I brought my dog in to get a trim and when I picked her up I was totally shocked at what Jocelyn did. My dog is a havenese and she shaved all her hair off and she was not matted.. She looked like a jack russell terrier instead of my fluffy havanese. Don't go there. Charged me $80 also. We tried Dogs by design for our puppy's first grooming. It is the worst grooming I have ever seen. The top of her nose was shaved along with her belly and half her chest. Yet the top of her body not done. So very odd and the cut around her face is very uneven. Looks very odd! She looks like she has a small head and paws on a large body. We have no idea why the belly was shaved since she was not matted at all! Just awful! And it was expensive! 80$ for the puppy who wasn't even nicely and fully groomed! I will never go back and I do not recommend this establishment! read more

I brought my cat and dog in they both had a bad case of fleas, the shop manager Linda assured me not to worry that they could handle the infestation. Taylar was very kind to my skiddish pup, she's usually nervous around strangers. But she returned happy and didn't seem to want to leave haha :) I would and have recommended this place to many of my friends and family! So glad to find a cat groomer such a rarity! read more

Third times a charm! (NOT) This is the third time I have had an 8am appointment and the owner doesn't show up on time. I called yesterday to get an appointment for Friday before going away. No answer at the shop but got a call back 10 minutes later. Offered me the 8 am slot and i took it. Once again stand outside the shops door (Opens at 8am) and door locked and building dark. Get a call 10 minutes later from the owner asking if I am at the shop. Told her I have been here for 15 minutes!. "Oh...I forgot I had the 0800 appt." Third time this has happened. Then it is i forgot to set my alarm...I should be there by 0830. SERIOUSLY? Time for a new groomer because this one has gone from great to ridiculous. read more

I just walked out of my dogs grooming after being treated incredibly rudely by a women named Jocelyn. I am genuinely appalled. As soon as I got here I was made to feel as if I were a inconvenience to her busy schedule, despite that I had called and had a appointment. Instant bad vibes. She had a attitude and was rough making me uncomfortable leaving my dog with her, so naturally I decide to stay and see how she worked. She told me that was fine. But looking at how she worked was not happy about it! First off, she was reckless cutting my dogs nails. Very reckless hardly looking at the paw when she went in for the nail. She even told me that cutting the vain on the dog nail happens all the time, which certainly didn't make me feel any more comfortable. If your careful and professional you should not be cutting nerves all the time! I canceled the teeth cleaning after watching how much bear hated her bathing technique, usually he loves bathes. Even when random kids give him baths. But he didn't like her, and I was getting more and more reasons to not trust her. I just wanted her away from my dog. After the bath a very nice cool girl was drying bear. She was good. Honestly if it wasn't for this Jocelyn this could be a great place! But Jocelyn is bad. Made worse because was mean to the other girls here in front of me too. She came in and in a bossy way told her to finish drying bears other side and the send bear to the kennel. I just wanted my dog cleaned, and and after all this I didn't want to leave bear in a kennel. He was almost dry so i asked if I could take my dog now please. The chill girl was cool about it. Jocelyn, however, had the audacity to raise her voice at me and pretty much yell at me for not telling her over the phone that I didn't want bear dried. It was so rude. How was I to know his place would be such a terrible experience? She was saying how she wants to brush my dog for a half hour. There was no way I was going to leave her another min with my dog! I was looking forward to a good experience for my dog and a clean dog. Instead I was insulted and yelled at by this terrible women. I truly hate having a bad review for a small business like this, but that women was soooo bad! And I believe a danger to dogs after what I saw. And I don't think anyone should trust their dogs to a place that lets that type of character run the show. read more

I randomly brought my dog as a walk in here one day as he had gotten into a skunk and still smelled on his head, especially when he got wet. They were able to accommodate me as a walk in and groom him with a full "skunk" free bathing, etc. They took the liberty to trim him up a bit like they would for free per the type of breed he is. So if you don't want them to do this, you'll want to make sure to say so in advance. He was SO incredibly fluffy and soft, everyone who petted him afterward were equally amazed as I was at how soft his fur was. I will say I've never had my dog groomed before so I was a bit surprised as to how much it cost, but to get rid of his skunk smell it was well worth it. read more

I am very pleased with the service and prices I receive at Dogs by Design. This business is just about the only local business that grooms cats, and they do a very good job at a very reasonable price. I have a Himalayan that needs grooming at least 4 times a year. The prices are so affordable, relative to what I previously paid, that I bring my little guy in more often. In addition, I find the staff to be very professional and attentive to my requests. They are also very quick, which is great because it reduces the stress of being away from home for my cat. read more

We bring our black lab here. Our dog is a sweetheart, but is skittish around new people and hates to be bathed. We keep coming here because of Jocelyn. When we arrive our dog doesn't want to leave the car because she knows she's in for a grooming. But when we finally get her inside, and she sees Jocelyn, she perks right up, and bounds over to her to say hello. We know our puppy is getting great treatment because of that. Wonderful, professional, and above all, compassionate care from Jocelyn today with my elderly cat. I did not know, until I called a few places, that there are so many groomers who either do not do cats, or who do not do OLD cats. My long-haired cat stopped grooming himself, and is about 19 years old. He looks a mess, but still overall is healthy and has a few of his nine lives left. He had a hard mat of fur on him that I thought I'd need a miracle to get removed. My vet quoted me $388 to anesthetize him and remove it. However, Jocelyn was able to get this fur clump off of him and charged me $30. I could not believe it. She was quick, caring, and efficient in every way. I can tell she really cares about cats. She was able to comb him, too, and taught me a bit about how to help him and make sure that no mighty fur mats or clumps occur again. My cat would tell you the experience was no fun, but at the moment he is back on his cat bed and looks and seems really relieved, calm and happy. The mats and clumps were bringing him down, and I think he is super happy to have them gone. I highly recommend Jocelyn and Dogs by Design and Cats, Too. read more

I made an appointment here to have my dog groomed , I spoke with Jocelyn and then reconfirmed the night before, we agreed on an 8:00 AM drop off. Jocelyn never showed up, didn't pick up my calls and hours later still hasn't followed up to apologize for no showing! After waiting 25 minutes, an assistant appeared and advised me "that Jocelyn sometimes stays at her boyfriends house and they don't have an alarm clock and so she often oversleeps". Not exactly a professional operation or a place that cares about customer's time or opinions. I would NOT recommend going here if customer service matters to you. read more

I just moved to this area & needed to find a groomer for my Persian cat, who is very skittish & nearly impossible to groom. Dogs by Design is conveniently located near my 'hood so I decided to give it a try. The salon was clean & tidy & I received a warm welcome from the owner. Both the owner & Caitlyn (the groomer) took the time to speak with me so I could explain my cat's disposition & history of being a challenge to groom...they even made notes in her file for future reference! I could tell that they took their business seriously & genuinely cared about animals. I left, expecting to get a call within the hour to come back for her because she was too panicked to be groomed. I did get a call an hour & a half later, but it was to say that my cat was fully groomed & ready to be picked up! Caitlyn worked wonders with my frightened, extremely shy little girl!! She was perfectly groomed & I could tell by her demeanor that her experience had been a positive one. Caitlyn at Dogs by Design will be our groomer from now on, even if I move away from the Beverly area! read more

I bring both my dogs here and always get excellent service, my dogs look great and smell great. My golden gets a short haircut every summer and they do such a great job with her. They have both come here several times and my dogs are very afraid when I drop them off but they don't want to leave when I pick them up. I have been taking my dogs to them for over 5 years. I was very satisfied would not have gone anywhere esle until this year. One of my dogs is a handful and I know that. I was always appreciative for what they could do with her energy. My other one was always good from day one and she has been going there the longest. She always loved going for her bath. But something changed this past year. She would pull to leave every time we would get there. Then after the last few visits she was never herself when she got home and always ended up at the ver because of limbing. The last visit in September I ended up at the animal hospital because something was wring with her back, They told me she may have to have surgery. Thank goodness so far she is Ok but we need to be careful with her and watch her. I notified them of this and my disappointment and no one ever even called to make sure she was OK. I will not return and will not recomment anyone to them again. read more

Recently visited DBDACT for the 2nd time but w/ our very skittish and smelly kitty, KitKat, who usually needs to be sedated for a grooming. Again Jocelyn did not disappoint! She was gentle, yet professional and did a great job. KK was not sedated!!! He was calm w/ her! Like Quabbi, he was relaxed on the ride home after a much needed grooming. No more "Smelly Cat"! THE WORST! I took my Yorkshire terrier there a few times and most recently they severely cut her and didn't even tell me when I picked her up! When I noticed it at home and called them to complain they said they "forgot" to tell me. Dog owners beware - this is NOT a safe location to bring your pets. read more
