leaving LA I got Vicky on the phone and had to resend the docs. She says, "Oh you need a fecal test. We can't take the dog." She never mentioned it on the phone, never looked at my docs so I could get one ahead of time. Therefore my dog was in a hotel room for hours on end!! Terrible place. read more

Our pup always has a great time there. We've gone to Hawaii for 12 days and dropped her off. They have a great policy that you have to drop your dog off at least three times prior to leaving overnight. All of the dogs are very well behaved. I can't think of any place better than this for your dog. I never had a problem at The Dog Ranch. My dogs have loved every person who works there. My Boxter, Isabel, who passed away several months ago, stayed with The Ranch many times when I went out of town, and was as happy as could be when I came to pick her up. They pay constant attention to the dogs, and seem to love them as much as the dogs love them. I would recommend The Ranch to anyone. Stephanie has put together a wonderful group of people who love dogs and know how to make them calm and happy. It's a great way for them to have socialization with other dogs, both big and small, and they are VERY careful about inoculations and not accepting dogs that are aggressive. We have three pups and are a high-volume user - the best endorsement comes from our dogs themselves - they are always EXCITED when we get here - they LOVE it - they stand up and wag their tails and then they RUSH inside. The dogs come home for the day worn out from all their fun. We've been to other places in the past and this was never the case anywhere else - the dogs were hesitant to go in. The Dog Ranch really gets separated by how meticulous they are -they really know their business and their clients - they check all incoming dogs for aggressiveness etc and make sure that their dog clients maintain some familiarity by attending regularly - this makes for a better "pack" for everyone. The DR works directly with our vet and helps me monitor the pups for what their latest vaccinations or tests are due. At Christmas, special gifts and ornaments for the pups, snow days and wonderful grooming services - we use them for both day trips and extended boarding - the dogs always come back happy and in impeccable condition.
