Never went there. Went to Enterprise after I place an appointment to rent a car & when I got to the airport they would not take my debit card unless I had a return flight. The lady told me to go to Hertz which told me if I lived here they would not use my debit card. read more

This was by far the worst car rental experience I have ever had. The vehicle was fine, but the agent who checked us in, Rachel, was extremely condescending and hostile. She made a very simple situation into a complete mess that affected my family's entire weekend. Further to this, she actually threatened to cancel our reservation when I pushed back against her condescending attitude. Rachel actually pushed our paperwork and IDs right back at us, causing my daughter to cry more than she already was. Rachel made my wife beg her not to cancel the reservation. I would have simply taken my business elsewhere if we weren't already dealing with so many things at once, but we were forced to actually beg this hostile woman not to ruin our daughter's first road trip. My wife and I talked repeatedly about how much Rachel affected our entire experience, and her actions definitely had a ripple effect for us throughout that entire day. Our two year old daughter even mentioned "the bad lady" a few times unprompted from us. I can't say I will ever want to rent from Dollar again after this horrible experience. This is but far the worst rental company I have ever rented from. From the moment we landed they were rude. When renting the car the lady at the front desk handed me the paperwork, my husband's ID and I even sighed the insurance documents and she snapped at me when I put my hand out for the keys. She had literally handed me everything prior to that. Then when we walked out to the car it had a burm of snow behind it. It was covered in snow and ice. After warming it up and scraping it off we tried to back out it got high centered. We knew this would happen but after they were so rude we were going to try and push it out while baking it. (Yes I said push it out. That's how poorly the cars were taken care of and ready for customers) Dollar was the only company in the lot to have these burms behind their vehicles. Everyone else was cleared out. Then after going inside to let them know they insinuated we don't know how to drive in snow. We have lived here for 35+ years. We know how to drive in snow. The owner was equally rude and simply did not care and stated it's not there responsibility to make sure the cars are cleared around. He also said it's a two week drive car and it will be like that everywhere we drive. (1. They why are you renting 2 wheel drive cars? 2. This is not true. You can drive 2 wheel drive cars in Fairbanks). We left and went to 4x4 Rentals and had a wonderful experience there. read more

I wanted to say a huge thank you to Ginger (long, curly hair) at Dollar Car Rental at FAI. I arrived on the late flight from Seattle on July 12 and was horrified to find my credit card company had cancelled my card en route - which meant renting the car was a problem. As stressed as I was - unable to contact my bank online or by phone it being Friday night, and knowing any problem would not be addressed until Monday at the earliest - she was so kind and patient and reassuring, promising me that she would help me - that even with the endless paperwork she had to do, she got me out of there with a car. More than that, when I returned over a week later - the flight again, as usual, leaving at midnight - she again did all she could to sort out the payments/refunds of deposit etc and insisted I go to get my plane. She was so utterly kind again, and a credit to Dollar - please thank her for me! James read more

When one is traveling to Fairbanks in the heart of Winter, a 4-wheel drive is not a luxury but a necessity Needless to say, rental companies know this & gouge the beegeezes out of consumers like me. Dollar Rent A Car was the cheapest we found Still ended up costing almost $500 for the week....and this was *without* any added insurance or upsells. After I got to the counter to confirm my departing flight details, they charged me an entire extra day for going past my pickup time by 2 hrs.......did NOT appreciate that! We were given a Chevy Equinox & it was actually a nice SUV. Not as much space in the back for luggage as we'd have hoped but luckily we were just 3 so we could also load up the backseat Clean, almost newish car - it got us here & there & almost everywhere we wanted to go. Might have completely done the trick but icy roads made big babies out of all of us & we chose not to go up to the Hot Springs b/c the road was too nasty ( in our winter-road-novice opinions ) I have no loyalty to car rental companies & usually just go w/ the cheapest & in this case, Dollar did the trick. It's a rarity that I get a clean car when renting from any agency in Fairbanks, so I wasn't surprised to find food wrappers in my rental car when I picked it up this time. What frustrates me most about renting cars in Fairbanks, and Dollar was no exception this time, is when they ask me for a receipt for gas when I drop off my car. I fill out the mileage, mark that the tank is full, and they still want me to produce a receipt to prove that I actually filled up the gas tank. It questions my honestly, and I hate being requested to prove I put gas in the car. Especially when producing a receipt doesn't prove I put in as much gas as I actually used. When I was asked to produce one this morning, I looked at the counter and saw nothing that would tell me that was a rental requirement, and told the agent as much. I also explained that there has been several occasions when I have filled up the tank, knowing that it couldn't have been full when I received it based on the amount of gas I put in compared to the actual amount I used the car. On my last trip to Fairbanks, I drove just from the airport to Fort Wainwright and back. I didn't even drive the car around the post, but I still had to put more than $10 in the tank. I explained that to the agent this morning, who said that asking for a receipt helps to prevent that from occurring for other customers, and I explained that instead of asking customers such as myself to prove their honesty, Dollar should fill up the tanks that need it and then charge the PREVIOUS customer in response to THEIR lack of honesty. They have to prep the car for the next costumer, and it should take no time at all to fill up the cars as needed. Heck, they could even use that time to take the previous renter's food wrappers, receipts and empty drink containers from the car, which I never fail to encounter when I rent a car in Fairbanks. read more

This is a bad business that they take an advantage of people. The car wasn't clean when we got it and when we broth the car back they were to lazy to go check the car or this is how they set up to charge people. And 2 days after they charge my credit card almost $11o for gas. I filled out the car and to me they charge the costomer and they know that the costomer is not there to show them that they are lying. I'll try to contact the Dollar rent a car head quarter to see of they want to do something about this and if not I'll issue a stop payment on my credit card. read more

RUN, worst car rental agency ever. This company charges as much as the big name brands and give the customer old better cars that have run in the ground and will not start when you need it the most. What's worse? They treat customers like they are idiots trying to pass off there shotty workmanship and jerry rigid attempt at winterization on the customer like its the customers responsibility to open the hood and fix the wires. They don't answer phone and could care less about the circumstances, trust me they are just out to take every "dollar" from the customer they can. Just pass them by spend the two or three extra bucks a day a go with big name especially in Fairbanks. It's a private franchise owner, I needed assistance and corporate couldn't even help me. I need to extend and I hot diverted to the offshore thrifty extension department in the Philippines!?!?!?, no joke they had no clue couldn't help at all and care less about my situation, Worst rental car experience ever, still trying to get my money back for the days I couldn't even use the broken down car they refused to fix/pick up and replace. Even told me I had to pay towing. Insane don't even know where to turn for assistance with this place. They need to be shut down!! read more

Stay away! I arrived a few hours early to the airport and asked if I can get the car. They assured me it would not be a problem. They forgot to tell me that I would be paying a full day extra for doing so. I found this out when I returned the car. Crooks. I spoke to the manager/owner, he explained this is how he makes money. As much as we would like to give them a higher rating, just have to be honest. Everything seem to go well until it was time to return the car. Upon arrival, a cellphone was left in the car, so reported it to the front counter. The girl said she tried calling the phone at least 3 times to no avail & was going to voicemail. We finally pinged the location & got the phone back. There were no missed calls or voicemails on the phone so truth speaks for itself there. The lot guy took off with the car as soon as I drove up with it & stated there was no phone in the car when it turned out after pinging location, the cellphone was in the car & he was told to bring the cellphone to the counter before customer pushed the issue. We were just happy to get the cellphone back, but could've went without all the hassle. The car itself was good & dependable. Smooth transaction picking it up. They had it ready & there was no hassle there. read more

There were definitely problems with my rental: 1) When we got in the car, we noticed that it had not been gassed up. The gas gauge was at the halfway mark. This necessitated a trip back to the car rental counter then a trip to the gas station. Not a great way to start a visit. 2) The car had never been cleaned. Not only did it look dirty on the inside, we found a half-empty soda bottle rolling around. The car had clearly not been serviced before we received it. Therefore, when the agent said the car was ready for us and that it had been inspected for windshield cracks and scratches, she was incorrect. We could have been charged for something we did not do. I contacted Dollar and asked them to call me. All I received was a canned email saying they were sorry and would let the location know about my issues. read more

rented a car for a month and the next day upon the car return was accused , charged and billed for smoking charges plus $14.42/gal of gas charges ( taxes, fees and etc charges included) after it was returned. i do not smoke...when the vehicle was turned in it was full of gas and gave the gas receipt . still was billed for more gallons. you are at their mercy upon the return of the vehicle. they can charge whatever they want !!!! bottom line, this airport dollar car rental company is very devious and a crooked car rental company. don't trust and rent from this car company !!! they will screw you upon car return to bleed you for extra money. that is their standard operating procedure. not an honest ,reputable trust worthy car rental company to rent a car from. Dollar rented me a car. As I pulled out of the parking lot, the low tire pressure light came on. It was -15 deg. F and they told ME to change the tire and bring it back. Then they charged me $245 for a tire replacement. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! DOLLAR AND THRIFTY OF ALASKA ARE CROOKS. THEY WILL GET YOU WHENEVER THEY CAN. After renting the car for over a week I filled it up and returned it at the gas station next to the airport, my invoice even states the car has been filled up and dollar rent a car without notification is attempting to charge me for close to 4 gallons of gas at 9.99 saying the car was not topped off! I will never rent from this company again!! They did not walk out with us to look over the car for any damage when we picked it up and they did not look it over when we returned it. We had no incidents when we were in Fairbanks so I thought this place was great. TWO WEEKS LATER, someone from Utah called saying there was damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle and will be filing a claim. The claim was mailed and it stated there was a "dent" on the front DRIVER side of the vehicle. They want to charge us $1300 for this!!! This place is a TOTAL RIP OFF!!! I'm so angry that I did not take pictures of the vehicle before and after. I thought about it but didn't do it. I guess they thought since we're from California, they can make some money off of us out-of-towners. Words of advice: DO NOT GIVE THEM THE TIME OF DAY!!! By far the worst experience I've ever had traveling. I travel for months at a time for my job and therefore I am experienced in the rental car process. The general manager there was the rudest manager I have ever experienced from someone in the customer service field. Basically the car broke down on the side of the road and he charged me almost $90 for gas because when his service guy returned the car to the rental sight (after I was given a different, working car) the gas tank wasn't full. I asked the manager if he expected me to walk in the -40 degree weather to the nearest gas station with a gas can so I could "fill up the car" before it was towed back to the rental lot and he basically said he didn't care what I did, but a contract is a contract and I was supposed to return the car with a full tank of gas.(Noting that he charged me $9.99/gallon) Needless to say, I'm not sure how someone with his customer service skills ever got to be a manager/owner. He was just trying to nickel and dime the customer and apparently his motto is "the customer is always wrong!" Needless to say, as long as I'm a boss at my job no one I supervise will ever rent from Dollar in Fairbanks again. read more
