Delightful motel (recently under new management) offers clean, comfortable beds in a picturesque setting. We chatted with the new owners and they live on site and really make an effort to upgrade and keep everything nice. It seems well run and monitored. I was charmed by the unique setting and happy with my comfortable bed.

We LOVED the Ranch motel and will definitely stay here again!! The service is friendly and helpful- both over the phone and in person. The rooms are so cool and the kids loved staying in the loft! Beds were fine- clean and with a soft blanket underneath the typical motel comforter- and the water pressure in the bathroom was nice. The coffee maker in the bathroom is one step up from making instant coffee- but good enough to get one cup in us before finding a place to stop! After a long drive, we made sandwiches at the little table in the "family room" and enjoyed them on the couch while watching TV- perfect road trip dinner!

It is NOT in Oakland, but rather Rice Hill. I was uneasy when I first saw that we appeared to be driving up to a truck stop right off the highway. Once we arrived, I was put at ease. We arrived kind of late (~8pm) and we were glad to hear that they had two "big rooms" still available. Big room is a queen bed downstairs and a queen bed upstairs in a loft style room *very cute* The front desk lady (Donna) was very efficient and assured me that the "big room" was actually cheaper than a standard room with the coupon found online. Not sure what all the rates are, but she was right. A BIG room with tax was $60 *thumbs up* The room is super cute and has a Yosemite Valley Lodge feel to it. It has a flat screen TV (limited direct TV channels), mini fridge and a microwave. Stocked with towels and mini coffee maker but, NO hair dryer. Yes you can hear freeway noise, but we turned on the room fan and it didn't keep us awake *thumbs up* I would stay here again and again on our Highway 5 trips *smiles* Pros: Donna provided OUTSTANDING Customer Service! Right off of Highway 5 (EXIT 148) Full Restaurant and Bar across the parking lot Clean and Comfortable Excellent Value Cons: WiFi is hit/miss (weather dependent) Downstairs bed was fine and comfy, Upstairs bed was stiff as a board Freeway noise (as expected)

Adorable, vintage, and affordable A-frame lodging with incredibly kind and helpful staff. Very clean, one-of-a-kind motel. We look forward to staying again!

This is the most adorable little motel I've ever stayed in! This is not a 5 star hotel, it's not remodeled with amazing new floors and bedding...the phone is from 1980...but it is clean, quaint, and unique!

This is a good little place with nostalgic little A-frame cabins. You get a fridge, microwave, wifi, and a quiet country rest. It may need a touch more maintenance here and there, but it is mostly just fun.

    Very welcoming!!

Steamboat Inn - Don't forget to walk down to the river after dinner

Similarly, the dining was nice but priced way above value. I guess they're the only game in town (or on the river) so they price that way, but I'd rather see pricing correlated to value or service, not just because they are catering to the well-to-do's.

We stayed in one of the Hideaway Cottages, tucked into a peaceful wooded setting just a half mile from the Inn. The cottage was quiet, comfortable, and surrounded by nature, making it the perfect place to unwind after a full day of hiking. After settling in, we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Inn's restaurant. Dining outdoors beside the beautiful North Umpqua River was an unforgettable experience. The setting was absolutely breathtaking, the food was excellent, and the friendly, attentive service made for a relaxing and memorable evening. The only drawback to an otherwise exceptional stay was the complete lack of internet access. We understand that many guests appreciate the opportunity to disconnect from the modern world, and there is certainly something refreshing about being off the grid. However, as hikers exploring the area, we would have appreciated having at least limited Wi-Fi access--perhaps in the registration lobby--so we could download offline trail maps and check hiking conditions before heading out each morning. That small convenience would have made an already wonderful experience nearly perfect. Overall, Steamboat Inn is a beautiful retreat in one of Oregon's most scenic locations. If you're looking for a peaceful getaway surrounded by nature, outstanding dining, and a relaxing atmosphere, this is an excellent choice. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return on a future visit. Mike & Debbie

I loved the Itty Bitty Inn so much!!!…read more This is easily the best motel that I have ever stayed at - or even heard of, for that matter. It is, in fact, so much better than the second-best motel that I don't even know what the second-best motel I've been to is! Not only is the Itty Bitty Inn now a must-stay for me on my next trip up the Oregon Coast, but it is so great that it has dramatically increased the likelihood that I will be driving back up the Coast soon. I'm still shocked that the Lonely Planet guide didn't mention it. Rick (the owner) is the coolest. The first thing that he did was give my friend and I a rundown of Coos Bay hotspots. Then he showed us to our beautifully decorated and upholstered rooms - we had the two Tiki-themed rooms, each of which had too much detail to even be done justice by a picture. He proceeded to then pour us complementary beers and directed us to the outdoor patio for lounging and decompression after our trip. I felt like the King of France! I now absolutely need to stay in every one of the rooms for at least a night (there are 5 total, each with a different theme). This is no trivial feat, as apparently new complete redesigns are always in the planning stages. I can't wait to see the place next time I'm in town!!!
