On a recommendation from our super nice server at The Open Oven restaurant, we stopped in to Take a Hike to grad a pair from him. We we happy to see that they allow pets/dogs in the store so that one of us wasn't stuck in the car with the pups. The store has tons of great clothes, shoes, socks and other supplies you might want for hiking. Big names like Prana, North Face, Patagonia etc. He got a pair of shorts from the clearance section and I found a handy Kavu sling purse. Win-win

There is typically plenty of parking in the lot or nearby. Standard small town hours. The shop is clean and organized. They have a good sampling of outdoor gear. Lots of seasonal clothing, some camping gear and backpacks and some Knick knacks such as hydration tabs and stickers. There is a sale rack in back. Everything is very pricy as goes with outdoor gear shops especially small ones. I would still argue that it's pretty similar to the standard- not more expensive than REI or the like. I'd definitely recommend this place for a stop in. They have a nice curated selection. Plus it's always the season for a fun new outdoor toy to inspire you to get outside ;)

After you rebuilt after Helene anytime, any day of the week when we come there your Enplyees/Volunteers are no longer friendly. We have always made a point to say Hello walking through the door. And Goodbye because that's who we are and your people would greet us coming and going. I raised 4 kids with stuff I purchased from you and I redonated things we didnt need because I was told originally your proceeds helped children. The dog is not chained to anything, he just holds it by the collar. I love animals but I don't think this is ok for a business to allow this to happen. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen. I won't be going back in until the dog is gone, I should not have to risk getting bit to go get discounted groceries.

The store is very large so I didn't get to see all of it. They had an area with nice tables where you could sit and eat. I have never seen brewed tea in a grocery store before and wanted to get some but couldn't find the cups. The prices were about average on some things but above average on others. A gallon of milk was 2.00 more at this store than the Walmart we went to earlier in the week. I like that they had a section for many bulk items with bags and stickers but no pen to write with. Both self checkouts and cashiers were available.

On separate occasions over this past week, the following has occurred: 1) When asking the customer service counter to check lottery tickets, the young male said it was outside his pay grade and referred someone to else. 2) While checking out, the young girl behind the customer service counter was sneaking puffing on her vape. Just before that, a manager was stocking the candy section at the register without saying anything only for me to have bumped into it and excusing myself. He probably should have waited for customers not to be at a register or at least acknowledged he was there. 3) Asked two people at the deli if they had banana pudding and they said they were out, only to find out they had an entire pan and a half as I walked further down. 4) If you don't have an Ingles card, the cashier didn't even know to ask the customer if they would like one to register. These are 100% a store manager issue and easy things to correct. As of now, it's chaos.

For example their produce is typically flavorless and spoiled a day or two after you get it home. Yes, the stores are large, the employees are very nice but their brands typically dominate the shelves instead of nationally known brands. So, again, little chance to get anything but what they want you to have. With a 20 minute drive those of us who can, leave Ingles behind instead going to Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, Trader Joes or Fresh Market, all of which are infinitely better.

Maybe she was having a bad day, but if that was my only experience with the shop, I wouldn't return.
