It's tough to give a star rating for a business that's really two businesses - one, the store, and two, the grooming. If I were only rating the store I'd probably give it 4 stars. They have a great variety of foods and treats, but sometimes a surprisingly high markup on non-food sundries. If you Google price compare it makes it pretty hard to justify buying anything but food in there. At one point I think I was looking at cat nail clippers that turned out to be like $4 more than they cost at their most expensive anywhere on the internet. But if you want to support your local, by all means pay the markup (I bet their rent ain't cheap). BUT then there's the grooming. They are the BEST groomers. I have an old, stinky, long haired, slightly ornery dog and he always comes back to me looking like he's about to walk the runway at Paris fashion week. It's incredible. They are slightly pricier than some other places but it's entirely worth it. read more

they are unprofessional they gave me an appointment for I needed it, my dog to get washed and for her to get a haircut. When I brought her in on Thursday this past Thursday, they gave her a premium wash, which I don't even know what that is. Then they gave me an appointment for Saturday which is today for her cut when I brought her in. They said oh no you're next Saturday I said oh no the young girl that works in there told me this Saturday first of all you screwed up I didn't get my Dogwood. I made an appointment for a wash and a cut that was the first time and the second time they put me on the wrong date. They told me today which is Saturday and I went in there is the following Saturday, very unprofessional, I'll never go there again. Also, they get paid $20 or more to pick up your dog. If you live in the neighborhood they pick and choose who they want very unprofessional. I guess that's their decision to pick up the dog and bring the dog home for the 20 bucks only if you live in a block area, there are other people who live in a block radius, but they won't come and pick up the dog they pick and choose who they want to do for the $20. The girls that give out the appointments are very unprofessional and not knowledgeable at all of what they're doing that was my first time there and my last time there. Carla . M read more

We've brought our dog to four different groomers in Philadelphia and this Doggy Style location is by far the best. The staff here really loves dogs and they've gone out of their way to give our very hairy, aging Aussie some TLC that addresses his problem areas. They've always finished on time and find ways to keep grooming costs down. Both of which, we really appreciate. read more

If they don't stock the brand of pet food you buy, Doggie Style Pets offers a service that allows you to put your name on a list and they promise to always have a bag of that food for you at your preferred location. We've been relying on them for a few months now and today was the second time we showed up to get our bag with only one cup of food left at home, only to find out they never reordered our brand and it could take weeks for it to come in. This wouldn't be so egregious if it was easy to switch a dog's kibble. I'd just buy a different brand. But since you have to ween dogs onto and off of different foods lest they get sick, that's really not an option. So now, I have to go scour the city in HOPES that some other place stocks his food. And if I can't find it I'll have to order it next day delivery on amazon and work from home so I can be there for the delivery (living in the city means packages getting swiped off your stoop if you're not there to take them in. Hence why doggie style's service was so appealing on the surface). TLDR; this store is NOT reliable and because they dropped the ball I'm now massively inconvenienced, spending all of my Saturday searching for dog food. read more

I used to love taking my dogs here for their bath but they recently made a switch to booking with their app, which isn't functional. No big deal - I figured I would call instead. When I called to make an appointment, I was given attitude because I had to book on the app. When I explained my issue they put me "on hold" but actually forgot to hit the hold button. When the employee spoke to someone else about the situation, the other person replied and said "yeah- we've been getting a ton of calls about that". They finally decided to try to book an appointment but after throwing some dates around, they hung up on me and they was the end of that. read more

Great little pet shop, they have a large selection of items for sale. Foods, toys, treats, grooming you name it. The prices here are a little high but they need to make a living too. They had a couple of dogs from shelters that were chilling inside the store, I thought it was really cool that they were helping to find forever homes for these two animals. Pet stores are all the same anymore and they all have that weird fish/hamster/bird smell. Doggie Style doesn't have that smell. It's a very unique place with constant updating and variety. Their cookies range from holidays, to football season, to food items. They have a great selection of toys (a tad pricey), leashes, dog food, etc. They also offer grooming and custom dog tags. The folks who work here do a great job and can answer any, and I mean any, question you might have about pet care. read more

Please is amazing! I take my dog for a walk every day down Passyunk and he always wants to go in! The staff here is amazing both at the retail store and the grooming. We specifically use Tara who has been great with our pup. She is professional and calls me with anything that she is concerned with during the grooming. I adore this store so very much and there's definitely a world of a difference from this location to the others. What makes this store so special to me is the customer service, which is exceptional! On my most recent visit, Yolanda who I had dealt with in the past helped me out with my pup who has decided doesn't want to eat his kibble anymore. She provided me with lots of helpful information and advice, as well and an entire bag stuffed with samples and different things to try! And guess what? It totally worked! I'm so grateful to her! She saved me a ton of money trying different things out! You could tell she wasn't out for my money, but genuinely cared for my little boy. It meant so much to me. The store is clean and well organized. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They're fully stocked with anything you may need from toys and treats, food, clothes, leashes, even special adorable baked goods! I find their prices to be comparable to big chain stores but here you get the small cute boutique feel. They also do grooming! The best part of a visit here is the hard to resist pups up for adoption in the front window and playing with Pumpkin Spice, the super soft house kitty. Oh so cute!! I am a loyal customer for life. My pup and I love this DS location! We are always greeted by a friendly face when we walk in and anything we need for the Pitbull King is accommodated. We usually come here for food, nail trims, and disgusting chewy tracheas which he, for some reason, cannot get enough of. If his food is out of stock, they place an order and call me when it's ready. This location, as well as other DS's, often have shelter pups from Rescue Me in their store to help promote their adoptions. I think it's great! As a pet store it's great. Lots of options for treats and food. The employees are always pleasant and friendly. Have been taking my dog for grooming here for a couple years, and frankly it can be a bit inconsistent. A lot of that is due to some groomers coming and going. Some are certainly better than others. My advice is just to double check your dog's hair is to make sure it's even and check the nails to make sure some have not been missed. If there's an issue, they are always happy to fix it. And if you tell them later on, they are always willing to give you a discount on next cut. Very accommodating like that. It's just unfortunate you can always trust that the haircut will be as good as the time before. read more

As a huge fan of animals, combined with the weird socially awkward fact that I am able to get along with animals better than people most of the time --- I love pet supply stores. I'm not talking about Petsmart or Monster Pets-type places. Those places are depressing, as when I set foot in one of them to simply by some cat food or my weight in kitty litter for my two furry little sons at home, I always accidentally stumble past the poor animals that are up for adoption. Because of those mega-pet store's ability to ruin my day with sad puppy and kitty take-me-home-please eyes, I was thrilled when a Doggie Style opened up in my South Philly neighborhood. Once you step through the door, you are greeted by a huge table full of gourmet dog treats such as doggy donuts and cookies that actually LOOK like cookies that I could chow down on during one of my "movie and PJs" siestas at home. They have a fantastic selection of pet supplies, but the last time that I went in to buy some ear cleaning solution for one of my cats, I had questions about the product and the guy behind the counter was not helpful at all in answering my questions, and spoke to me in a condescending tone. Luckily, one of the other customers in the store was able to help me! I almost picked her up, put HER behind the counter, then picked HIM up, and walked him out the door. read more

I've taken my pup to almost every grooming salon from Girard to Oregon with so-so or horrible results. I've paid anywhere from $35-90 for a full groom, and either hated the cut, or liked it but never loved it. Taking a chance, I took my little Monkey man to Doggie Style on Passyunk last weekend and Neil took time to ask me tons of questions about Monkey and my style preferences. I felt very confident that Neil knew what he was talking about, so I gave him an overview of what I preferred, showed him a pic of Monkey with a good cut, and told him to use his best judgment if his hair was too matted to cut it the way I requested. I'm not too picky about cuts, but I know a good one when I see one. A few hours later, Monkey emerged, smelling delightful, and looking handsomeR than ever!!! I am so pleased with the cut that Neil gave him and will definitely be back as long as Neil is there! Not sure what other Yelpers are talking about, this DS was very clean and friendly - the staff was super nice and gave me some guidance on what treats were good for Monkey. I also love that they showcase a dog in the window up for adoption! read more

The whole process is an absolute pain, not to mention the fact that an elderly dog recently died after receiving a standard service from on of their locations. This review is for Neil the groomer.. He rules! My one dog is a rescue and is scared of EVERYTHING! We take her there to get her nails cut and it's always a dramatic time for her.. She gets so scared she poops all over the place ( which makes me super embarrassed and I feel bad for the workers) but Niel is so awesome! He is understanding and kind. My review is only for the grooming portion of this location, as I continue to patronize the two Center City locations. My experience in one word: horrible. I cried once I picked up my beloved Westie from the groomer. We went last June, not long after they first opened. The groomer was young and lacked confidence. In the end she clearly did not understand the basic breed hairstyle. Track marks from the electric shaver were visible. She even managed to break the skin and I found little traces of blood in his white fur on his back. The corporate office was understanding of my complaints, but in the end they put me back in touch with the store manager who was less sympathetic. I was told I would need to wait for the owners to get back from vacation for some sort of compensation, which never happened. I understand that a company should not be to blame for one bad groomer. For my most recent grooming, I took my dog to the Rittenhouse location. The groomer listened to my concerns and requests, and my Westie came out looking fabulous. read more

My house is about a 30 second walk from Doggie Style. Over the six years I've lived here, I've stopped by almost everyday to see the adorable dogs up for adoption (they work with the rescue org Saved Me/Operation Ava). This summer, I was lucky enough to bring home one of those irresistible pooches! Since then, I have been stopping at Doggie Style here and there for supplies. The staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. The groomer, Neil, helped us out when our puppy Louie rolled in chewing gum (yeah, I know... gotta love puppies!!) and has offered to show us how to trim Louie's nails. You may pay a couple of bucks more for supplies at Doggie Style than at the big box pet supply shops, but you are supporting a local business that cares about the animals in its community. Highly recommend stopping by and checking this place out! read more

Good for cat food and litter since there's not much in the area - and I don't have a car right now. My one cat is a black long hair cat, and we give her a stupid lion cut every summer to keep her cool. I was so excited when I found out this location hired a cat groomer - just in time! We go there today... and the groomer was MIA. Not answering any phones, and the poor girl working there was obviously freaked out. She was advised to give the groomer 10 more minutes, so we waited there with our cat. There were also two dogs waiting downstairs, and one other dog arrived about 5 minutes after we did. It's pretty bad when your sales associate recommends you make another appointment elsewhere. Guess we're going back down to NoLibs for the lion cut, unless anyone else has a groomer to recommend in South Philly. Gah! read more

Absolutely love this place! This is where I adopted my Chinese Crested Maria! The staff at this location are very knowledgeable about grooming and supplies needed for taking care of any type of pets. I also have Maria groomed occasionally by Neil! He is amazing as well and is very gentle with my baby! I also occasionally get her hair dyed. This place is fantastic! From the products, to the customer service, and grooming... About a month ago,I took my 6 month old, wiggly pup, Miles to get his nails trimmed for the first time since we adopted him. He instantly loved Neil, and pranced down stairs with him. I was nervous, since he can't sit still for very long, that he would come up a bloody mess, but I was wrong! Neil did an amazing job on his nails, and an amazing job handling him, so I decided to book a grooming with him shortly after. I couldn't have been more happy with Miles' cut- and neither could Miles. He came out super soft and excited. Overall, the prices here are reasonable for the products and services they offer. The location is super convenient. The staff is incredibly knowledgable. Consistently great experiences, and I'll surely be back for more! read more

This place is awesome. Everyone is always super helpful and more then willing to stop and answer any questions you have. I bring my Boston Terrier here to see "Uncle Neil" to have his nail clipped. When I had my furbaby over, Neil always gives him a hug and refers to him by his "street name" Butta. Courtney is equally as awesome. She was brave enough to tackle the job of clipping our cat, Toast's, nails. Even helped us out when he decided to lay down on a sticky fly trap. What a mess! Love this place. read more

This review is solely for the nail cutting service I used last week. Called in to make an appointment and they were incredibly booked for the next 1.5 weeks. However I mentioned I just wanted the little one's nails cut and the staff member tol me to just come on in, it is a walk in basis. I would recommend mentioning that right off the bat when someone calls for grooming because I would have hung up hadn't I mentioned that. Walked in, puppy went right with the groomer. I kid you not 3 minuites later she was back up in my arms smiling. Nails were cut great and it saved me a 1.5 hours of fighting with her to try myself. $10, 3 minutes= happy baby puppy read more

I love the staff, they're knowledgeable and friendly. When I first rescued my dog I brought him in to buy some toys and a sweater to keep him warm. Every time I bring him back they recognize him, they even noticed that he put on weight and his coloring had improved. The groomer, Neil, was very friendly and did a good job with my dog. I know it wasn't easy since it was Neil's first time cutting my dog and Pickle's second time I took him to get groomed. This location also has an adoptable dog in the window, which I think is a wonderful way to help animals get adopted. You can tell they care about the community and the animals living in it. I always have a positive experience when I go into this location, and the staff is always willing to answer my ridiculous questions and make suggestions. read more

We adopted our pup Lily from this location not too long ago (from Saved Me, but she was being kept here). The whole staff was fantastic and you could tell that they really care about and show affection and attention to the adoptable doggies in the window while they are waiting for homes. :) They were patient and kind with us, gave us as much information as they could about our pooches personality and behavior that they had seen while she had been there as well as gave us a heads up on a few breed-specific things we might encounter as she gets older. We were back in the area and stopped in to pick up a few things and Ian recognized us right away. As far as suggestions on products and tools/aids for grooming and training he is the best, and has yet to lead us astray! read more

Doggie style pretty much always has what we need. They can be a little pricey, but 9 times out of 10, it is because you are buying a superior product. You just have to know what items usually cost so you know if you are getting a fair price. They also carry many food brands that are hard to find elsewhere. In our experience, the staff here is always helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. You can tell they are really "animal people".They always give our little guy snack samples, which help him get over how overwhelmed he is by all the stimuli in the store. We just got our dog's winter coat here. Its very high quality and half the price of what we've seen elsewhere for the same quality. They also allow the clothing to be tried on, which is very helpful. One of my favorite things about DS is the adoption animals at the locations. Its great that they have animals who need homes on display to get good homes and its charming to be greeted by a cute cat or pup when you walk in.
