Avoid the Scams and Scare Tactics I had an incredibly sketchy experience at the rental counter here. We had pre-booked an electric car online, but the agent, Aysem, immediately tried to pressure us into a different car. He tried to "butter us up" with friendly talk, claiming he'd give us a "huge discount" to switch the car and it will be $25/day ( same price as we book online). He kept repeating that he was giving us a "great discount" and claiming it normally costs $200. The catch? He tried to charge us an extra $25 a day. When I called him out on the "extra" fee and the fact that it felt like a scam, he just brushed it off, saying, "What's the difference? You just need me to say extra? Ok it will be extra $25/day) When I insisted on keeping the electric car I actually booked, he switched to scare tactics. He told me that I'd have to wait seven hours to have it charged every time I needed to charge and that the nearest station was 12 miles away. It felt like a total lie just to force me into a more expensive rental. When I took his photo to document the interaction, another guy tried to intimidate me, claiming it was "federal property" and illegal to take pictures--which is complete nonsense. The whole experience felt like a coordinated scam. Dissatisfied. Period. We rented a car from this location in November 2025 for two weeks. To be mindful of expenses, we chose the a rental option in which we would only know of the type of car on day of arrival (essentially, we agreed to a "mystery box" car). NOTES 1. My friend made the rental car reservation via his credit card company; basically via a third party business. 2. We reserved the car for a two week period in mid-November 2025. 3. The rental car was completely paid for (or so we thought) before our arrival in Orlando. As many other 1-star reviews mention, the business practices at this location are dishonest and the employee we dealt with was not trustworthy. After we collected all our suitcases, it was decided that I'd wait with our bags/belongings while my friend sorted out the rental. I didn't expect to wait too long as there was no one else in line.....I was greatly mistaken. Long story short: The male employee that was assisting my friend was rude and being extremely unhelpful. He couldn't answer questions about the purpose of the additional fees (which we didn't expect) listed in the rental contract. He repeatedly kept trying to upsell my friend to rent a larger vehicle (an SUV or a full-size car), which he informed the worker that we didn't need since it was only two of us in the car. He then even tried to make an excuse that all our suitcases would not fit in the car. In the end, we left extremely frustrated, irritated, and very upset at this horrible experience. We thought this ordeal was over.....we were greatly mistaken. The rental cars are located in the garage across the road from the main terminal; simply follow the signs for your respective rental car company to find your vehicle. We followed the arrows/signage to the "Dollar Car Rental" section of the lot, but we couldn't locate the area that our car was supposed to be at. The number for our section was in the 1700s, and the section we were in had numbers way above that numeric....i.e. 2000, 2100, etc. Not knowing what to do, my friend went to ask for help at the Hertz kiosk that was nearby. It turns out we were assigned to a car in another terminal. We were in TERMINAL B, and our rental was in the garage for TERMINAL A. Thankfully, the Hertz staff was able to help us out, and assigned us a vehicle (which turned out to be Hyundai Hybrid small SUV) in Terminal B. Needless to say, we were thankful Hertz helped us out, but very, very upset about the possibility that the Dollar employee was purposeful in his actions in assigning a vehicle located in Terminal A. Avoid Dollar Rent A Car -- misleading practices and zero accountability I'm posting this as a warning to other customers. I rented a vehicle from Dollar at the Orlando (MCO) airport. At the counter, an optional insurance product was added to my rental without being clearly explained as optional. I was told the amount being charged was a standard deposit. It was not. It included insurance I did not need and would have declined if properly disclosed. When I noticed the charge, I immediately raised the issue -- at the counter, by phone, and later through my bank. Dollar refused to remove the charge, stating that because I signed the agreement, there was "nothing they could do." My bank ultimately closed the dispute based on contract language, not on whether the charge was fairly presented. Dollar later acknowledged internal "adjustments," yet no refund was ever issued back to my bank. Wells Fargo confirmed they received nothing. At that point, only Dollar could correct the issue -- and they chose not to. The result: I was forced to pay for insurance I did not knowingly agree to, with no meaningful path to resolution. This experience showed me that Dollar relies on rushed counter interactions, fine print, and the chargeback system to protect questionable charges -- not on transparency or customer service. If you rent from Dollar, scrutinize every line before signing and do not assume anything is "just a deposit." Looking for car rental availability in Orlando International Airport, Dollar Car Rental was one of the cheaper options available for a week long rental at the end of June. The booking process was easy online, providing pick-up and drop-off times. My husband and I took an overnight flight with Frontier Airlines, arriving in Orlando International Airport at around 6:00 A.M. The pick-up for the Dollar Car Rental also shared space with Thrifty Car Rental as well. When we had arrived, there was no wait time, and we were able to immediately go to the Dollar Car Rental customer service representative. The pickup process was seamless, though a few different services were attempting to be sold during the check-in process such as Tolls or Automatic Gas fill. There is also a $200 hold on the credit card. The car rental we had was a full-size, which included either a Chevy Malibu or a Nissan Altima. We ended up selecting the Nissan Altima. There was a minimal amount of miles on it, less than 30,000 miles. Unfortunately, the car didn't have apple or android integration, with no navigation system built in. Overall, though, the car worked great! The vehicle drove great, and the AC worked phenomenally! Drop-off was easy. We had a drop off for Thursday morning around 7:00 A.M. We kept the original Dollar Car Rental paperwork and provided it to the technician when we arrived back at Orlando International Airport. read more

The Dollar representative told me my reserved car had been given away and offered two options: - Pay extra for an SUV - Take a compact Corolla at no discount I asked why I couldn't get a refund for the price difference if I chose the smaller car. He claimed that because I booked through Priceline, he couldn't adjust the price--but somehow he could charge more for an upgrade. Besides if anything they should provide me with a complimentary upgrade for giving my car away. When I insisted on the mid-size car I paid for, he said I'd have to wait an hour for one to show up. We were already late for our Disney vacation. I asked for a manager. He said the manager was "walking around the airport" and I'd have to wait. When I pushed back and told him to call the manager, he suddenly remembered the manager might be "in the back." Moments later, the manager appeared--and had no trouble finding a mid-size car immediately. Clearly, they were trying to make a dime here! Return Scam Before returning the car, I filled the tank at a gas station just 5 minutes from the rental location. Yet, when I received my receipt via email, Dollar had charged me for 2 gallons of gas at $10/gallon for a total of $20.00 + taxes. I went back to the counter to dispute it. The rep claimed they used a tool to detect fuel usage between the gas station to the return lot. I asked her if we could check the fuel gauge directly in the car and I pointed to the car I had just returned. She kept on repeating and insisting that it wasn't the same car I had rented--even though I had the rental agreement in hand. When we started the car, of course, the fuel gauge read Full. I rented from Thrifty car rental approximately two years ago at this airport and had a horrible experience, so I purposely did not rent and Thrifty for this reason. What I didn't realize is both companies are connected. I had the same pick up experience that I had approximately two years prior. We arrived to the check-in counter where we were informed that they did not, in fact, have a car. They did not have any compact or smaller sized cars available, and told us they could get us a mid-sized SUV for an additional $20/day, doubling our price for the rental. They then told us that with the young driver's fee, it would be an ADDITIONAL $25/day on top of having to pay for the SUV. So not only did they not have our car, but they then tried to triple our daily rental cost. I understand having a young driver's fee, it makes sense, but they should also disclose how much that fee is ahead of time. Otherwise we wouldn't have bothered and we would have just gotten an Uber. I booked a Dollar Rental through AAA, which I thought was going to be fool-proof as all the fees were laid out on AAA for me to accept. Boy was I wrong! When I showed up at the rental counter, the car I had booked was unavailable. They said they'd match the price to what I had booked ahead of time, but that was only for the actual rental price. Despite insisting that I had my own coverage, we were roped into paying all their incident and insurance fees, gas fees, toll fees, etc. By the time the deal was done, we paid double what I had booked on AAA! When reviewing the receipt (post sleep as we were picking the car up after a 3 AM flight), we realized that half the fees were not mandatory ones, but we had not been asked whether we wanted them or not. Rented from Dollar (MCO) a couple weeks ago.. A plus? They had availibilty the day after christmas. The cons? Literally everything else. Don't even bother paying "in full" before your reservation as you're likely going to be charged triple when you get there anyway. Their desk attendants are rude. I had one make a passive aggressive comment about my appearance. Don't even bother trying to contact them for an explaination either. I've contacted the company twice to speak with someone in private, however, I've been ignored both times (by both Dollar and Hertz). My boyfriend and I rented from them a few years ago and the experience was just as terrible but I figured to give them a 2nd chance. I should have read reviews first and I didn't. My fault. The BAIT & SWITCH is horrible here. While no employees were rude/mean they just didn't try to be good at customer service. I booked the manager special and for that you save a few dollars and the company picks the vehicle. Sure no problem I don't really care...BUT then I get there and they tell me the manager has picked me an electric vehicle that has to be returned fully charged. I ask how long it takes to charge: 3 hours...what am I supposed to do?! How would I do that?! If I don't return it fully charged it's a $40 fee on a total rental cost originally of $50. No way. Fine can I have the next option? Yes for $15 more so now my $50 is $65 for a rental because they know people PICKING UP AT AN AIRPORT can't charge it. Then you go out to the aisle and they say any car in the line...cool I get in a hybrid (I was only going to drive a total of 35 miles so I figured I might not even have to get the gallon of gas if it was hybrid). Start it up go to the check out lane and get told the car is on a stop hold...so now I have to take the car back to the parking spot myself...idk but good customer service would have maybe helped me with that? You told me these cars were all available.. Go back go to get in another car and I can smell the cigarettes before I get in...but by this time I'm annoyed and I just decide to take it anyway. We arrived at Dollar Car Rental at the Orlando International Airport at about 5:55pm to pick up our vehicle to see about 50 people in line in front of us. Thankfully many people were in groups. There were only 2 people behind rhe counter. After an hour, we finally go to the counter at 6:55pm. It was only about 5 minutes before we got to the front when 2 other employees came out behind the counter to take customers. I am not sure if they just started their shift, but it was very busy and I'm sure they could have used them during that time as it was soooo busy. The cashier was nice and helped us. Our transaction took about 10 minutes. She then directed us to the pick up area which was all the way on the other side of the terminal. We needed to go up a level walk all the way across the terminal, take the elevator to the bottom floor, then walk to the parking garage across the way to get the vehicle. Our walk was about 10-12 minutes away. We when finally got to the vehicles, the first vehicle that we went into smelled really bad like used baby diapers. The scent was so bad that we needed to get a different car. It appeared as though the vehicle wasn't cleaned well. I was very disappointed about that. And making no headway with Thrifty Car Rental customer support through the companies web page after my trip. I then reached out the the Orlando BBB. Thrifty's response there was also unsatisfactory. I then reached out to the following individuals / agencies: 1) Florida Consumer Help through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Customer Services 2) The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority 3) The Orlando Police Department's Online Fraud Reporting System 4) The Florida Attorney General's Scam Reporting System 5) The Federal Trade Commission's Fraud Reporting System 6) The City of Orlando Mayor's Office 7) Each of the City of Orlando City Council members. 8) The Orange County Mayor's Office 9) Each of the Orange County Commissioners 10) The Orlando Visitors Bureau (aka Visit Orlando 11) Each of the 6 Orlando area chambers of commerce 12) A number of local news media outlets After these efforts, I finally received a phone call from the General Manager of the MCO Hertz location and a satisfactory resolution was reached. ORIGINAL POST I reserved a rental car reservation through AAA Texas on July 7, 2024, that was to be provided by Thrifty Rental at the Orlando International Airport. I was to be charged a total of $313.80 (Including all taxes and fees) for an 8-day car rental starting on 7/13/2024 at 11:00 a.m. (EST) and ending on 7/20/2024 at 5:00 p.m. Upon arrival at the Thrifty Rental Counter at the MCO airport, I explicitly DENIED any insurance coverage, stating to the agent that I already had third-party coverage. I was provided with a half sheet of paper-sized form to sign, indicating that I waived the insurance coverage offered by Thrifty. (I read the document and it was a waiver of coverage and was on a half sheet of paper-sized form.) On Monday, July 15, 2024, I was checking e-mails and noticed an E-mail with an "UPDATED RENTAL AGREEMENT", which included an invoice with both basic insurance and full coverage insurance added to my bill. I attempted to call Thrifty, but all calls are routed through a calling tree that does not lead to a live agent, except for booking. Booking agents state that they can not assist, and give a "direct number" that goes back to the same automated calling tree that does not allow the option to speak to an agent. The MCO airport location does not have a phone and calls to another Thrifty branch location (which took 3 hours to get a call back), indicated that only a manager at the MCO location could fix the issue. After driving from my vacation location back to the airport to speak to a manager, I was told that there was nothing they could do and that I had signed the agreement for additional insurance. I was shown a BLANK, full-page form, that the manager indicated that I had signed. I asked to the original form that had my signature, but the manager could not provide it. The manager stated that he had a scanned copy, but could not show me that form either. What is disheartening is that a quick Google search indicated that the MCO Thrifty/Dollar/Hertz location is notorious for this. A customer behind me had the EXACT SAME ISSUE. To be clear, this is not just a matter of an accident or keystroke issue. This is intentional, malicious, manipulation of business records to exploit out-of-state visitors. I never signed the form that the company claims that I did, and Thrifty could not produce a signed form. My final billing billed me at $41.43 a day, not the $27.99 I was quoted via e-mail booking. I was also charged $34.99 a day for damage insurance and $15.88 for liability insurance ($50. 87 a day) which I explicitly waived/denied and signed a document to that effect. The manager could not produce the document that they allege I signed. The manager stated they had a digital scan, but could not show me. I was told that I would have to file a dispute later. When communicating with Thrifty through the BBB, the signature shown on the files sent by Thrifty was the CREDIT CARD AUTHORIZATION SIGNATURE, which was captured via a digital signature pad, with no information on the screen, simply a signature pad. Again, that digital signature was collected for CREDIT CARD AUTHORIZATION, not to acknowledge any terms or conditions. The signature on a PHYSICAL half sheet of paper was the signature acknowledging denial of Thrifty insurance. This paper form I signed has never been produced by Thrifty. Using the digital CREDIT CARD AUTHORIZATION SIGNATURE for any purpose other than authorizing a hold is FRAUD! read more

Nothing like getting off from a long 6 hour flight and then having to stand in a two hour line for your reservation. At 9pm the last thing you want to do with your young kid is to practice your theme park standing in line at such a late hour. Dollar should have anticipated the sheer number of guests and sufficiently manned the desks. The guests were courteous and everyone was very tired. The single line movement was like watching paint dry. After an hour and twenty minutes 2 more service desks opened...now there were 4 desks that could service however we had another hour before having been helped. We overheard another guest responding to the inquiry of how are you to saying...well I rather have been having a nice glass of wine and dinner than standing in a two hour line. Finally our turn and then we went to pick up the car. That was fun. Not. The lot of cars was picked over. We ended up with an old Honda Accord that reminded me of a college car. Completely dented, smelled weird and not quite safe..the kicker being the wheel shook when breaking when going at high speed on the freeway. It's a super busy season so glad we got a car. If asked the question "Would you like Basic or Enhanced protection for the vehicle?", know that you can (politely but firmly) decline both. The sales staff at the counter may ask about your personal liability insurance or otherwise push back, but it's important to know that you can go with the unspoken option C: "Neither, thanks". Once checked-in with the in-terminal agents, you'll head across the street and up to the second level of the rental car garage. There's not much Dollar branding at that point (the agents may be all wearing Hertz gear, for instance), but you're in the right place. 3: If you plan to decline the toll pass option and don't have your own set up, beware the exits from the airport that lead to toll roads. They're prevalent (but avoidable). Minor inconveniences with check-in aside, once I was in the garage with the customer service agents, this branch performed well. The car I'd been assigned wasn't available, but the customer agents found a clean option quickly and with zero hassle (or billing surprises). 1 1/2 hours to rent a car in Orlando. It was almost same amount of time in flight from Cleveland to Orlando Florida if that puts it into perspective. All of us were stuck there. Go to garage and no one working there to get a car. I will never use them again. read more

Going to have to agree with the others who have said how awful their experience was at Thrifty. I made a reservation through my credit card. Once at the airport I was asked all the "additional coverage" options which I politely declined. I was made aware of the $200 hold on my credit card. The agent then gave me everything to sign, which I did effectively due to the extreme line behind us and the lack of employees working. It is my fault that I assumed when I said "no, I decline all coverage" she heard my words and did as I asked. Once I returned from vacation, I find there is a $203 charge on my credit card for services I declined. I was told by Thrifty that "I agreed to them." Which I absolutely did no such thing. I've rented numerous cars in my time and have never been blindsided like I was by these people. It's so disappointing. read more

If I could leave them 0 stars I would. I rented a car through Dollar and paid in full with my debit card. they offered an opine check-in option to make it quicker when I got there. cool. I did that. when I got to the desk, I was informed by the man working the counter that I paid with a debit card and couldn't use that and needed a credit card in my name. I used to travel for work and rent cars all the time through Avis, Hertz and Enterprise. All will take debit, they just charge a little extra on the deposit. I called Expedia where I initially found the deal and they stated they would discuss with Dollar. Dollar is now refusing stating it was in the rental agreement. I was refused service and then won't get refunded for a service that I was refused. This company is trash. read more

The little stand they have is right next to Hertz Rental, but they have wasted 25 minutes of my time with employee incompetence and the endless questions they ask.
