After last nights heavy drinking escapade on Johns Island, I woke up on the verge of death. Every box in the hangover column had been checked. Somehow, I rolled out of bed late this morning and drove to Food Lion in search of things that would alleviate the situation. In no time at all, I located sausage biscuits, advil, and Kinderlyte. During this time I had no less than three very pleasant interactions with their staff, who all were cheerful, helpful and talkative. I even stood in the parking lot and had a brief chat with the cart attendant. That's rare for me, especially considering the state I was in at the time. So if the management of this Food Lion location is reading this, know that you have an all star team working for you.

It was packed with only one checkout working, there was another with no light where a cashier begrudgingly rang up my groceries while on her cell phone. Worst was that I went to the water fountain and there was an army of ants crawling all over the drain . I looked for a manager but nobody was around. Was disappointing to say the least.

They don't have self checkout at this location and that causes really long lines at peak times. The deli here is always great and the store is generally very clean. They don't offer self checkout, and they have multiple 10 item or less lines open. So if I have 15 items like today, I'm stuck behind a lady buying 6 different orders. And half the milk and distilled water isle! I don't know what goes on here, but this is still one of the worst Publix in town...

Starting on Saturday the line is around the corner of the building with people waiting to get a deal. The warehouse is lined with wooden crates that are full of everything you can imagine from toys to blankets to household items. There are a couple of rules but they're pretty straight forward. Shopping: Adults 16 and older are given a large blue IKEA bag. Whatever you can fit in it you can buy for only $7! That's every single item in the store. Once the bag is full you have to pay but you can come back in as many times as you want. If there is a box you want opened to see inside just ask a store employee and they will be happy to help you. Opening it on your own will get you kicked out. Only a certain amount of people are allowed in at a time so you may have to wait. No large bags or purses are allowed inside so just bring your wallet. They take cash or card. Don't drag the blue bags because they will rip. Saturday's everything is $7, Sunday it's $5. Parking: parking is limited on busy days. The Goose Creek police are there on weekends to help with traffic control and making sure everyone behaves. Don't park in the local business parking spots or you'll get towed. You can line the roadway against the grass closer to the train tracks. Food: Yes! Food trucks are here on the weekend serving out delicious food for hungry shoppers. The staff is really friendly and helpful. You never know what you'll find hidden under the piles so have fun!

Lots of employees walking around, but nothing being put away. Yesterday when I went in, I was pretty upset with the check out. I purchased quite a few things and the cashier never once looked at me. She was talking to a friend off to the side. She scanned my stuff, never told me my total, handed me my bag and receipt and I went on my way. Again- NOT ONCE looking at me. How rude?!

Items at this store start at $1.25 however there were items priced at $3.00 and $ 5.00 as well, which might explain why some of the items seemed a little nicer than what I typically find in most dollar trees. This location feels more like an original Lowes Foods than a renovation of the previous store- this building has held quite a few grocery store chains in the last few years. Lowes has a loyalty program and sales occur from Wednesday-Tuesday. The hot food area, sushi, and deli have some great selections. If traffic is really terrible, hit the Beer Den and have a pint while you wait for things to clear up. Lowes Foods has specials several days a week and lots of local and regional beers are on tap. The selection is excellent, especially if you are looking for fresh and healthier options. I am completely obsessed with their chicken sausage. It is flavorful, feels like a healthier choice, and has quickly become a staple for me. One of my favorite finds was their orchid promotion. They had buy one get one free orchids, which ended up being a savings of about twenty dollars. Such a great deal for something that instantly brightens up your home. The only downside is that prices do run a bit higher than other grocery stores, so it may not be the place for all your shopping every week. That said, the quality, atmosphere, and unique offerings make it well worth the visit. I will definitely be back.
