Olsens is both an IGA grocery store and contains an Ace Hardware. These are both valuable to both the local community and visitors to the area! There seemed to only be two restaurants in Ajo when I visited. Therefore, the local deli selections at Olsens offer an important opportunity for other prepared food options. I also found their grocery options helpful to visitors. I bought some frozen tamales and chips for a meal when other options were closed. They had quite decent grocery selections at very fair prices, and their hours were convenient for a small town store. So, if you are visiting Ajo, Olsens is a place that can help you out!

Pumps fired up without any nonsense. No card errors, no weird lag, just in and out. That alone earns points when you've been on the road for a while. Inside was better than I expected for a place this remote. Clean floors, shelves actually organized, not that picked-over, end-of-the-day look you sometimes get. Grabbed a drink, wandered for a minute, and didn't feel like I had to keep my guard up or rush out. The guy behind the counter had that easygoing, small-town vibe. We exchanged a few words, nothing deep, but it felt genuine. Not scripted, not forced. Just normal human interaction, which is weirdly refreshing when you've been bouncing from stop to stop. Bathroom was clean enough that I didn't hesitate, which is about the highest compliment I can give a gas station bathroom. Only reason I'm stopping at four stars is because, well, it's still a gas station in the desert. It's not a destination. But for where it is, it's solid across the board. If you're coming through Ajo, this is an easy, no-regret stop. I'd pull in again without a second thought.
