We took the 7-week introductory puppy course with instructor Brittany P. and it was a life saver. Brittany taught us how to control our puppy with techniques such as the quiet hold, zen activities, puppy socialization tactics to help with safety measures, and proper leash walking recommendations. This introductory class really helped us understand puppy behavior, how to course correct and integrate obedience training into our daily lives. Something ironic is that week #1 we had about 5 puppies and as every week passed, we ended up being the only group / puppy for the final 3 weeks so we basically got 1:1 attention! Not sure where / why others backed down but we still really appreciated all that Brittany was able to help us with. Her energy and enthusiasm for puppy obedience were outstanding. Within this puppy course, there are obedience steps you will learn in your training and then complete homework assignments where you will plug and play what you learned into your daily routine (IE: during outdoor walks, kennel time, feeding, sleeping, etc.) There is a generous parking lot on the side and there are two rooms within the building. I can only speak towards the top level as that is where my training was and the space felt very clean considering how many dogs visit each day. My understanding of the basement room is that it is used for agility training but I am sure you can confirm this on the website. We had so much fun that we will probably return for level 2 training. My dog did both and I can't recommend. There is a lack of consistency between trainers. Take the same course with 2 different trainers, terms and methods will all be different. Communication with the office is difficult. I and 3 others I know who used them found the same. Last but definitely not least, serious lack of professionalism in trainers. My boy took the CGC course. He passed the practice test on the last week. I posted I was proud of him on a Facebook group. The following week he failed the official test. His trainer/evaluator went on the Facebook group and mocked us, saying we received divine retribution for bragging and need to eat humble pie. Needless to say we withdrew from the other classes he was registered for. The office has repeatedly ignored my requests to speak to someone about it.

The homework and techniques have been helpful in teaching my dog some foundational work. I believe TCOTC is also a popular location for brining dogs who want to learn agility. I do think the trainers get paid for the classes they lead, but it almost seems like they are all volunteers and there for the love of helping other dogs. I do feel the classes are helpful, but I also think there is some heavy overlap between classes - even though you are told to take some of them in a specific order.

He had already been returned twice before coming into rescue, and the thought of putting him up for adoption and having him experience another return honestly terrified me. Doug was an anxious puppy who lacked confidence, struggled with severe separation anxiety, and was incredibly leash reactive. And when I say reactive, I mean he would lunge up and down like a tiger and was nearly impossible to calm down. As his foster, I became very attached to him. I wanted him to find his forever home, but I was so nervous about adopting him out and having him returned again. He deserved stability, and I couldn't bear the thought of him going through another failed placement. That's when we decided Doug needed more support, and he spent 4 weeks at Northstar Family K9 for their board-and-train program. I'll be completely honest sending him away was HARD. But the team at Northstar made the entire experience so much easier. Milo, Julia, Emma, and Hank made it feel like Doug was at a second home. The daily report cards and videos were amazing. I never felt completely disconnected from him. I could see his progress, know how he was doing, and feel like I was still a part of his journey even while he was away. We also got to go in for training sessions, which I absolutely loved because they weren't just training Doug they were teaching us how to continue working with him when he came home. And the transformation has been incredible. Doug is a completely different dog. He has confidence. He's calmer. He has tools to work through situations that previously overwhelmed him. And most importantly, I now feel confident sending him to his forever home. As a foster, that is everything to me. I don't want to just find a dog a home. I want to feel confident that the home is going to be their forever home especially for a dog who has already experienced the heartbreak of being returned twice. I always get detailed feedback. The staff clearly loves dogs. My dog is a people person and interacts rarely with the other dogs. Which makes the caring staff especially important to us. Although she is anxious, even when medicated, this is the safest place for her. They are aware of her disposition and adapt to give her the best experience possible. The staff consists of highly competent and caring dog people. They are not only skilled at dealing with anxious dogs, but also gifted in dealing with anxious dog owners. Highly recommend.

I found Dog Days during COVID when my Beagle Betty was just a puppy. It started as a place I'd take…read moremy puppy so she could burn energy and I could get work done. But now, Dog Days is Betty's favorite place. It's better than any dog park or walk. I never feel bad leaving her over a weekend for boarding at Dog Days because I know there is no place she'd rather be. She cries when we drive to dog days then sprints in the door! The workers have gotten to know and love Betty. It's great knowing she's in good hands. Betty went in for a trial day before she could go to daycare, they assessed how she played with others and found a good play group for her. They have since moved her to different play groups to fit her needs. I love that owners treat the staff well and pay them a living wage. One last great thing: they post pictures of the dogs playing on Facebook!
