The hot dogs were good. Service was fast, but they were a bit slow to open in the morning. Good lunch spot in Utrecht.

Oh my... step aside artisanal burgers, artisanal hot dogs are the next big thing. This is certainly…read moretrue for Bulls and Dogs. With a bold and innovative menu that ranges from soy hot dogs with hummus and popcorn to lamb hot dogs with harissa, there is seemingly a hot dog for every taste. So if you are looking for a trendy hot dog, look no further than Bulls and Dogs. It is the Crif Dogs (in New York) of Rotterdam minus the hidden bar behind the phone booth. We came to Bulls and Dogs on a rare sunny day in Rotterdam, and the picnic benches set up outside left a very nice relaxed, lazy summer evening atmosphere. Our jaws literally dropped to the floor when we saw the menu - so. much. choice. And real talk, those "freakalicious" milkshakes sounded truly freakalicious.. whatever that means. I had the Chocolate Chip Cookie Milkshake, the Smokey Pepper Dog and Curly Fries. Word to the wise, you should be really hungry and really ready to eat if you want to take up the challenge of eating all of this. The Chocolate Chip Cookie Milkshake was inspired - this beautiful chocolate chip cookie at the top literally crumbled in your mouth, and the cookies stuck on with Nutella at the mouth of the mason jar was ingenious. The whipped cream was so fluffy, and just sweet enough without being too overbearing. The milkshake itself was maybe not quite as viscous as I would like my milkshakes, lacking that creamy thickness you would usually expect. But when drunk with the hot dog, I definitely appreciated that it wasn't as thick. On its own, however, I probably would have appreciated a bit more creaminess. The Smokey Pepper Dog was delicious. The pretzel bun was the perfect texture, the sauce added this beautiful peppery taste to the hot dog. Visually, it was stunning - so much colour, very well plated. The taste was also pretty spot on. I think my biggest gripe with this hot dog in the end really came down to a matter of preference. I always find that a hot dog should have closer to a 50:50 ratio between bun and meat. This one was closer to 70:30 with much less meat than I would have liked. The hot dog was then drowned in this creamy harissa sauce which really made the hot dog a bit heavier than I would prefer, and made the "dog" much less of a star of the dish. Oh there was meat in there? Finally the curly fries - on point. Crispy, well-seasoned, perfect. All in all, it was an ambitious meal - very heavy on the stomach, but at the same time a very inventive, whimsical menu with a decent execution and beautiful presentation.

Nice comfortable atmosphere with plenty of seating. Various hot dog combinations, fancy milkshakes,…read moreyummy sides and cocktails available.

And despite ALL of our meals in Amsterdam being excellent, this one may have been the best. We wanted to try Dutch food, not totally knowing what to expect and were blown away by the combination of flavors and textures we consumed. We started with the pickled herring which was served with onions and pickles- fresh yet bold! I'm still thinking about those little fishies weeks later. Then we each had the sampler-ish plates (I forget what it was called). Hers was the vegetarian version and mine was with sausage. There were 3 kinds of essentially mashed potatoes with veggies mixed in: 1 with spinach I think, 1 with carrots, and 1 with sauerkraut. Mine came with a delightfully rich gravy and my moms came with some kind of lighter yellow sauce (I think mustard based). We tried these same dishes at other Dutch restaurants during our stay, but nothing beat The Pantry. The service in this quaint and cozy spot was also excellent!

Portions are substantial and a very good value in a neighborhood where tourist-markups are the norm. They have a/c, but in order to feel it you'll need to sit closer to the back of the restaurant/near the kitchen, as there is only one wall unit back there, and they leave the front of the restaurant open to the elements (even in 98+ degree heat).

Usually that is how I pick my restaurants, by the fries! Here I had no idea about the fries before we sat down! I ordered the grilled cheese and husband got a chicken sandwich with fries to split. These were the BEST fries I've ever had. They were perfectly cooked. I could tell that they were double cooked as they should be for homemade fresh fries. I am so glad we didn't get a different variety of them so we could really experience the perfection of the taste! Oh and the grilled cheese and chicken sandwich were delicious too! I definitely will be back for more!

Passed a couple of places but the vibe of this restaurant seemed really happening and they had great pictures of their burgers in the window, so next thing we knew had walked in and were putting in our table orders. I decided to get a Burger Menu combo - burger, fries & a side dish for €16.50 and ordered the Asian Chicken Thriller and upgraded to Umami fries and small beet salad. My co-diner decided to do the same and got the Burger of the day along with Truffle paremesan fries and the Green Salad for her side. I enjoyed the chicken - was very well cooked, but initially the taste was too sweet for me. When got extra wasabi mayo, that bumped up the taste level for me. I didn't enjoy the Umami fries and the accompanying Black Garlic mayo was ok. The beet salad was a surprise as assumed it was more of a yogurt dressing but instead it was more like proper yogurt. This while tasty, didn't really fit into the rest of what I had ordered - I ended up having this as a dessert instead. Drink wise I got a ginger tea which was decent, but the glass I was served in was a bit dirty. Service was great, and the food was served very quickly. We split the bill and individual cost was €21 and change, so very reasonable. Also found out that the menu is prepared by a famous Dutch chef (a la Jamie Oliver) but he doesn't own the restaurant or anything, just changes the menu every 3-4 months. Our server also provided us with a comment card and along with the bill, we got these lovely coffee drops, which I much prefer to mint! Had a great time so I'd come back to this restaurant again.
