The wushu is pretty good and I managed to eat it without getting the pork sung stuck in my teeth, which for those who are familiar with he shredded pork know is no mean feat. I do feel like the actual sausage though needs some work. It's got snap but not the good snap you get from grilling. More like the snap you get from not boiling it quite long enough. I also think we could do better on the bread. What if you could use the bread that a lot of japanese bread shops use or the chinese kind from the baked (not steamed) pork buns. Right now, the combo price (which includes a hot dog and one of their iced teas) is $5, which is a pretty sweet deal for broke college students like me. I like their tranquili-tea, which is a mango green iced tea. Really subtle mango flavor but it's really refreshing and delicious! I tried their Ninjitsu hot dog- which has seaweed, cabbage, and teriyaki sauce. It reminds me of a spam musubi, which I enjoy as well, and it's now in hot dog form! Might be in the minority here but I MUCH preferred the Ninjitsu (seaweed, teriyaki sauce, Japanese mayo) over the Wushu ( pork sung, katsu sauce, Japanese mayo). Something about the intense sweetness/ savoriness of the pork sung compounded with similar favors in the sauces and the meat makes for an uber-salty/sweet hotdog. In any case, the idea of an Asian-style hotdog is interesting and unique and the truck itself is adorable! I do think that the hotdogs on a whole could benefit from some neutral veggies like thinly sliced raw cabbage or something, just because all of the competing flavors are really strong and the bun doesn't quite balance everything out. For those that don't know, the Tranquilitea is an AMAZING mix of mango green tea, topped with a sprig of mint. Perfect for those hot August days! But more importantly, food! I've tried a few of their Dojo Dogs and I have to say that my favorite is the Ninjitsu. tried this place because these fools were hella troll on sproul. they were giving out free samples of Dojo Dog's mango jasmine green ice tea drink (which is actually refreshing and delicious, i really liked it.) the dude there at the table was just full of surprises, first offering me a FREE dojo dog flyer and then when I was about to leave he was like WAIT. DO YOU WANT A DISCOUNT AT DOJO DOG...FOREVER? so i filled out a short survey and they signed me up for dojo dog elite. with the flyer and the v.i.p. sticker they gave me i got the ninjitsu dog with the free full sized drink for 4.25. the hot dog was kind of messy because of all the sauce they put on top of it but i was really surprised on how delicious it was. I would have never thought to top a hot dog with seaweed, sweet mayo and terriyaki. and i really liked that the hot dog was wrapped in a crispy hoagie rather than just a bun. it was really creative twist and for 4.25 for a hot dog and drink, i'd come here everyday. read more

Shaolin Monk Style -- instead of a french hoagie roll, the hotdog is wrapped in roasted seaweed wrap. Yum! This adds a crunchy texture and roasted flavor to the meal, which is a nice difference against eating the usual carbs. I've tried the Wushu and Kendo on the hoagie roll as well--I like the asian fusion flavor combinations, though my only gripe is that I want enough of these toppings to accompany the dog in every bite. First got dojo dog when I tried one of their samples on Sproul. I ordered the Ninjitsu (cuz I love seaweed), and I thought it was really good. The seaweed and the sauce adds a really unique taste to it, so it definitely isnt like a regular hot dog. I'd come back here again, even though I dont usually eat hot dogs. The toppings they add were good enough to make me crave this like every other day. I highly recommend the tea also..super refreshing especially for hot summer days. read more

Dojo Dog has an intriguing concept that is poorly executed. Their hot dogs are nothing more than a sausage topped with tens of Asian-style condiments. Nothing seems to be cooked except the sausage itself (and my guess would be that their sausages are not house-made). On top of this, one hot dog costs around $5, which one could spend on a full sandwich or pizza for lunch instead of just a hot dog. Their service is also below par. Last time I went, they had no way of keeping track of orders, so customers had no way of knowing when their orders would be completed. It shouldn't be difficult to assign numbers to customers, and I'm disappointed that they haven't done that. Instead of coming here, I would take my money and buy a Top Dog instead. read more

I personally like the hot dogs here. They look exactly like the pictures and are of a decent size. The bread is soft, but at the same time, sturdy enough to hold the hot dog,which tastes juicy. A lot of people i know are hesitant about trying the hot dog with the fish flake topping (kendo). It is kinda salty, but with the bread it balances out as a whole. I also got the tranquilitea because the combo is only 5 bucks (6 for with one of the other hot dogs)! I basically never eat hot dogs... but Dojo Dog is so good! I haven't had a hot dog in years, but I stopped by to try samples and it was love at first bite. In my opinion it is far better than Barney's which seems overpriced at ~$9 for a sausage, bun, and fries. The ingredients go well together in a unique combination, and the bun is toasted to the perfect ratio of crunchiness and fluffiness. They have a seaweed/lettuce wrap option, and I wish they had a whole wheat option too (but I don't know if anyone besides me would get it...) $5 is cheaper than a bulgogi sandwich. If it were ~$4 I'd be going here way more instead of eating my healthy fruit salad lunches. So in conclusion, the pricing is good. read more

Since my friend Serena S. has reviewed this, I shall too. I bought my first dojo dog for late lunch during ASUC elections campaigning. It was an extremely hot day (there was another DD test run after the one I am reviewing on upper Sproul plaza by Ludwig's Fountain but it rained and I just bought food when I left the GBC). The BBQ grill was setup in lower Sproul plaza directly in front of the outdoor seating of the bears lair food court. I went later in the afternoon and my co-campaign manager recommended the Bruce Lee, but the guy in front of me bought the last one. The only remaining choice out of the three on sale was the tae kwon dog. I didn't think that the fish flakes would go well with a hot dog and bun. It came with a can of Coca Cola or Sprite for around $5. The wait isn't really bad since it's cooked right in front of you. Since it was a test run, ingredients weren't fully stocked to handle everyone hence the shortage of hot dogs. The fish flakes surprisingly didn't affect the taste of the hot dog as well. It was more of a hint of flavor contrast from the sweet hot dog and sauce. I hope more test runs surface in the next school year with more options and varieties, while keeping costs low for students' budgets. A suggestion I have, especially for hot days, is to swap the lame high-fructose corn syrup sodas to: -natural cane sugar Hansen's drinks from Trader Joe's or Costco -aloe vera drinks -grass jelly drinks Good luck and keep it up BAP! read more

We ran into this near the slather gates- what an awesome foodtruck. We tried the Wushu- which has a really dry pork topping (like a freeze dried shredded pork). I admit I wasn't a fan of it but all the other toppings still made it a great dog. It had cabbage, japanese mayo, and katsu sauce. The dogs are amazing- really flavorful and they snap. Ten times better than top dog hot dogs. The bun was great too. Their tea was so freaking amazing delicious- jasmine mango I think. They're super into technology... if you like them on facebook and tell them, they give you a sticker so your hot dogs are now 3.60 (I think) instead of $4.60. When we liked them we saw if we shared their video we could get a free tea. Good dogs and freebies/ discounts that's a win in my book. The guy who helped us was super nice. There was an older woman who seemed a bit confused by everything... he gave her the discount price after telling her to make sure she liked them on facebook and literally got out of the truck to walk her hot dog to her since she was sitting down nearby. He spent some time talking to her about the hot dog and told him to let her know if she wasn't happy with it. He was really nice to us too. Great customer service is always an added plus. Don't know how there are so many five star ratings on here, but Dojo Dog is definitely good - solid three (and a half) stars, but I'll round it up to four since the workers are nice and friendly and it's a budding venture. I like the Wushu dog a lot - it's filling and tasty. The toppings make it worth the price, which is only around $4 if you're a Dojo Dog VIP (all you have to do is like them on Facebook). I had a Shaolin Monk dog once (don't remember the kind) and I definitely would not recommend it. It was super salty, unfilling, and expensive for having no bread and just seaweed. Last but not least, get the mango jasmine tea! For $1.15 it's super cheap (don't know how long that price will last) and it's yummy, a solid mango tea with a hint of jasmine (might be too sweet, depending on the day). I wish service were faster - again, the people are friendly but during opening week they were so slow both with dealing money and getting the food out quickly. They've gotten better but it feels like they cook one dog at a time - not very efficient. read more

Friendly service every time I've been there. Dojo Dog makes life easy when you're a college student tired of GBC, Crossroads, and Cafe 3. It's not as pricey as other places -- heyo, Chipotle -- and tastes twice as good. Plus, it's located right on campus.
