There are meatballs and their marinara are really good. I think their pasta dishes are way overpriced. In terms of sodas. They don't have a fountain so they charge by the can and it's way overpriced at over three dollars a can with no refills. Their desserts are kind of high, but everybody's desserts are high and their lemon cello cake is superb.Americano coffee is superb. Bread that they offer you for free and butter is really superb. Service is hit or miss because the male waiters tend to have a really snobby attitude. But Julia is really nice. read more

Really great classic Italian menu. We've been here a few times with different folks and as soon as you walk in the door you feel like a guest in their home. The food itself is authentic, and is quite good, the wine selection is nice, and the service is terrific. The only complaint was that it seemed a bit loud to some of us, but the service, wine and food will bring us back for sure. read more

From top to bottom an excellent experience. We have lived in Sarasota for three years and are disappointed it took us this long to find this gem. We are originally from RI which is chock full of excellent Italian restaurants. We have found a lot of good, solid Italian restaurants in this area but none that compare to the best that we had in RI. That is until now. We went to Dolce Italia last night and loved it so much we are taking my parents there tonight. It was that good. We had mussels, lasagne, bolognese, and I don't remember the name of my wife's dish but she loved it as well. The tasty food was accompanied by some great wine and outstanding service. The servers couldn't have been friendlier and the pacing of our food service was perfect. It's a small place so be sure to make a reservation and prepare to have a wonderful experience. read more

This was our first trip to this restaurant. Highly recommend! The owner Matthew, was very accommodating to our family and was able to seat us, even though we did not have reservations. First time trying Dolce while on vacation. We made a same-day reservation for 8:00pm which was perfect after a long day at the beach. We arrived a little early, and were greeted by the owner and chef, Tiziana. We quickly sat down and received a run down of the evenings specials. We went with a shared appetizer of Pesto Balls that were EXCELLENT. Main course consisted of 2 lasagna orders, 1 spaghetti and meatballs, and 1 order of gnocchi with homemade red sauce. We couldn't get enough! The food was so rich with generous portions. Having married into an Italian family, I am critical of any Italian food but this was legit! Came for dinner on a Friday night last week with reservation. The staff was very friendly, including the owner/chef. There were specials which we have never had before and their regular entrees also sound very good. They also have a good selection of wines. Our dinner was very good, both homemade pasta dishes. We also had burata as a starter and that was just so-so. Service was very good. My only real issue was the table where they sat us at. It's right by the door with very little space to move, with all kinds of junk right next to it. This should not have been made a into a table space. Since they did make it a 2 person table, they should at least removed the junks around it. I think every customer deserves to be made feel like they are wanted there, not making you feel like you're just an afterthought. It's a shame that this experience overshadows the positive things about this place. Don't be complacent. Always strive to be better in all aspects of your business. read more

Intimate setting - almost like you are teleported into Ischia, the little island in Italy the owner is from. She arrived 8 years ago and loves Sarasota (good for us!!) Several of the dishes were handmade pasta. We had eggplant and caesar salad appetizer - both very good. The crowning glory were the entrees. Both couples had pasta dishes - we had the seafood and linguine - delicate tomato cream sauce (not too heavy), with chunks of shrimp, scallops and conch. Our friends had the homemade pasta with seafood stuffing, which they also loved. Wine special was an added bonus - Montepulciano and Sangiovese blend - delicious! This restaurant is hands down my favorite in Sarasota. My parents go here almost once a week as does my other family members who live down here - yes it's that good. Located in a little strip plaza it's a tiny little place with about 8ish tables. Make a reservation because it can get crowded on the weekends. It has a homey feel inside and is casual. The best part of this place (besides the food) are the people who work here. The owners are an absolutely lovely couple from Italy and she does the cooking. They are so friendly and always talk to the customers and since we are regulars they always come over and chat which I love. They are the nicest people. The server who is always working is a young guy who is hilarious and fun. It's such a friendly place to dine at and totally not pretentious like some places can be. You really feel at home. Now to the food! There are several specials every night and I have to say I always get a special, although the menu items look good too! They have several pasta items and all the pastas are from scratch hand made, no box junk here! My mother swears by the pasta special with the seafood and I always get the triangle noodle special with the buffalo mozzarella, mushrooms and tomatoes with a touch of cream. It's honestly the best pasta dish I've ever had! Other dining companions have gotten risotto, eggplant dishes etc and everything has been outstanding! There are also several appetizers and outstanding desserts and they also have beer and wine but no liquor. Prices are totally fair for the quality of the food, and are around $20 a plate.
