Scammers! I return the car with a full tank and they charged me $149.55 plus taxes and fees for a fraudulent fuel service charge. Now, I have to hunt down a receipt from a random gas station to prove I put gas in the car because returning the car with a full tank isn't proof enough. The same thing happened with Budget at Tampa International, took weeks to get the refund on the fraudulent fuel charge. The only positive from my experience is my personal car key fell out of my bag in the car and they called me and met me at security to get it back to me before I boarded my plane. read more

We reserved a car for our family Disney trip flying in to Orlando Sanford Airport. When we arrived at the rental counter, there was a very brief waits there were several of us on the same flight that were there to pickup cars. There were two agents and the line moved very quickly, maybe about 5 minute wait before I received service. The pickup process was simple they had my reservation for a mid-size SUV and all I needed to do was insert my card to file for incidentals. After only about 2 minutes with the rental agent, I had the keys and was escorted to the parking lot where I found a Toyota Corolla Cross waiting for us. I feel this is a compass SUV at best, but it was plenty big enough for the three of us with checked luggage and a carseat. The vehicle, a 2022 year model, was clean and in good condition with only one minor dent (about the size of a dime) on the driver's door. We loaded up and went over the existing damage with the gate attendant at the lot exit. All told, it took us about maybe 10 minutes to actually be off the airport grounds in the car. The return process was even more simple. I followed the signs to Dollar rental returns and was greeted by a waiting employee who advised me I could leave the key in the vehicle as we gathered our things. By the time I had our luggage and carseat out of the car, the check-in was done and I had been emailed a rental receipt. I thanked the employee and they thanked me for our business and that was that. I will be on the lookout for any additional emails about this rental based on others' reviews about receiving charges after-the-fact, and will update if we do receive any suspect charges/communications. My father rented this car for a week (which was not cheap) and returned it early thinking that the price would at least be the same and that he would get a partial refund for the unlimited toll pass that he bought for all 7 days. It turns out it was $15.00 more expensive and the people at the airport couldn't do anything about the toll pass. I emailed their customer service department and explained to them the situation. Smooth delivery! I knew if I waited to long, I'd forget the young lady that waited on me. Well pick up was around 11pm on March 30th and I think the young lady name is, Andrea....short little miss. Well she was a pleasure and answered all my questions and eased my concerns. We even engaged in conversation. I found out that even though the agency closes at 11:30 p.m. they do not 'officially' close until the last flight reaches the terminal. This was super great to know. I was concerned I would be stranded... thinking of the impossible... but it's great to know measures are in place in case of flight delays or etc. I picked up my rental...it was all good, so I thought. It wasn't until the next day, that I realized while driving in 70+ degree weather, the air conditioning was not working properly. It wasn't a major concern of mine, but my passengers complained. I am not sure how the agency goes about checking to make sure all systems are a go. But in my case, this area was missed. The young lady did not walk outside with me to check the car out before I drove off. You sign paperwork, provide necessary payment and ID and you are given the keys and well wishes of a great stay. Even when I returned the car, their wasn't anyone to greet me. Oh well, I hope the next person doesn't get inconvenienced. I would have/I should have said something but it really slipped my mind. I guess the employees do not know of issues unless they are reported. This shouldn't be up to the client however. I was issued a Chevy Cruze... great on gas and overall it was a great rental. I booked the rental using Hotwire...but Dollar held a charge of at least $200 maybe more on my card. I thought this was a bit outrageous. But it was their policy. Nevertheless, it all worked out in the end. I was charged a great rate in advance with Hotwire and no additional charges were placed on my account from Dollar. Tried to stiff us with a $400 cleaning fee for smoking!! We don't even smoke. The Mrs. Did mention the car had a smoke odour when we first hopped in but never thought anything of it. When we dropped the car off, nobody was there to receive it. A sign said leave keys in the console. We headed to the terminal and when we landed I had a receipt emailed to me with a surprise $400 cleaning fee!!! We called the help desk which takes 10-15 minutes to finally get someone on the line to speak with. Im due to fly out of Sanford airport at 7:30 AM, but their office doesn't open until eight. The agent at the desk declined to tell me where to leave the car and how to do it so we decided to bring it back tonight prior because I was going to get a ride to the airport at 5 AM instead and not to have to worry about dropping off the car. So I called the national number, the agent to said it was OK if I dropped it off early -prior to 11 -she said yes please but make SURE it's here by 11 .I said that's not a problem- we arrive at 10:30 AM. The DOLLAR return gate is LOCKED /closed . I can't drive the car in to drop it off and there is not a human inside. They obviously closed early I called the national number was online for 15 minutes and then they finally gave me a 407 number to reach the desk. I called at 10:45. That was not a human there to answer while they closed at 11. So now we're taking another trip to the airport in the morning and my cousin is gonna sit there with her husband to wait until the office opens so they can check out my car with a human. The person on the phone told us one thing but when we went to pick up the car the lady at the terminal was extremely rude and unhelpful. She just kept repeating the same policy over and over in a very condescending voice. Rented a car for a week of vacation, expecting to get a compact gas car. Arrived to find the only options were electric Chevy Volt or $20/day upgrade to a Mustang or Camaro. We absolutely did not want an electric car. Did not want to spend our vacation time at a charging station waiting hours for the car to charge. Seeing we were not planning on driving much, just to and from the resort with a couple of trips for dinner or the store, it made no sense to pay the extra money for a car to sit in the parking lot. Reluctantly took the Volt. Never drove one before so we didn't know what to expect. There was only 56% charge on the battery, barely enough to get to our resort. Went back to the desk, said we did not want a car that was not fully charged. If it were a gas car you would expect that it would have a full tank. Told the clerk I would not spend half a day of our vacation looking for a charging station and spending time waiting for it to charge since we were not the ones who used it last. He finally said he did have a Tesla which we finally decided to take only after finding out we could charge a Tesla at the resort. He said he would put a charging fee on it so we wouldn't need to return it fully charged. But when we got in it this car was only charged 76%. It was enough to get us there so we took it and charged it at the resort. We returned it with 78% charge. Told the clerk that I didn't feel I should pay the charging fee since it was higher than when we got it. They were very rude and insisted there was no charging fee on the bill. But when we got home I got a receipt in my email saying they were charging our credit card $35 because it didn't have a full charge. Bunch of crooks. TLDR: I was charged a fraudulent $55 fee with no means to dispute. I drove about an hour from my hotel to the airport in Orlando with no issues. Upon arrival, the tech was apparently taking a break, although they had only been open for about 15 minutes. I turned in my car and the representative standing at the turn-in area could not be bothered to give me any kind of receipt or paperwork, perhaps that was my mistake for allowing him to be useless. Then I went inside and asked the counter representative for a final receipt, she told me that I would need to download it online, again perhaps my fault for allowing that. Then I boarded my flight and arrived home to find that they had charged me $55 plus tax for a tire repair. I experienced no problems during my drive to the branch and the tech made no mention upon turn-in. If such a repair was necessary, average cost for such a repair is 1/3 that much. When I called Dollar (national office) to ask about this charge I was first told by Gloria that I could not in any way dispute this charge and she hung up on me. I called again and was told by Abel that I could only dispute the charge by contacting the actual location. The phone number he provided only went to the national office and back to his office, there was no way to route to the specific branch, a fact which the next national office rep (Ed) confirmed, there is no number they would provide which would reach that branch. Ed advised that I drive to the branch and discuss it with them. I explained that like most renters I was from a different state and that was not a reasonable solution. I was never told I had to use a credit card because of this. I only keep a small credit card for emergencies. I had 265 available on it and my reservation was 275. The manager wouldn't waive the credit card requirement (even though I had a flight itinerary showing we fly out from Clearwater). She could have done this. She also wouldn't lower the rate 10 so that we could use my credit card. She could have also done this. We were 12 hours from home with no car. Shame on you Vanessa and Avis. I rented a car from Dollar in November for 13 days. I drove to Virginia with my 4 month old son and Dad so my son could meet family for the first time as I am temporarily living overseas. I rented the car on a Thursday evening and the car was driven once until our big trip to Virginia. On Saturday I discovered ants in the car. They were everywhere. I noticed them when I stopped at a gas station to fill up and throw away my trash. There were ants all over my yogurt container and on the middle console. I was not happy to have to not only discover that there were ants in my newly rented car with my young baby but that I had to hunt to kill all of the ants that were in the car. I did not want to drive 12 hours and worry that my son and I might get bit. I spent over $400 on this rental and to have ants in the car, well this is just extremely disappointing. I contacted Dollar Rental twice and sent emails to seven different addresses. I got one response that said I was emailing the incorrect department but that they would forward my email. Rental experience was positive until I saw what they charged on our credit card bill. I'd declined their insurance when reserving the car ahead of time and when picking up the car at the airport in Sanford but they tacked on $69.95 plus taxes. Fortunately, they agreed to refund us for the insurance charges after I called and complained. Was also misled about what the gasoline would cost when agreeing to their prepaid plan. Friendly lady said cot would be $3.379/gal for however many gallons it took for them to fill up the tank when car was returned. Any difference would be refunded. We were billed $56.00 up front based on $3.50/gal and 16 gallons for our Chrysler 200. We certainly didn't use 16 gallons of gas during our rental period but weren't going to argue over the difference. It just didn't feel right how it was handled. Have made the same trip every year for Labor Day. Usually use Enterprise but Dollar made me a good deal. Car was terrible, ran bad, a/c couldn't cool the car and the transmission was all over the place. Have always used 2 1/4 tanks of gas. Used 3 1/4 tanks of gas with this car. When I informed the attendant about the problems with the car she said "oh well" I said I lost all my savings by renting with you but will go back to Enterprise. I needed a vehicle asap and was dropping off at another location. They processed the rental in lighting fast speed and really gave me a great deal. Be sure to get a RETURN RECEIPT!! Early morning return. There was just a lady in a minivan asking "who did you rent with? Pull to the right lane, leave the keys in it, unlocked", no paper receipt, didn't ask to see my rental agreement. Now Dollar wants to charge me for an EXTRA DAY, saying I turned it in a day late, which is not possible.
