As far as motels go this is one of my favorites. The comfy bed in room 4 precludes the need for my personal bed roll. The owner is exceptionally geared to customer service. She even left 2 room heaters in the room to make sure we weren't cold. The room was toasty when we arrived. The place inside and out is cutely decorated with owners personal charm. Way better than white walls. The room was clean. Location is on the main road so you get street noise. Water temperature varies in the shower. But all is doable. We will stay here again next time in town. read more

This is the best little motel, ever. I want to go back to Roseburg just to visit this awesome place. So many extras - and so inexpensive. For three moms, our kids, and two weeks of camping behind us, this place was a dream come true. We had a full kitchen, which was perfect for us. I love this hotel. I love the decor. A couple years ago, I stayed at Rose City for an extended period of time. Very reasonable $. I was showing at a craft fair in town. I also had two other friends that came to Roseburg and I recommended Rose City Motel. They both tried calling a few times. They left messages and never received a return call for reservations. I did the same. I called a few times, left messages explaining that I had stayed there before and was attending a craft fair and had friends that wanted to stay there, too. I left my name and phone number. I never received a phone call back or any kind of a message. After I made a reservation at another hotel (no cancellations because it was last minute), I drove by Rose City AND THEIR VACANCY SIGN WAS FLASHING. It broke my heart. I wanted my friends to stay their because I had bragged so much on it. I guess they didn't want to rent the rooms. I know they don't have a computerized system, but they could have at least returned my call. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because of their hospitality on the previous stay. We drove 3 hours to get here to learn that they LOST OUR RESERVATION!! The problem is they put everything on paper and use forms -- nothing is computerized, so of course it got lost. This is just bad business. So they had no record of our reservation and instead of apologizing and offering a discount or freebie, they just shrugged and said, "I don't know what to tell you." Well, I can tell you that we have come here every year for the past FOUR YEARS and pay for TWO rooms for THREE days, and you just lost our business. Do the math... that's a lot of $$$$!! Driving through Oregon, we usually stayed at one of the big chains. This time, we took a chance on Rose City Motel, based on other Yelp reviews. We're glad we did! Our room was very clean, warm, and welcoming. The bed had a soft pillow-topper but was firm enough for good support underneath. The room came with 2 heaters, a mini-fridge, a microwave, a coffee maker, and a huge flatscreen TV. Outside, there's a neat common sitting area in a pretty garden setting, with some outdoor grill equipment. It was cold out so we didn't use it, but it looks like a great place to hang out in warmer weather. All this for only $53. Our only complaint is the relatively early checkout time -- 10 AM -- but they were flexible when we asked if we could check out later, so it's not really a complaint. On future trips, we'll definitely stay here again. read more

This is a very cute place. Very clean and quaint. Also comfortable. I did have to wait at the desk for someone to answer the bell. After waiting 20 minutes, I called the front desk on my cell phone. Finally got my room about 45 minutes later. No big deal, but it was a bit inconvenient. The street was a very busy highway and the very fast traffic kept up most of the evening. Finally got quiet after about 11pm. But then a man with a leaf blower was cleaning off the sidewalk across the street in front of some businesses. At about 11:30 at night!!! Check this out. I've been driving through the northwest with my fiance for two days, 14 hours a day. We get off the freeway in Oregon en route to some random hotel I picked using my GPS. In the town of Rosenburg, I make an illegal U-turn, just as a cop car pulls around the bend. I think he's going to pull me over, but no. He's after two derelicts drag racing through the empty streets at 2am. We pull up to the random motel and it's seriously sketchy. The whole town, in fact has a somewhat sketchy vibe. The motel looks like a place where you could get raped or shanked before turning on the tv. We beeline out of there and see this disarmingly sweet-looking motel on our right. It's charming and has flowerboxes outside the windows. I am skeptical of this motel as it looks... too sweet. My fiance goes in to wake up the owner and pay the $50 for the room. Inside the room was... magical. I felt as though I had been transported into a fable or children's story from yesteryear and was actually in the woodland house of some kind fairy godmother. Antiques prevailed around the room. One of the nightstands was an antique sewing machine from the turn of the century. I have never, in all the years I've been alive, encountered that in a motel, and certainly not in one that cost a mere $50. Hand embroidered linens, antique lace. I fought with my fiance over the remote, but all in all it was a delightful stay. The owners have fastidiously decorated the rooms with love and more importantly, good taste. Anyone who gives this hotel less that five stars certainly lacks some of that. read more

My brother came into town from Eugene with his girlfriend last weekend for our cousins wedding. He has gauges in his ears, and she has tattoos and stuff. Well, they called beforehand to see if there was a room available, and the lady that answered the phone said that there was. So, we brought them over to check in (note that the vacancy light was on). They got out of the vehicle, and were greeted outside by a lady, telling them that there was no room for them. My brother is one of the most respectful people I know, and before he moved to Eugene, he had lived in Roseburg for years. It's ridiculous that, in this day and age, he still faces discrimination simply because he doesn't look up to certain standards. read more

If Granny had a guest cottage, it would look like this! Sweet little room, scrupulously clean, with comfortable beds, nicely equipped kitchen and micro-bathroom (no bathtub, just a single size shower stall, plus toilet and washbasin, of course). Do NOT miss the beautiful garden area--it's a bit hidden away--go to the back right corner of the buildings, and there's a little gate into a flowery paradise with frolicking birds and comfortable chairs, tables, and a big propane BBQ. There's even a rabbit in a hutch! Played some music out there last night, it was very pleasant. I think the rooms are all a little different (one review mentioned a loveseat, but we don't have one--or room for one!--but we do have a full size closet), so if you have particular needs, let 'em know. One caveat: if you're overweight, you might have trouble navigating the bathroom. It was no trouble for me, but in Room #1 my size 14's brushed the wall and basin on either side when passing through the bathroom; if you're a lot bigger than that, might want to ask for a bathroom that's a bit wider. read more

We loved this little gem! Super friendly manager who let us leave our luggage during the day and moved it into our room when it was ready. The rooms all have different themes and ours was the bird room. Loved it! Before we left, she came out and told me that she knew we were from San Jose and to be "careful" because she'd heard there was escaped prisoners and I laughed about it and told her that San Jose was so big and I wasn't worried about it. But low and behold, a few days later one of the escapees was right across the street and everything was blocked off with the swat team, robots, cops everywhere, etc. They got the guy and it was so weird bit made me think of the sweet lady at this Motel. I tried to call her to tell her about it but no one was there. I hope she reads this! read more

I like comfortable and I like money. This place let me have both! I went to Roseburg for the "first annual" Umpqua Hula festival. Best Hawaiian concert in Oregon, EVER. My wife and kids shared a "room". It was more like a studio apartment, with a full kitchen and a loveseat. The room was very clean and it was comfortable as far as motels go. They let us have an air mattress of the kids. There was cable and HBO. The bed was not a hilton dream bed, but I slept just fine. The bathroom was cramped, but clean. I want to stress that this place is CLEAN. The decor is not my favorite, but again, it was cheap and it is a motel. It is probably a great place to stay if you need the ability to cook, like a week of business or so. Thanks for the great stay! read more

This is the place to stay in Roseburg! Found it on Yelp and fell in love as soon as we drove in! Price was right too - little over $50/night. There are several restaurants within walking distance and a CVS pharmacy. Owners were very nice - gave us an excellent restaurant recommendation. It can be a real PITA to find a place to stay between Redding and Portland. Lots of crappy and expensive chain hotels and an equal number of moldy oldies. This place is neither and will now be my regular stop when I'm headed to Portland. read more

For the money, under $60, this place is a complete gem. It really does, as some reviewers have said, feel like going to stay at your favorite aunt's house. Our room, #1, even had a full size kitchen! The exterior of the place is just adorable. The owner said she spends about two hours a day just taking care of the flowers that are blooming everywhere. And there is a great little garden in the back that is worth a stop in itself. Plus bunnies! Very comfortable bed, and the room was super clean and tidy. She even has little shampoo and soaps like the chain hotels, plus a full-size hair dryer. Okay, so here are the negatives. 1) It's smack dab on a seriously busy road so road noise can be a bit of an issue. Ear plugs always solve that for me -- never leave home without them. 2) Our room was a bit crowded with two queen beds. This wasn't a big deal but one of the beds completely blocked the airflow from the air conditioning unit. 3) The bathroom is seriously cramped. I think a moderately large person might have a difficult time using the toilet. Other rooms might have a different layout. It would be worth checking if you're going to be in the area. read more

We are currently guests. We have been here about a month. There are two couples and a baby. Mikey has gone out of her way to make us feel like we are at home. She is the hardest working woman I have ever seen. Seven days a week. The hidden garden is like an oasis. If not for a move to Washington, we would probably never leave. I chose this motel based on Yelp ratings and wasn't disappointed. I'm usually a hotel snob and do not mind spending extra $$$ to stay somewhere comfortable and clean. Rose City Motel met both of those. Another Yelper said it was like staying in grandma's cottage and they hit the nail on the head. Even so, the carpets are new, everything is super clean, and the beds are comfortable. The manager was very nice and helpful. The outside grotto area is a shady wonderland of ivy and country folk art. Best of all, I got two rooms for the price I normally pay for one at a chain hotel. We found this place on yelp and, based on all the wonderful reviews along with a steal of a deal, we booked a room for a single night in Roseburg. Rose City Motel is on a major thoroughfare in Roseburg so it was a piece of cake to find. The owner was very nice and check-in was a breeze. She gave us a room in the back (#4) and it was clean with no odors like some hotel rooms. The decor is very Laura Ashley meets Little House on the Prairie but we were expecting something akin to this based on the reviews we'd read. King size bed, two end tables, alarm clock, TV on a nice stand, along with a desk, two comfy chairs for relaxing and a small table rounded out the place. They also offer soap, shampoo and conditioner and a hairdryer so it really is everything you'd get at a Motel 6. The bed was comfortable and the towels are a giant step up from the sandpaper you'll find at a Motel 6/Shilo Inn/Super 8. There were only three small negatives to our stay. First, the traffic noise is more than we were used to so if you're sensitive to that, please request a room along the back, farthest from the street. Second, the showerhead is pretty pitiful (super-low-flow). To make up for the lack of water, I found I took a longer than normal shower in order to completely wash and rinse. Third, the room lacks a built-in heater so they have an electric oil radiator style heater. Even with the bathroom and closet doors closed, we never did get that room warm enough during the night. Maybe the owner could have helped us but we didn't bother to ask her. But, after considering these issues, we'd still return for another stay at the Rose City Motel! We're just planning a trip in the summer when we won't have to worry about staying warm! read more

How often do you get a motel room that makes you feel you are visiting your nice older relatives. Our room had a colorful tiffany lamp, a sculpture made from a toilet seat, floral wallpaper. The bed was large and comfortable. The wireless internet connection was good. The motel was very clean and quiet. Parking is a bit cramped but we got outa there with no dents. After tax it was around $55.00 - not bad for March 2012. After noticing some of the decrepit motels around Roseburg, I was sure glad to have found this one. Too bad we could have it for only one night. The weekends were already booked up - it's more popular than other places in its price range - and no wonder! read more

Wow! We were lucky to get a room since we called the night before. But what a great place. The owners have gone to great lengths to redecorate each room. I can't imagine them being this nice even when new. The garden sitting area out back is gorgeous and has a gas grill for guests' use. We grilled our dinner and sat and sipped wine. This place has more charm than any chain motel/hotel and only $49/nite. We will return again when passing this way. read more

Small, safe, clean, comfy, cheap, and cute. Small local motels can be kind of scary, but I really hate paying a bunch for an average chain like Best Western or Holiday Inn Express. Rose City Motel is a locally owned, extremely cute, safe and clean place to stay in Roseburg. I was traveling along and yet I felt safe and comfortable in this little motel, with rooms reminiscent of a bed and breakfast. The rooms are small but comfortable and clean. I wouldn't recommend it for a bachelor party, but the flowers, ruffles, free wi-fi, fridge, microwave, hairdryer, coffee pot, ironing board and antique furniture were perfect for me. Oh, and did I mention that this place was less than half of the price that Holiday Inn Express was charging? I'll be staying here again! read more

This is the best kept secret in Roseburg! It was spotlessly clean, and cute too. Loved having a full kitchen available too as I always have a cooler with me to lug into the room. This place is an absolute HIDDEN GEM!!! Not only are their rates incredibly reasonable, but the rooms are cozy and quaint! The owners of this place obviously put a lot of time and effort into designing and maintaining each room. Our room had a full kitchen with dishes, silverware, glasses, mugs, a crock pot!, and other details we didn't even use. After 3 weeks on the road, staying at large and small hotels, chains and independents, we were lucky enough to find a "room" at the Rose City Motel. What a breath of fresh air. Flowers abound in front of all the rooms and in the garden foe all the guests to enjoy. Our "room". Has a full kitchen, small living room w/flat screen TV and a separate bedroom. The place is spotless and the garden area (complete with bunnies in thei hutch) is so serene. All this within a 3-5 min drive of the town center for $66/night on a Friday! I found this on Yelp and am in Room 2 with my wife as I type. Cost me $60 and well worth it. I don't have to worry about banging my head as I get off the pot as the shower is directly across from it. That room is 4.5x7 feet plus the shower stall. Pretty small, but doable and I'm not a small guy. Nice furnishings, queen bed and two straight back chairs. A 32" flat screen and free wi-fi, small fridge, microwave and coffeemaker. Hot tub and pool? Who needs them for a one night stay? I'll check out the gazebo and garden in the morning. Definite road noise, but acceptable. Trying to leave the parking lot requires attention and that is the only negative. We'll be back. read more
