I've hopped around from grooming place to grooming place in search of the best one and I've finally found it! I took my mini golden doodle in for a full groom. He's usually very shy and anxious around other people but the groomer at TopDawg must have known just how to handle him. He was pretty matted so they gave him a very short cut but still managed to a thin layer of fur which was perfect. My pup smelled super clean and his once curly, matted hair was silky soft! They were also super quick. Other grooming places take almost 5 hours which make me think they're often putting the dogs in crates in between steps and adding unnecessary time and anxiety to an already stressful situation. I saw a girl walking her pup down the street with such a nice haircut so I had to ask where she got it from and she told me TopDawg groomers! This led me to go ahead and check their webpage/IG page out and decide to set up an appt. They were very very nice and accommodating and kept it real with me which I loved. The woman did such a great job grooming my puppy. This was her 2nd time actually getting a cut (1st cut was a puppy cut at PetSmart). I can't rave enough about how great of a job they did. Definitely do not take your dog here. He badly cut my puppy and didn't even tell me it had occurred. It's three days later and her entire armpit is still covered in very painful scabbing that she keeps licking and cries when it is touched. He also ignored my requests about how her face and head be trimmed and made her look ridiculous (like, the hair is way longer on one side of her head than the other; they shaved her nose to the skin after I directly asked them not to). When I expressed concern, the owner called and screamed at me, and then told me that if I posted a review telling people what happened that he would make up lies. He tried to say that I cut my dog myself to make it look like he did it, which is obviously truly absurd. Avoid at all costs - if anything goes wrong they will not take responsibility and will gaslight you. And, they don't take safety of the animals seriously. This is THE best grooming business in the city. I've been taking my pup here since she was a baby, and she always comes back looking like a princess. Additionally, their customer service is 100% - and there's nothing I love more than sincere CS. (I've worked in CS for over a decade and will always recognize an amazing experience.) My pup is a shitzu-poodle-yorkie mix and tends to be anxious, but she's always excited to visit her favorite groomer! And if I myself ever get anxious about how's she's doing, I give them a call and they respond right away with an update and ETA. *** DOUBLE COATED DOG OWNERS BEWARE*** I wish I would've read the 1-star reviews so I could have avoided this place. The first and second appointments went fine. Both times I was specifically asked to post 5-star reviews online for a mediocre-at-best grooming. However, they completely shaved my double-coated Pomsky (grooming 101, what NOT to do) during his third appointment earlier this summer, causing irreversible damage to his coat. It is beyond ruined - his fur hasn't grown back the same, and even his fur color is different now due to his undercoat showing through (see before and after photos). The vet had to prescribe additional skin protectant to prevent sunburn during the hot summer months. Any reputable groomer knows NEVER to shave a double-coated dog (unless it's for a medical reason). I knew the groomer had messed up when she called me halfway through the appointment to confirm the length I had wanted. She forgot to hang up, and I overheard her speaking to her coworker saying, "I feel so bad..." That made me uneasy, and I was horrified when they finally brought my dog out. The groomer apologized multiple times ("I know it's shorter than what you had wanted..."), and proceeded to charge me full price. I am absolutely appalled by what they did to my dog and will never be going back. EDIT: Owner replied back saying groomer "has experience" and that they are disappointed I left a negative review. First of all, if your groomer is apologizing to me as she is bringing my dog out - you already know what you did wrong and had plenty of time to make reparations in the days/weeks that followed. No one reached out to me to make amends. You still chose to charge me full price despite the fact that my dog's coat may never be the same because of your mistake. Customer service is clearly not your top priority. Secondly, it's literally common knowledge that you do NOT shave a double coated dog without reason. I'm not a professional groomer and even I know that. When my partner asked the groomer whether she had used a clipper guard with our dog, she did not even know what we were talking about which was a major red flag. Please make sure your groomers are properly trained and have the appropriate certifications before handling beloved pets. ***before and after photos clearly show his fur color/quality/condition has completely changed*** read more

Save your time and money and go elsewhere. I took my mini goldendoodle here for a 3pm appointment on a Saturday. Other reviews had said how welcoming the owner and their family was, but the owner wasn't welcoming with me. He didn't want to hold my dog or even touch him, and just kept him on the ground on the leash barking as we talked. I explained how I would like his cut to be done, and I asked if he would like to see a picture. He said, "I guess" and barely looked at it. This was my first indicator that something might go wrong. I picked up my dog two hours later right at closing (5pm), which might be why he came out only half done. His body was cut down to 3/8", but his legs and head were barely cut at all. The owner said they decided not to cut his legs because of mats, but why was his head unfinished and uneven? There was a very poor attempt to blend it at the transition regions, so now I have a dog with a very short hair cut on the body and poofy legs and head. I really think this was a rushed job and they didn't finish it because they were so close to closing. I have to take my dog to another groomer, who said they will trim the legs and head and make him even. I regret coming here, as this was the worst hair cut my dog has ever received. read more

We love TopDawg. If you can handle Bear, you can handle any dog. Our 2 year old 130lb lap dog (Rottweiler) sometimes doesn't know his strength or weight. He loves to play and LOVES new people. I always feel comfortable knowing that my dog is in good hands when I drop him off to get groomed. The staff is super communicative with clients about how you want your dog's haircut to look. One time my dog was so matted, they purposely took a longer time to cut his hair just to keep him comfortable because each cut was so uncomfy for him! And the last time I got him groomed there, they've called me to let me know ahead of time that they'd need to cut his fur a little shorter than we talked about, just to clear it with me first. I wish I could give negative stars for this place but I unfortunately can't...this place is horrible- the owner is rude, unprofessional and cursed at me after turning me and my poor puppy away on one of the hottest days of the year. We drove across town and the ride took us over 40 min with traffic. I frantically ran my dog in and the owner's young daughter told us that we were 10 min late so we'd have to reschedule bc it's "only her dad" working today and they are very busy. We rescheduled for the next day at 11:00 am and asked the girl if I could at least get some water for my puppy bc it was so hot out. She claimed that they "just ran out." So I begrudgingly returned the next day and purposely left the house with an hour and 15 min to spare bc my dog desperately needed a haircut and we had to wait forever for the 1st appointment. Well apparently there were major city closures for some Labor Day event and it took us over an hour to get there. At 10:45, I called the store to let them know that we were on our way but every detour led to another detour and I didn't want to get there and get turned away again. The owner's daughter said she didn't know bc it's "only her dad" today (which is clearly a blanket statement given to customers to make them feel bad...and shows that the owner is teaching his daughter to not only lie but also do the dirty work!)...shame on him! The "daughter" placed me on hold and told me that her dad said it was fine and we continued to drive there. At 11:12 AM the owner text me to say that if I was not there by 11:15, he could not do it. I told him I was right around the corner but it was blocked so I will be there as soon as possible. I parked the car and walked up at 11:14 AM with my puppy and the owner let me in the shop. He then said that he I could not fit my dog in because it would f*** up his whole schedule...He rubbed his hands through my dogs hair and said oh he's full of knots but you are late so I have to say no because you were late. I explained the road closures and he scolded me like a child. Needless to say, I'm glad I didn't leave my pup there because if he has such disrespect for humans, I can only imagine how treats animals! What a wonderful place owned by two lovely people! We took our dog, Zoey, there based on many recommendations and couldn't be more pleased! Zoey can get really anxious sometimes about going to get groomed. Not this time. She was treated with such enthusiasm when we arrived and was allowed to look and sniff around which made her feel more at ease. Amin took great care and time to get to know Zoey and let Zoey get to know him- how awesome is that? We even got an update picture while she was there and she looked so happy. The quality of the grooming is top-notch too! They recognized right away that she was in her shedding phase and spent time de-shedding her prior to her bath. I went to Topdawg salon this past week for the first time and I had a wonderful experience with my 2 year old cavapoodle. My experience: Upon arriving, I was greeted by Tasha. The salon is small and quaint which I really like which showed to me that they aren't trying to cram tons of dogs into their schedule. I love they have a big window where you can see your dog her groomed. Tashas husband groomed Yogi and they slowly introduced themselves to Yogi which I really appreciated so he would feel more comfortable. I am happy with their pricing and yogi smells great. It's been over a week and he's frolicked through the grass plenty of times and he still smells and looks great. Same prices as Petsmart but WAYYYY better service and care for my pet. Most likely the best one and one care you will get in Philly for your fur baby. We loved him so much we actually made a whole vlog about our dog's day at top dawg. The salon is small and nestled in Point Breeze with a look of a old barber shop turned into a day spa for dogs. Clothes, leashes, meds, the works hang on the walls and prices are very reasonable. We usually call about a few days in advance to make an appointment but with word of mouth reviews, the salon seems to be much busier. We first heard of the pet salon from a friend who takes her two dogs there and we have sent some of our friends here, too. Local business, not a chain, and one on one service. If you're looking for a place with lots of character and who will add some style to your pup or cat, thus is the place. He gave us some advice on how to get moles off our dog Mimi and gifted some hydrocortisone spray for her allergies. He is a pretty amazing groomer, one of the best we have ever had. read more

Best grooming experience that I've ever had! The results from Top Dawg last a very long time, so its a great value. My dog is a Collie/Shepherd mix with lots of fur and shedding...I mean LOTS. They somehow get her completely dry and cleaned in just one hour and she doesn't shed for weeks after leaving TopDawg.
