Working in the service/salon business myself I found Nick to be completely professional and attentive to my dog who also had a pleasant experience here. You can't please everyone all the time and some people who come to us with an attitude and believe that we're going to take that abuse from them. BEST GROOMER IN PHILLY. I've tried everyone in this city, but no service compares to what my pomeranian receives at Pampered Pooch. I have always felt awful leaving my puppy at a groomer for the afternoon, especially when I hear other dogs yipping and barking from the back room (the grooming waiting room). My biggest nightmare is leaving her with a groomer who sticks my small & shy little pup in a kennel until it's her turn to be groomed, or who sticks her in a play-pen with a bunch of bigger rowdy dogs waiting to be picked up or groomed. This is NOT the case at Pampered Pooch. Thankfully! : ) As soon as you walk in the salon, you feel at ease. This is a one-pup-at-a-time kind of groomer. (which might be why it's sometimes hard to get on their schedule!) There is french cafe music playing in the background, and one delightful groomer to coddle your beloved pup while trimming, clipping, and primping your pooch to perfection. I love the pampered pooch. I've been taking my shih tzu Henry here for over 5 years and I couldn't be more pleased. His cuts always look perfect and i get so many compliments on his grooming, even when it's been weeks after his appointment and I think he looks dirty. Nick is always friendly and nice to talk to when dropping off and picking up and has been really helpful and understanding and taken great care when Henry has had eye issues. I could see why it would be difficult to get an appointment here since Nick does such a great job and is likely in very high demand. I took my puppy for his first grooming here and I was unhappy for two reasons. 1) I did not like the cut they gave around the face, he had an adorable cut beforehand and we just wanted a trim; when we came back his whole snout was shaved with a large amount of hair on top of the head, that looked like a mushroom top 2) I thought the groomer was rude. Apparently my 4 month old puppy was not used to all the grooming techniques. Instead of telling me what to do next time--like play with his paws more and try to file his nails-- he made comments such as "have you done ANY training with your puppy? You know this breed is not supposed to be for first time dog owners!" So in summary, I thought the hair cut was bad and instead of being helpful with a new puppy was actually just rude and standoffish. I will not be bringing my new puppy back there. And, I am not a new dog owner, this is my 5th dog and while i'm new to Philly, I am not new to how grooming should go. read more

Wow, I can't believe no one has reviewed Pampered Pooch yet... Well, they certainly keep a low profile. It's a pretty small shop. Nonetheless, I was still able to make last-minute appointments for two foster dogs who came home from the shelter with an overload of unshed dog tufts and that greasy "stray dog smell." Pampered Pooch did a fantastic job with my doggies' extreme makeovers. The prices are very reasonable, with a basic shampoo, brush, and nail trim around $10 below the competition. The groomer I met (I think there are one or two others, but both times it was the same guy) was very polite. And it was heavenly to finally be able to cuddle up to my foster doggies without having to scrub my hands afterward. read more

Pampered Pooch was fantastic! I brought my cat in for a lion's cut, which he desperately needed due to some mats on his chest and hind legs that I just couldn't get out. An hour later, kitty was all shaved and clean and smelling nice! I was very excited to find a groomer that will actually take a cat, and I was even more excited to see the gentle way she interacted and responded to my cat. Plus the store is 2 blocks from my house, so this really can't be beat. My total was $65 plus tax and tip for a nail trim, bath, and cut. I'm not sure what other groomers would have charged, but considering how bad a couple of his mats were, I think the price was reasonable. read more

This is the best groomer in town IMHP. My 5-lb Yorkie Missy is never nervous when I bring her into the salon, which has happened in other salons. We went to Kelly at her old salon and was happy to find her here, but Nick is just as wonderful w Missy, takes great care of her, and she comes out calm and beautifully groomed. People post problems contacting them but it's a VERY busy salon and give Nick a chance to get back to you. Believe me, it's worth it. read more

Although I was pleased with the one time that I had my dog groomed here, it was overpriced for what it was, the groomer was quite strange and openly did not like how much I tipped her. I've called them once since then to come back and they were quite rude to me on the phone... I'll stick to Doggie Style groomers - easier scheduling, it's cheaper, and they are very very nice. read more

I've been bringing my pup to Nick for almost 2 years and he always looks amazing when I pick him up. The shop is very clean and I've always found Nick to be professional and polite. Most importantly, Nick is good with my anxious dog. My dog has hair, not fur, and so it tends to get tangled and tough to deal with right before he comes in. So, Nick has his hands full with an anxious pup and a tangled mane but he is quick, and my little guy always looks awesome. Thanks Nick!! read more

I finally got in touch with the owner of The Pampered Pooch and she was very apologetic for what happened. She had no idea that my dog's ear was cut. The person who groomed my dog was new and it was her first day. The owner also said that she normally does tell the dog's owner right away if anything happens. I feel better and will probably take my dog back to The Pampered Pooch, but I will request a different groomer. :) read more

Nick is a does a good job BUT he is so rude and so nasty . I used Nick for many years and he decided that my dog was difficult-. I tried another groomer who is so wonderful, so loving and cannot believe that anyone would say he is difficult . Not For Cats! the ladies were nice enough and maybe they're great dog groomers. But she really did not know how to do a cat's Lion Cut. Thankfully, my husband was there to save my Himalayan from being completely butchered. He aborted the "grooming" and went out to buy our own pair of thinning shears in order to fix the damage to her beautiful coat. The lines around the mane and legs were uneven and not blended. There were bald chunks and stray tufts of hair throughout the body. After seeing what a Lion cut entails, I am confident I could do a much better job myself. At least our cat is very mellow and easy to handle, so the experience was not traumatic for her as it was for me. Nick has been grooming my dog, Benny for a year now. Nick is great with Benny, and Benny gets excited the minute he sees the shop. Nick is very professional and has a great way with the dogs. I cannot fathom anyone calling him rude. We have nothing but wonderful things to say. I just wish there were 2 or 3 Nicks so it would be easier to get Benny in for his cuts! Avoid them at all costs, forget the positive reviews on this site. I brought my pomeranian based on the reviews I read. The first time was ok, the second time they did a shoddy job and clearly they were overbooked. The third time, they SHAVED my pom WITHOUT my permission. My instructions were, 'I would like her a bit shorter, not too short.' She gave no reason, but I could tell the person there was by herself and completely overwhelmed. She said, 'lots of people like the lion cut so I did that.' Clearly, this person did not know anything about poms - when you shave them, you alter their coat permanently because the top coat almost never grows back. It has been 4 months and I waited before posting this because I don't like to give negative reviews. But the extent of their screwup is clear now. My dog is not the same, they permanently damaged my dog. I consistently saw them overbooked and overwhelmed. Do yourselves a favor and go somewhere else. read more
