    Telegraph Avenue in Oakland!

Casper's famous hot dogs have been around since 1934. They are well known in Oakland for their soft buns and that crunch you get when you bite into the hotdog. This is definitely "Town Bizness". We use to come for lunch when I attended Oakland Technical High School, that's located within a mile. Casper hot dogs can't be beaten. It's just as the slogan says "Imitated But Never Duplicated".

Got the chili cheese dog n wife got a sour kraut dog. Price is right, what you'd expect from an old school hot dog spot.

I love Casper Hot Dogs! Friendly atmosphere and staff! The Cajun Link and Chili Cheese Casper Dogs are delicious!

    Classic signage

Always a warm welcome back to Oakland from caspers (sic)- sliced tomato a classic local addition (see also Kasper's) that really works. Kraut dog gets the nod over the pickle dog (slightly) as the size of the spears makes eating it slightly awkward. Steady stream of custys on a weekend afternoon = good turnover, fresh dogs.

Always good for a steamed hot dog and a bag of chips. Pickle Dog today instead of my usual Famous Casper Hot Dog. No milk Shakes available these days

A true East Coast style hot dog. Been around for years. No changes except the prices, of course.

Juicy, saucy, cheesy, just the right size. Definitely satisfying. It came with fries on the side (or an upcharge for garlic fries, cheese fries, bacon, salad, etc.), which were pretty standard in quality and taste, nothing special but not bad. The shake was thick, in fact I had to wait for it to melt a little before I could even drink it. And they made me the wrong milkshake. It was chocolate and banana flavored. Don't get me wrong, I like banana, but it's not what I ordered. I was already home when I noticed the error, so I just drank what they gave me. Though I got my order to go, the outdoor setting at the eatery was inviting and had a lot of character, with plenty of spaced out seating for enjoying a meal on site. Free and easy street parking too, on a Saturday evening.

However this location, they are a pro at dipping ice cream cones in melted chocolate. We both ordered a regular sized chocolate soft serve with chocolate dip. Chocolate on chocolate is the best combo. It was the best dessert. I wish they had this chocolate dip at the location in Concord which is closer to me. This location is a lot louder because of the high ceilings and it's also connected to the Emeryville food court. It's not as cozy as some Super Dupers that I've been at in Mill Valley and Concord. The grilled onions in my burger was supposed to be caramelized but was more on the raw side. The additional mushrooms that I paid for were basically two slivers of mushroom. The cook at this restaurant needs to learn how to make caramelized onions and to put an adequate amount of whatever people pay extra for. The burger came out very lopsided and looked and tasted like a salad and not a burger. I've been eating veggie burgers for a decade now so this is definitely the least cooked veggie burger at a Super Duper. Also the bun was burnt and was blackened on the edges. Thank God for the hand-dipped ice cream cone because that was really what saved the day for me.

I called in advance and when I arrived I was simply watching the penalty kicks of the World Cup on my phone. As I waited to be acknowledged, someone walked off the street and shoved a phone near her face and I retorted that I was waiting to be acknowledged. Rather than apologizing she claimed that she did try to get my attention, which is either a lie or a very strange and poor way of communicating with people. I will bring to your attention, she is Latino, the gentleman walking in spoke Spanish and I'm African-American. Neither of this should be an issue, however there is a history in this country of people ignoring Black people, let alone in the Bay Area. I tried explaining how I felt and the cashier continued talking over me and claiming that she's doing her job, which for some reason appears to be ignoring me, a paying customer. It's fine, I'm leaving this review regarding the situation of which I have never experienced. Shameful

There's no parking lot so street parking is your best friend, keep in mind Berkeley is notorious for giving out parking tickets so keep an eye out on the meters or 2 hour parking signs. They have a nice outdoor seating area with a big patch of grass as well as some seating inside. You order outside and pick up your food when the pager they give you, goes off. I highly recommend their milkshakes. I went mango and the guy was nice enough to tell me and get me extra mango, free of charge because otherwise it's just a mild mango. Thank you for that suggestion. Also quick tip, if you are lactose intolerant, get their non dairy option and it will taste the same as a regular milkshake. It's really good. No matter what you get, you can't really go wrong. You can just tell by the line they have out the door. The parking lot is clean in a way that feels intentional, as if someone cared enough to reset the space overnight. The sun reflects off the windows without accusation. You pull in and feel, briefly, that things might be in order. Inside, the employees smile, and not the trained, defensive smile of obligation, but the open kind that risks sincerity. Juanita greets me as though my arrival matters, asks how my morning is going so far, and waits for the answer. This alone feels almost excessive. Her delight is unguarded, and in it there is a quiet suggestion that work does not have to erase the person doing it. Conversation flows easily, a few seconds of shared presence that asks for nothing more than attention. The space itself hums with brightness. Not sterile, not overproduced, but clean and awake. Tables wiped, floors swept, the air carrying the faint promise of coffee and something savory. It feels like a place prepared for people, not merely for transactions. In a small way, this matters. Then there is the steak egg and cheese bagel sandwich, which deserves more reverence than it usually receives. It arrives warm, substantial, almost improbably generous. The bagel is soft but grounded, the steak rich without being aggressive, the egg folded neatly like a quiet affirmation. Melted cheese binds everything together with a patience that feels practiced. Eating it is not hurried. It invites attention. It rewards it. There is something quietly Eucharistic about the act, though no one announces it as such. Ordinary food, taken seriously, becomes more than fuel. It becomes a moment of gratitude disguised as breakfast. You sit, you eat, you are sustained. Nothing mystical is forced upon you, yet something is given. The sandwich does not transcend its ingredients, but it gathers them into something whole. This McDonald's does not pretend to be salvation. It offers something smaller and more attainable: a morning that works. A place where light fills the room, where people speak kindly, where food tastes like care rather than compromise. You leave unburdened, not because your problems have vanished, but because for a short while the world did not resist you. Driving away, the day feels possible. Not perfect. Possible. And sometimes that is more than enough.

Whenever I'm in search of something good to eat in the Bay Area I always check TikTok first. My search directed me to Southside Station! It's a small quaint establishment with a very quiet vibe. When I entered, there was a table of three gentlemen sitting there enjoying their selections. I checked in with them and got suggestions on what I should order. They made a recommendation, but I chose something totally different. I ordered the wings and garlic noodles with a side of brussels sprouts. This place is known for their fried chicken because it's so extra crunchy. They definitely did deliver on the crunch and the flavor. The garlic noodles were very garlic, which is what I liked, and the brussels sprouts were sautéed in a honey glaze. I decided to enjoy my food inside the restaurant as opposed to sitting outside where they have two tables set up. The young lady that took my order was ever so sweet and kind. She was the only one I saw in the restaurant behind the counter, but there may have been others working further in the back. There was an error on my order and she was quick to correct the error with an apology and a smile. The portion size was decent. I ended up taking home leftovers.
