Perfectly professional and helpful service at Tallahassee airport, saves this from a 1 star review. On our first real day of vacation after picking up the rental Nissan kicks the night before we tried to treat our hosts to lunch out and the car would not start with a key malfunction error message! 2 phone calls and 30 minutes later road service confirmed a ver low battery, the car original one at 50k miles, and shared that they had jump started this same vehicle very recently!!! Clearly this battery needs to be replaced and should have been replaced already. We had to drive across town to get another smaller car in exchange and were told no one locally could even refund us for a day of our 15 day rental.... read more

I felt racially profile and discriminated against because the manager April, a black female decided to put me on the do not rent list. Why because she had the authority. It's so disheartening for people to be treated in the manner that I was treated in. I recommend using another rental agency and not using Hertz ever again. 09/22/23 at rental, was given Ford Expedition. Upon turning on, warning light "front collision system" malfunction displayed. That was not a huge concern for me. Upon pulling out of airport, I discovered that cruise control did not work due to the "front collision system" malfunction. I returned immediately to Hertz counter. I maybe drove a few hundred yards off the airport property. I informed Jovon Merritt of malfunction. He was immediately rude and off putting towards me and did not want to help. I had to insist he call his manager. Jovon Merritt refused to exchange me to smaller Durango at reduced rate. I had wait nearly an hour for replacement vehicle. Was given Suburban. In parking lot, I saw Tahoe. I asked if I could have Tahoe instead and was exchanged into Tahoe. On receipt, I see he charged me $2.52 "TRANSFER EXCHANGE FUEL & SERVICE" fee for malfunctioning Expedition that I did not drive. Tahoe given had marijuana smell in it when I received it. This did not bother me too much and I was already late so I took vehicle. 09/24/23 upon return, I informed Jovon Merritt of marijuana smell present in vehicle when I rented it so that I would not be charged a cleaning fee. I informed him of the vehicle mileage 19024 and fuel level which was completely full and I have receipt showing I refueled just before entering airport. He said that their system automatically detects the mileage and fuel level remotely. I was very surprised to learn of that capability. He then charged me for 10 gallons of gas at a rate of $10.70 per gallon for a total of $102.72. Mind you, I returned the vehicle completely full. When I asked why he charged my card and did this without speaking with me, he because dismissive and immediately tried to go to the next customer without resolving my issue. I was visibly upset at having issues with Jovon Merritt both at rental and return. He refused to help or correct the error. I asked for manager. He called manager on his personal cell phone and tried to have me speak to manager. I did not. He called airport police to try to get me to leave. I was then harassed and threatened by airport police to leave while I was on phone trying to contact Hertz. I was overcharged $105.24 PLUS taxes and airport concession applied to that. I was treated extremely unprofessionally and had law enforcement used as a threat so that Jovon Merritt did not have to correct error. My treatment was beyond unbelievable. read more

We rented (prepaid) a car through Hertz and when we got here, no cars were available. Nothing. We flew in for our son's graduation from flight school at Fort Rucker. Devastating to be sitting in an airport at midnight with a 2+ hour drive ahead of you and no one can help you. Ive heard of over booking a flight, but overbooking rental cars? Be Warry - You get what you pay for! Rented a small car to use around Tallahassee for a week but after 2 days of my 14 day rental, I wanted to talk to someone about upgrading or cancelling. The Chevy Spark they gave me didn't have the space I needed. When I tried to call no one answered at the airport (multiple calls). Called customer service and they were ZERO help, have to talk to the location but could not provide a number I could get through to. This rental experience was HORRIBLE. I am a Gold Customer and have been for several years. The wait at the counter to get my car was over 1 hour, longer than it took me to fly from Miami to Tallahassee!! When the car was delivered to me, it had a half a tank of gas and was not clean. Asked the counter person what he could do for me, NOTHING. Called the 800 number after this debacle, they took all my info, transferred me to the Tallahassee Manager's FAX MACHINE! Had a reservation but no car ready, finally one counter guy went to go check mileage on cat before he could give to me only to find it had not been cleaned so had to start over and find another vehicle. In my travels I find this to be one of the most frustrating Hertz locations. The cars generally have lots of miles, as if they get the dregs of the fleet. Combined with very average customer service makes this a mediocre experience. Cars not in their designated parking spot, tires going flat are just some other issues. read more

Echo all points that Wade B provided. As a weekly business traveler and Hertz 5 star gold member I am completely disappointed with the manager here on site. I continually have issues with cars being dirty on pickup and on multiple occasions have had to change cars mid-week due to service issues. I rented a one way car in Ft. Myers on July 3rd and returned it to this location (Tallahassee Municipal Airport) at 12:41 am on July 4th. According to the hertz website Hours of Operation: Mon-Fri 8:00am-12:00am. On my way to their location attempted to call the front desk (850) 575-7959 at 9:41 pm to ask if there are any special instructions to follow after hours, nobody picked up the phone. I had to be there between 11:00-11:30 pm but my airplane was delayed by an hour and some strong thunderstorm near Ft. Myers also slowed me down. When I arrived at the TM airport it was closed (open 4:00 am-12:00 am) and the drop box for the keys is inside the airport. I called the customer service (800) 654-4174 to inquire about the steps to return the car, after the representative figured out that the drop box is inside the airport I was told to put the key inside the glove box of the car and lock the car, and the fact that I will be still responsible for anything that happens to the car. I did as instructed and left. The next day, July 4th I called (850) 575-7959 at 12:12 pm and again - no answer, no voice mail just long landline phone signals. Meanwhile, I saw the charges on my credit account raising by $100/day. So I called (850) 575-7959 on Monday morning at 10:26 am to inquire if the car was received and why the charges are being raised, a local representative told me that I will receive the call later in the day with the final charges. Of course, no one bothered to call me and close the contract. Then on Tuesday I arrived at the Hertz car rental where I learned that there is no such representative who worked there and promised to get back with me, the rental agent simply wanted to charge me for all days including Tuesday. I explained the sequence of events and refused to pay. Asked for the manager, his name is Andrew, I showed him two attempted phone calls and he offered me a favor to charge only for 3 days, he added that it was my fault to leave the key inside the car and lock it, but that is exactly what a customer service representative told me, and if it wasn't true then Hertz has incompetent people working for them who tell you absolutely the wrong things to do so you will pay more in the end. I called the customer service again 800-654-4173, and then I was told that my contract indicated that Tallahassee Municipal airport does not have "after hours drop off" service, I didn't see it because Ft. Myers never printed that information, later called Ft. Myers and a representative there confirmed that they had never indicated that on my contract/receipt. As a gesture of good will a representative at Hertz Customer Service offered to cut the up-charge in half. In the end, I still do not understand why I have to pay for their responsibility. After I waited to see their "half" cut, it turned out to be a third of the amount, they said that is what I accepted and refused to return the taxes and the insurance charges, offered me to dispute it with my credit company... read more

I can't believe that John (below) left the same review I am about to leave. INSANE... literally the worst experience in 20 years of renting cars. The lady, who I'm sure is the same as John and may even be the Mgr as embarrassing as that is for Hertz, is worthless. She did not have my car ready (Presidents Circle) and made me stand there for almost 45min (linger than my flight) waiting for a specific car. Then, she proceeded to argue with me about the specifics after I heard everything she was saying to others about my rental. She kept saying over and over that it's a small airport and I should never expect the same service as bigger locations. My associate and I were astonished how this person is employed by Hertz. She also made it very clear that she can make a renter wait as long as she needed if that's what she felt was best for her location. i.e. certain cars, one ways, how busy the next day was, etc. read more

Flew into Tallahassee during Hurricane Matthew, specifically to pick up a rental car so I could pick up a piece of furniture in Florida, drive to Louisville and drop it off, pick up another in Ohio, and return home to Chicago. Had a reservation with another company, but 'due to the hurricane evacuation we aren't able to let our cars go one way.' Gee, it would have been nice to know that before I found myself in a place where my ONLY purpose was to get a car. Tried each company in turn, with no luck. Hertz was at the end of the line, and I had absolutely no trouble -- a completely different experience than with the other companies. Gave me the perfect vehicle for my needs, asked me what discounts I had, representative was pleasant to deal with. Only 'complaint' is that the representative, who had inventory and leeway other companies didn't seem to, didn't actively 'advertise' that he had vehicles available -- but maybe that's just not rental car company etiquette. read more

DO NOT USE HERTZ!!! They have no customer service consideration!!! We were 3 ladies (--2 who were visiting from halfway around the world --) who were on a road trip to places we have never been to before. While on a rented Hertz car, we suffered a flat tire in the middle of nowhere on the I-10 freeway and had to wait almost 2 hours in the sweltering summer noontime Florida heat for Hertz to fix our flat. We then had to deviate from our itinerary to go the the Talahassee airport to change our car. After waiting for another almost 2 hours, we were finally given a car. But after loading all our luggage into the new car, we discovered it had no GPS. We were given a GPS to use at our original departure point due to some misunderstanding in the rental agreement. It was promised to us for free for the duration of our 17 day road trip. The clerk at the Tallahassee airport did not tell us that the replacement car would have no GPS. Even if it was complementary to start with, why downgrade us after the inconvenience we had already sufferred while driving a Hertz car? I asked for a GPS and he said all the other cars with GPS were smaller so we could not have one. Our trip last night took us 11 hours instead of 5- because of the flat, the changing of the car, and because we had no GPS. We are just halfway on our roadtrip and we have no GPS. I called Hertz today to see what could be done and the lady told me Hertz keeps spare GPSs and can easily install a GPS into any Hertz car!!! But she said she could not do anything about it and I will have to talk to the manager at another local Hertz tomorrow to see if the manager would help. I will never use Hertz again!!!
