That's extremely high for a basic item and not something I would have chosen if the price had been clearly posted. Transparency matters. Customers should be able to see prices upfront and make informed decisions. I hope the store improves this, because the current setup doesn't feel right.

We paid for our items, but looked back and an older non brown lady walked up and she was greeted and treated with decency. I've even dedicated whole birthdays - to visiting grocery stores. Perusing well stocked aisles - especially when the words 'organic' and 'natural' grace them - is where I often get my dopamine highs :) Recently Safeway has been serving up some solid grocery store finds. Their berry selection has been 'berry' good. In fact their blueberries are some of the best around. I will often stock up on multiple cartons and will even freeze some of them for cold fruity weekday snacks. In addition to carrying solid berries - their produce selection in general is varied and reliable. I still adore Grocery Outlet and many of the other quality grocery stores in and around the area - but when I have a basic shopping list - I know that Safeway knows what's up. Though the current handleless paper bags are definitely not serving. Anyone. Trust.

By 7:03, I was already being checked out. And yet the reaction from staff was... unbelievable. There were several employees standing at the front just staring at me--clearly irritated, like I'd personally ruined their evening. It was three minutes past closing. Not 30. Not 15. Three. Then it somehow got worse. They were out of bags (understandable), so I asked if I could use the hand basket to carry my items to my car, which was literally parked right in front of the doors to the store. I was told no, "these baskets cant leave the store"--and that I needed to go outside and get a cart instead. So I had to run out, grab a cart, and come back in... while the entire staff stood there watching me. There must have been 6 or 7 employees glaring at me with dirty looks like I had insulted them personally. The older checker was grumpy and rude, but honestly the whole team contributed to making the experience feel hostile and unwelcoming. I completely understand wanting to close on time. But if ringing someone up at 7:03 feels like a crisis to your staff, that's a management issue--not a customer problem. Also- why not sell reusable bags if you run out of bags so often?
