I'm sure I'm being a bit petty but heads up don't buy alcohol here. The woman who just checked us…read moreout was rude, cold and insulting. I tried to joke with her about how I missed my home state of WI and make nice but she was having none of it. She then asked my partner for their ID and we couldn't tell if she was joking but then coldly said if they didn't hand it over we would have to wait outside the store to be checked... whatever that means. She shouldn't be working customer service. So much for the small town WI kindness I used to adore.

Where the "French" am I?!?…read more "So this is where you end up when a few family members pass and you haven't seen the rest of your family in 10 years" said one fellow to another. Of course, this missing teeth, no shirt, cut off shorts wearing guy looks back at you like YOU'RE the one who is crazy, you wonder why you don't keep your thoughts to yourself more. I think I finally understand what country people do when they don't have a tv, they go to the grocery store for entertainment. As I walk through the Piggly... (Sorry, I can't stop laughing when I say their name) trying to find something to eat (having a family of carnivores). Also, TRYING not to be bitten by the wild children running amok, I finally reach their produce area and with my wallet and my fingers still intact. I'm immediately taken back by how low their prices are. I look up to meet all of the staring eyes to confirm this amazement. Then I realize they weren't staring at me because of my reaction to the prices, they have been staring the whole time I've been in the store. It's probably because I'm wearing a shirt and am groomed I figured, so I moved on. I stocked up on all kinds of fresh produce, they had everything and plenty of it. I track down my brother, who had some of the same experiences with the locals like I and we make our way to the liquor area to meet the rest of the family. Their snack isles (yes there is more then one) were impressive but not as impressive as their liquor area. They even have a walk in cooler. Prices unfortunately was pretty much the same as back home so I just got what I needed. My only complaint here are the lines. I couldn't understand what was taking so long until I reached the cashier. I'll be nice but I'll just say that I really wasn't expecting to hear this girl's life story along with her family's and friend's. Each item was scanned but only before a story was told... I wished I ate less. I couldn't help but turn to my brother (who was being picked at by some kid fascinated by his fall jacket Like the kid has never seen one, he tries to brush him off but the kid just won't go away) and I start to laugh a little, as if saying "Is this for real"?!? I will say Piggly Wiggly (hehe) has a great selection and great prices, with service that you'll never forget. Be careful of the parking here, the lot gets a little tricky. You know with people form of transportation like goats, horses, and donkeys** around. **No actual farm animals around

I found this place at the Brookfield Wi Farmers market where they had a booth set up with freezers…read morefull of meat and tables topped with meat. The only reason I stopped is because I saw meat snack sticks in the coroner of my eye, when ever I see a new meat stick that I haven't tried I pick some up. The freezers had everything from bacon, brats, steaks, chops, ham and everything else but I didn't get any of the frozen meat because if I'm going to pay a premium vs grocery store for meat it has to be fresh and never frozen. Call me weird but if I pay good money for good meat I want it fresh especially steaks, veal and lamb because I'm going to cook them rare. They even had dog bones that looked really good if I was got. I had the jalapeño snack sticks because I like hot sticks but the jalapeño sticks didn't have very much heat compared to other brands that I have had. I also was not wowed by the meat sticks like I have been from other known good meat company's and thought that they were pretty average for the most part.

I ordered a 1/2 beef from a friend who uses cedar road as the butcher. The meat from my 1/2 beef…read morewas fabulous thanks to my friends ability to raise quality organically grown beef. My problem was with cedar road meats, you pay by the pound for hanging weight regardless of the amount of meat you get from the carcass which is fine I knew this going into this deal. My problem was with the ordering process, you go online and fill out how you want everything cut (ie steaks 1 inch thick, round steaks cubed or left alone etc). The order form asks if you want certain cuts or if you prefer it put into hamburger, also asks if you want to keep the heart, tongue or liver. This order form does not ask anything about the brisket, so assuming I get 1/2 beef it would come with the brisket from that 1/2. I went to pick up my meat and there was no brisket so I asked about it and was told "people usually specify if they want the brisket in the other notes area of the order form, I don't have a brisket today so I can get you one next week if you would like". I ended up having to drive 2 more hours the following week to pick up meat that should have been there the first time. This tells me they had already sold and made profit off of the brisket that was rightfully mine because they didn't have it available, makes me wonder what other parts of my 1/2 beef they skimmed from me? The integrity of this meat processor has me questioning because they tried to take part of what I paid to have processed without even consulting with me the customer who paid in full per pound hanging weight on a 1/2 beef, I should have been consulted rather than them assuming I wouldn't want my brisket as there is no place on the order form addressing the brisket.

I've only been for the donuts...........and the donuts are good!!…read more I'm a traveling businessman and I like to bring donuts to my clients when I visit them. But, admittedly, I am a donut snob. Having had a donut shop in my family while growing up, it was burned into my brain that "Big Donut" chains are garbage. You know what? They are. Do yourself a favor sometime, if you don't believe me. Use YELP! to seek out a good locally owned donut shop in your area. Stop in and buy a few. Then to to a "Big Donut" chain and buy a few comparable donuts for a taste test. You will notice the difference. As I do my research for the regions best donut shops, I found that this area of Wisconsin has little to nothing to offer by way of good local donut shops. Having discussed this with my customers over dinner, the night before our site meeting, they directed me, specifically, to the Mayville Piggly Wiggly. So, first thing in the morning, I found myself in Mayville. If you're not familiar, Piggly Wiggly is a grocery chain. Once I walked in to the Mayville location, I looked right and was staring down the appetizing end of a double barrel donut/pastry case. I walked over and with each step, I found that these donuts are larger than they appear. Very large donuts, overall. Big and delicious looking apple fritters. Dozens of donut goodness to choose from. I had them load up two boxes of a dozen each to take back to the plant. But, of course, I had to make my own personal assessment. I mean, what kind of guy would I be bringing in untested, unverified, undocumented donuts? I'd still be me but I would be proud of it, that's who! I tried a Cruller and a Fried Croissant. Both were delicious. Now the Cruller was different than I'm used to. I've always enjoyed a good French Cruller. This is a round donut, but almost braided looking. Like a tractor tire, almost. The Piggly Wiggly Cruller was straight and, slightly, banana shaped. It wasn't as light an airy as the French Cruller's that I'm used to but it was good in it's own right. The Fried Croissant, though good, wasn't as flaky as I'm used to from other places, but none of it was wasted. Please keep in mind that I am making comparisons. If you've been to enough donut shops, you know that certain donuts can vary from place to place and that's okay. So the differences that I've pointed out are not bad, but rather they are simply differences, that's all. My actual go-to litmus test for donuts are yellow cake (or vanilla cake) chocolate frosted round donuts. A very traditional staple that any donut shop should normally have. If you can get this right, you've automatically got more than half of my vote. Piggly Wiggly didn't have this kind of donut. Instead they had chocolate frosted chocolate cake donuts. Looked good but not the same. I cannot speak of the rest of this store. I went in on a mission. Spotted my target. Gathered the goods. Mission executed. I didn't really even notice anyone else in the store. Except........there was a sweetheart of a young lady working the Customer Service counter. As it was early and there were only one or two checkout lanes open, with people checking out, she called me over as she saw I didn't have much to check out. She didn't have to do that, but she did and she was extremely nice. Would I go back? I would. Not because it's really the only place to get some good donuts in the area, but it's because they are good donuts. The ladies at the counter were about as sweet as the donuts they're slinging and you'd be hard pressed to find a group of such delightful ladies at that time in the morning. Now get out and go get you some donuts!
