Do NOT rent from Dollar Rent A Car!! I do not care if it is a dollar a day!!! The rep was nasty to me, tried to give me a dirty car with a cigarette burn in the seat (no one is suppose to smoke in the car) and it was NOT noted in the computer. After speaking to corporate, they notified her to give me another car and she was really ugly at that point! She would not give me keys until an hour after I got there because I ordered it online through Orbitz and put an hour after my flight got in just in case there were any delays YET she had a car available!! So we sat there and looked at one another. I had informed her that my mother was ill and in the hospital and I had been traveling all day to get there but she did NOT care--she was trying to make a point. Rented a car which wound up over heating on the way back home two states away. Not a huge problem.. Crap happens, right? Called up corporate who offered to switch cars in Jacksonville, FL. Did I mention we were 2 states away? We didn't make it before the JAX office closed and had to painfully limp into Tallahassee. It wasn't the additional day I had to pay for that made me angry. It was the agent who sucked her teeth at me and gave me an attitude when I delivered the message that the car needs to undergo maintenance before being rented out again. She sullenly stated that management would call within 24 hrs regarding the issues we experienced. I had to call and reach out the next day ( greater 24 hrs) to find out that corporate had already reviewed the incident and credited the extra day I paid for to get back into town. Summary: The agency itself is decent but I would definitely stay away from this location. The customer service is horrendous!! read more

One star is too much, I had the worst experience ever at this location with what should have been a very simple, straight forward 3-day $162 prepaid car rental. First of all there was no one at the counter when at 7pm, thankfully Hertz was opened and they were able to give me keys to my car. When I found my car I noticed the tank was only half full so I looked at the rental contract and it indicated the tank was full and they put a $250 hold on my credit card. No problem, I took a picture of the odometer and fuel gauge and called the toll free number. They made a note on my rental record and tole me to return the car with half a tank. Three days later I returned the car on time with 3/4 tank of gas, took a photo of the odometer and fuel gauge and proceeded in to the terminal to return my and catch my flight, once again, there was no one there. I called the toll free number again and was told they don't open until 8 and to leave the key in the glove box and lock the vehicle, which I did. At 10:30 I called the toll free number to confirm the vehicle had been checked in, and was told that no one came in to work at that location (Tallahassee airport terminal) today so it would take 24-48 hours to update my rental record and release the $250 hold on my card per their policy. The next day I discovered an $83 charge on my card from Dollar Car Rental, so again, I called the toll free number and this time I am told it takes up to a week to close out a rental contract, at which time the funds should be released, PER THEIR POLICY! Needless to say I will not be giving my business to Dollar Car Rental in the future. read more

If I could I would give them negative stars. They wasted my time and money. Don't EVER rent from them! There are so many hidden fees, it triples the rental cost. If you decide to return the car, keep it for the day, because they will charge you as if you had rented it for the full day. Don't get car insurance with them. I spent my whole morning, talking with customer service over the phone and at the location to get a full refund. Before returning the car, I called customer service. I talked with Lauren, she said that if I returned the car since we had it for an hour that we could get a full refund. When we returned it, they still charged us for the day use. The lady at the desk told us to call customer service back for the refund for the day use. Each person I talked to over the phone, transferred me to another person. Apparently, no one wanted to deal with giving us a full refund or customer satisfaction. One man, told me to call the Tallahassee manager 850-575-8502 for a full refund. When we called it made the fax sound and we were never connected to the manager. I called the customer service again. After being transferred multiple times, they told me that we couldn't be refunded for the day use. Oh ya, they also charged us for returning it early. I looked up the number for the Tallahassee location where they gave me the number of the manager on duty 850-491-1922. He was driving when he answered and said that he would call me back about giving me a full refund. I will update this review if he calls me back. If they can't tell you all the costs up front and the end cost is double or triple, just walk away. At least then, you can think about another option and not lose money. I feel SCAMMED! The manager of Dollar Car Rental at the Tallahassee Airport never called me back. They do NOT know how to run a professional business with deceit customer service. read more

Great price great service at counter. The car was clean and well taken care of. Only problem is they outsource their telephone reservations and I spoke with a rather curt person in Manila Would have gotten five stars but unfortunately they outsource so therefore they only get three stars read more

We reserved a Dodge Avenger days in advance, were given the keys to a Ford Focus and were told that our agreement was "for an Avenger 'OR SIMILAR' class." We were offered the Manager's Special Upgrade option for an increase in our rental rate agreement. When we cited the Dollar website car model classifications that indicate that the Focus was not "similar" to the Avenger, we were informed that since Hertz purchased Dollar, our Dollar agreement was superseded by the Hertz car class designation and the Focus was in a similar class as the Avenger according to Hertz. Finally, we were given the keys to a cigarette-smoke fouled Avenger. The next day, Saturday, I called Dollar to complain and request an exchange and was assured that an Avenger would be ready at the nearby Capitol Circle NE location in a couple of hours. The Dollar associate requested that I return the Avenger with the fuel tank full. That location turned out to be closed on Saturday. I called again, received an apology and was redirected back to the airport. The airport rental associate knew nothing of my expected arrival, did not have an Avenger available, offered a Hyundai Elantra, suggested I call back Sunday or Monday to speak to his manager, or call customer service Monday through Friday if I needed further assistance. One day of unpleasantness and $9.00 of run-around fuel cost is not what I expected. BTW. The beginning mileage reading on the odometer was approximately 500 miles greater than the beginning mileage listed on my agreement. I did not drive 500+ local miles in less than 24 hrs. I would not even give Dollar Rent A Car any stars but I was forced to pick one. I would give it a NEGATIVE SCORE due to a horrible experience overall. For the glancers here is a list: 1. MISLEADING PRICES : Estimate says $125.94 (not bad for 5 days) but paid $191.63 with all hidden fees. (Yes, it cost more to pick-up at Airport) Also, be prepared for a $250 Authorization Hold on your credit card. 2. SPOUSE is considered an additional driver, so, pay additional $11 per day (Disappointed about this since spouse is free to drive at any other car rental locations). For the ones going through tolls, they have a fee for it too. Some people said they have paid $50 when they only passed two tolls in total throughout their entire trip. 3. POOR SERVICE: Nobody came out to check condition of car. It had dings, scratches and dirty (dog hair and a bad stench). If you call the toll-free number, you may end-up speaking to someone overseas. 4. EARLY RETURN FEE: I tried to return the car earlier but you will end up paying the same price since they charge $15 Early Return Fee for returning it 24 hours in advance. I still cannot figure it out but I was told if you do not return it at least 48 hours early, you are better keeping the rental until the 5th day. I prepaid for 5 days, which was a big mistake. 5. GAS RECEIPT needed to show pre-filled within 10 miles from the Dollar Rent A Car location that you are dropping-off rental or pay $10+ per gallon fee. Gas Stations are harder to find closer to this Airport Location. In summary, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE: I felt misled and I overpaid for a dinged-up, scratched-up and dirty car rental. This is the first and last time that I would let a car rental like this take my last DOLLAR! read more

Do not rent from Dollar rental if you can help it. The car was fine, but the hidden charges are not. They apparently have a policy that their employees in Tallahassee nor corporate understand. They charge $25 for early return, but told me that was only returning within 12 hours. However, it's really when you return it anytime. I called the toll-free number to dispute it. They told me they would refund the $25 within 5-6 business days. However, instead of the refund, they've charged me another $26 dollars on my card. The manager at the airport has not been helpful either unfortunately. read more

This is my last time renting with Dollar-Tallahassee. When I arrived at the rental counter, I was serviced by a rather surly rep whose attitude showed that she couldn't care less. The car that she gave me was beat up with the hood paint streaked with what looked like acid. I started out in the car and found that it had some type of mechanical problem - jerked like it wasn't getting gas to the engine. I returned the car and the rep told me that they would need to bring another car from the offsite lot. I waited half an hour and suddenly she found a car already in the airport lot - 50,000 miles on it, but at least it ran. When I initially rented the car, I had requested a waiver of the Additional Driver fee under Section D3 of Dollar's General Policies. I had documentation of my physical impairment available to show. The counter rep said that she did not have the authority to do this, and that I needed to talk to the local manager - Andrew. She also said that the rate for an Additional Driver was $13.00 per day, even though my confirmation email clearly said that the rate was $11.00 per day. When I called the local manager's number that she gave me from the airport, the number was disconnected. I told the counter rep this and she said that she had no other number for the manager, but would have Andrew call me. After two days, I had not heard from Andrew so I called the Dollar airport rental desk. The rep who answered said that she had seen the message to call me on the manager's desk. She told me that she would put another message on his desk. After two more days, I had not heard from Andrew and based on the general attitude of the counter rep, I was not optimistic that I would ever hear from him. I went to the airport and another counter rep (this one very nice) told me that the message to call was still on the desk. It is unforgivable for a local rental car manager not to call an unhappy customer. Based on reading other customer complaints for this office, I am not surprised. read more

We used this place many times because it was cheap but a few yrs ago they started adding things in that would drive up the cost, getting there and listening to 20 min of upsell or even saying we dont have that type in when I resv online. The last time I resv a compact car, that was all the car we needed and then when we got there they said " no that car is a full size" uum No , this was a small nissan . It was dirty inside and out. But I did not want that one I needed to upgrade so we took it. We get a few miles down the road and relize it has 1/4 a tank of gas! I called back and they said just fill it to 1/4 when you bring it back. Halfway between here and orlando it started shutting off when I would slow down.. Uugg took it to a dealer near springhill and the guy want to put us in a teeny tiny two door car for 3 of us.. It was awful! When we turned the car in they charged us for a tank of their gas 3x fuel price and said we owes tolls! We paid cash at the tolls and did not have the box in the window.. I said no way. I would never rent from them again .. Ever .. I went right after that and got a brand new nissan rogue and that is what we will be using from now on! They ripped us off big time.. read more
