Service is consistently pleasant and prompt. The folks working this location have done so for years, and they are on top of things. I don't love having to go into Target when I need meds, and their hours aren't always ideal, but I'll take the good service over those minor inconveniences any day.

The staff are much more friendly and engaged, at least on my 1st visit here, than is typical in such places. This seasonal & end-cap displays are set up with a good eye for detail. With help from the cheerful young lady at the front, I was able to find what I stopped in for (puppy training pads for my bunny's cage) with no trouble at all, and paid half the price the pet supply store next-door chargers for the same product. These stores are always bright and clean and all laid out the same with is a major plus. They have plenty of hot bar options also. Tonight (Friday) was fish which looked good but we were here for the subs and a few adult sodas. They have a good selection of local breweries which I enjoy. After multiple failed attempts to order a 27 x 40" movie poster frame on the Michael's website, I…read morevisited the store in person. End result: successful - and pleasant, in-store purchase. I entered the store frustrated, doubtful I'd get the frame I needed, struggling to pull up an email about the canceled orders, over- explaining to the staff at the door, etc. (hey, at least I'm self aware). Edgar to the rescue! This friendly manager was quick to assist. He walked me to the frames, helped me find the correct size, honored the price on the shelf (several dollars less than on his price finder contraption), AND it was BOGO so I got two. Edgar carried my frames to the register, set them down at a self-checkout kiosk, where he noticed a one poster frame was bowed. He instantly elected to go back and get me one in perfect condition while I finished checking out. Now THAT'S good looking out and going the extra mile. I am so grateful for a fantastic in-store experience and can't wait to get my precious movie poster into its frame and up on my wall!! First of all, the store was very clean and organized. It was very easy, overall, finding everything. The clearance section was on point! It wasn't chaotic like most clearance sections and I got some amazing steals. They had paints there as low as $0.19 and I got some seashells and starfish for as low as $0.59! Everything I bought was either on clearance or 40% off on sale except for one item. I got two big bags full of stuff plus a storage container and barely spent over $35. This is the best hobby lobby I've been to!

You'll be whistling the theme to The Andy Griffith Show as you meander thru downtown Main Street! Main Street is home to some lovely restaurants, local grocers, a great coffee shop, the historic train station, shops, Randolph-Macon College, and some gorgeous Victorian homes. The toy train shop is must when visiting this homey town. Also in the "downtown" area, you'll find several antique shops, a fabulous bakery and even a small movie theater! Be sure to go by the Ashland Farmers Market where vendors offer local vegetables, herbs and plants, honey, fruits, baked goods, dairy products, crafts and more! Nearby, closer to Rt. 1, it's more commercial with the chain grocers, gas stations, diners, James River Winery, hotels, department stores and other businesses. Entertaining the family is not a problem here! Ashland has a beautiful park located behind the Police Station off England St. This small, quiet park has a neighborhood feel with picnic tables, playgrounds, benches and even a skate park for skateboarders! (The Skateland roller skating rink is on Rt. 1 and has been around for decades and King's Dominion is just a hop, skip and a jump away from town!) While exploring Ashland, the visitors center in the old train station is invaluable for finding the historic spots in nearby. Scotchtown, Patrick Henry's Home is just 10 miles outside of town. The Ashland Museum will provide you with an overview of the town's history. The local library hosts numerous community events throughout the year. And the townspeople flock to the streets for the annual festivals held in Ashland as well, one of the most notable being Ashland Train Day which celebrates Ashland's love for trains! All aboard! I'm there! No wonder this town is nicknamed "Center of the Universe"... it makes you feel right at home!

Unfortunately, not enough time to jump off while passengers disembarked and climbed aboard. Lined on both sides with beautifully kept properties with green lawns and occasional split rail fences. With Randolph Macon College keeping the Town young and lively, along with a variety of B&B's and cute little Main Street with rows of shops on both sides. The Town's website lists regular activities and events. Heading south we saw a Marathon and tables offering crafts & baked goods. Ashland seems to be a perfect weekend get away, especially by rail! It's on my agenda.
