What started out as a miserable experience because the sky train was out of order at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport turned around quickly when we met Martina at the counter for Dollar Car Rental. My husband and I first had to wait for a bus to take us to the rental car center but after about 45 minutes in a slow-moving line the employees said the sky train was working again. Already an hour behind our schedule we approached the DollarCar Rental/Thrifty Car Rental counter and there were about 20 people in line, but luckily there were also about 10 agents working so we only waited in line at Dollar counter for about 5-10 minutes. When we got to the counter we met the extremely friendly and knowledgeable, Martina. She found our account quickly and processed our rental while also informing us about all the options available to us. She was pleasant and chatted with us about football. She had a smile on her face the entire time, so she put smiles back on our faces as well. After leaving the counter we quickly found the row for standard cars and were told to choose any car in that row. There were 4 or 5 cars, although one said "no key," on the windshield. We chose a shiny newer model black Nissan Altima and were on a way in a matter of minutes. The car is fully equipped with a tech. package so we are happy with our experience at Dollar. Update: return couldn't have been easier.....in and out in 5 minutes, plus we had cheerleaders directing us where to go! read more

Really long line and only 2 workers, not to mention the 2 workers are extremely SLOW!

I waited in line almost an hour to pick up the car, which is an absolute disgrace. I had done the online check-in the day before, uploaded my driver's license, etc., but it made no difference in my wait time. Trying to charge extra for expedited car pick up is inexcusable - no other car rental companies do that. That wait time is a complete waste of everyone's time and resources. I rent cars all of the time so I decided tO try this place despite of the bad reviews . Let's just say that the reviews were right. Everything was fine up until I extended my rental for one day. I couldn't contact anyone from Dollar , when I finally did she said to extent it is $150 per day. My rental agreement said $33.00 a day. Then when I returned the car, my charge went from $170 to $$235. That wasn't correct, because I only extended it for one day which was supposed to be $33. Do not rent from Dollar Car Rental at the Atlanta airport. We booked a couple months in advance through Expedia. We prepaid and were confirmed for a rental car. When I arrived at Dollar after my flight (which arrived at 12:30 AM), Dollar said they had no more cars left. After phone calls and cancellations, I had to find another rental company at 2:00 in the morning! To make matters worse, Dollar did not want to give us a full refund, even though it was their fault when they failed to honor our prepaid reservation. I think this is a racket. I got up to the counter quickly, the guy was very cordial, asked me how I was, walked through sign in, made small talk and didn't seem like a robot like so many counter people do. I reserved an economy car for ATL through the Southwest Airlines app on Saturday April 23, 2022 to pick up on Friday April 29, 2022. After waiting in line at ATL one hour and forty five minutes, we were told that our reservation didn't mean ANYTHING! We had to wait 1-1 1/2 hours for a car! As far as I can tell, they have no cars at this location, but they somehow profit from taking reservations and asking people to wait for "up to an hour." Two hours later I realized that I was only in town for the weekend and the wait would never end. They gave the excuse that there were plenty of cars, but they couldn't give them out until they were cleaned. Then they gave me a card for their 'compliance officer'--he's much too much of a coward to answer his phone or return a phone call. It is their responsibility to get a car from another service and pay the difference, but they won't do a damn thing for their customers once you sign all the contracts. There must have been about fifty people waiting by the time I gave up and went to enterprise, just a couple of desks over and totally professional. No waiting at all. read more

It seems as though a lot of people either had serious problems renting a car from here, or....they just like to give out 1 star reviews for even the littlest inconvenience getting on their nerves. So, I guess....I consider myself one of the lucky ones this go around. Because I always remember back to my last visit to ATL and subsequently realize that things could always be worse. At least here, I'm renting from a well known, well established, legitimate business. Honestly, the longest part of everything was (of course) car pick up. It was approximately 7:30 something in the evening. The line was fairly long, but nothing close to like, "Disney World theme park" long. Good thing is...one of the clerks at the desk instructed folks to only have one person per rental in line. In other words, they wanted to mitigate having other living creatures (family members, friends, your goldfish, whatever) standing in line with you, ostensibly making the line appear longer than it actually was. Much to my surprise, this helped. I'd say I was in and out of that line around 30ish minutes or so. Which, again, isn't short, but....it ain't two hours either! The rates are fair and the $200 temp charge still applies here. Don't worry though. You'll promptly get that back, provided you managed not to wreck the vehicle in a 10+ car pile up on the highway or something. Okay. I'll say this again....since it seems to be common practice for folks to pay with anything other than this: use your credit card when renting a car. Trust me. You'll be thankful later. Long story, short: this protects you. In the event you need to dispute a charge, it's way easier to do so when using a credit card. Because if you use a debit card, you're paying in cash. Once it's charged, the money is gone (sort of). All this means is you have to work twice as hard to dispute charges from a debit rental as opposed to a credit rental. This concludes my PSA and thank you for attending my Ted Talk. One thing that hasn't changed with ANY of these places is how cars are issued. Ya see, they have this slightly random process which resembles that of "Car Bingo" for rentals. Basically, you stand in one of however many lines there are at the time, according to what type of car you requested (compact, full size, whatever). I have no idea what the order of merit is. I have no idea how these car lenders decide who's next, where the cars are pulled from, and why it takes so long to get them. All I know is this part took another 30 minutes or so. Another dude in line asked me if this is normal, to which I sheepishly replied, "...Yeah." Also, the signs leading you to Dollar or whichever company you're giving your money to....are misleading as hell. They may as well not even be there, because half the customers ended up wandering towards the exits where THERE ARE NO CARS. But...can you blame them? The sign told them to walk into parking lot oblivion. Btw, the employees don't really wear uniforms. Just white collared shirts (the polos, not the button up). So, unless they identify themselves ahead of time, you'll assume they are other customers. Oh, if you're curious about the selection of cars, it's about what you'd expect from Dollar--nothing even remotely glamorous or up to date. Pretty sure the car I had (which was a freakin' Impala. yeah) didn't even have its own GPS. But it DID have Apple Car Play, so I was fine. Turn in was easy. Simply pull up, follow the signs, remove all your personal items, and definitely be sure to leave the key inside the car where they can find it easily. If all goes well...your $200 deposit is refunded not long after. I can appreciate a place that is straightforward, even if some of the practices are a bit....strange and/or misleading. Mostly though, I'm just relieved not to wait 2+ hours just to get a set of wheels at the end of the day. Some people say to never say "never" but I will "NEVER" rent from Dollar again. I would rather walk everywhere with luggage. The desk didn't even have the authority to change a card on file. After being in line for over an hour (because the online check in was not working) when I finally got to the counter they couldn't help me so then I had to call and be on hold for another 30 mins to make a simple change that should have been available to do at the desk. Then I had to wait another 30-45 mins just to get the car that was supposed to be "reserved". The ONLY splice was that the person at the counter didn't have an attitude to make the experience worse. read more

This review is not for this location specifically. This review is for Dollar the company. there is absolutely a complete absence of any sort of customer service. Pray that you have no problems because if you do, they will not help you. To add, I received very rude responses that were highly unprofessional, and even after being proactive and diligent reporting issues with a vehicle that was allocated to me. Only one representative was helpful in the very beginning who told me she notated my account and that after my rental was over that I would be compensated for a defective vehicle. I spoke to another representative who confirmed that they saw the notation and had instructed me to report this onto the website and also guaranteed compensation. After doing so, I waited over a week to get a response, saying that they were not going to assist and that there was no notation. It's highly convenient that they make it so that there is nowhere for you to call and no one for you to speak to. I am escalating this matter to another email address and hoping that there is a resolution, but I am also reporting this whole interaction and contacting my credit card provider to make sure that they also have eyes on the situation. The line to check in and get a car literally took ONE HOUR. They kind of trick you into buying the Basic coverage, not explaining that it costs extra. They make it seem like "Basic" is included in the regular car rental, and we didn't find out that it cost extra until we paid and got our receipt. Our friend, booking with another agent at the same time, fell for this as well! We both had to get it refunded. When we arrived at the lot, there was no one available to help. Soon there were lots of confused people waiting in the lot, not knowing what to do. Our car had mechanical trouble (which we noticed right away in the lot) and we had to get it switched. It didn't seem like the staff were taking it seriously (as if we had rejected it just from preference) and it seemed like they would have let someone else drive away with that car after us. Of course I'm not sure about that, though, but they did NOT say anything reassuring like, "We're so sorry, we'll make sure that goes to the mechanic" or similar. read more

I booked a rental car through a third-party company called Wisecars, they ended up getting me a reservation with this company. I was nervous when I went to their Yelp and discovered they only majority one star ratings. I had to wait over an hour for my rental car along with the dozens of other people that were sitting along the wall, mind you it was not a holiday, and it was a weekday when I arrived. Also, when I went to return my car, the lane was backed up for returning reservation cars, the whole garage was full with cars that they hadn't processed yet. Also, I booked insurance through Wisecars but it wasn't recognized and I had to pay $50 for extra insurance through this company because they require liability at minimum. But I will say I got a 2024 car and it was lovely. it only had 50 miles on it and it was probably the best rental vehicle I've ever had. read more

The person at the front desk, Erazelle was extremely rude and not helpful at all. I am a member at DOLLAR and it didn't matter. When I asked to speak to a manager, Brianna the manager came out and was just as rude and unhelpful...even to a DOLLAR member. I had new expenses now due to my car not being available, so I disputed the price with my bank. The bank did not pay for the lost day and Dollar gave me a new bill for it. She printed me a receipt and I was on my way to catch my flight. Two days later I receive an email that I have been charged an additional $250 for "lost keys" and $50 for "towing". It is impossible to reach a human being on any of Dollar's phone numbers and I've submitted to requests on their site (both promising response within three days). I ordered Uber rental and I was sent to dollar. I was in line with angry customers. The line was so long, it took 1.5 hours to get to the desk. I got a rental car from Dollar Car Rental Airport. I chose the option to replenish all the fuel with a full tank of gas. When I returned the car, only the e-return option was available. I, and others before and after me parked the cars in the lanes and left. No attendant was around. A few days later I got a charged for $38 on my credit card for a refueling fee. I had filled the tank at a station less than 3 miles from the Atlanta Airport.
