Review of Dollar General - July 17, 2025
I'm writing this review to share a deeply upsetting and unacceptable experience that occurred today at your store. What began as a simple shopping trip turned into a hostile and threatening encounter -- not only with another customer, but shockingly, with Dollar General staff themselves.
While attempting to park in a designated handicap spot (clearly marked by a handicap license plate), my mother and I were nearly hit head-on by another vehicle driving directly at us. I honked briefly -- not out of aggression, but to alert the driver to avoid a collision. Moments later, that same driver confronted me outside the vehicle, verbally harassing and insulting me, questioning our legal right to park there, and repeatedly escalating the situation with inappropriate language and threats.
This confrontation was witnessed by a male member inside the store, who did nothing until my mother and I entered the building -- at which point, he immediately began yelling at us, telling us to "get the f*** out" and accusing us of "starting sh**." Despite having no knowledge of what occurred outside, he became verbally abusive and physically threatening, screaming at me and aggressively approaching me in a confrontational manner. My mother stepped between us to de-escalate the situation, yet he continued screaming and even got chest-to-chest with her while calling her demeaning names.
During this disturbing episode, the cashier stood by and did nothing more than yell "stop," despite witnessing an older man verbally attacking and threatening a female customer. Two additional staff members -- the assistant manager James and the store manager -- eventually came to the front. Instead of intervening to protect our safety or address the male employee's violent behavior, they shouted at me, accused me of being intoxicated (completely false), and insisted I leave the store. The manager ultimately called the police and had me trespassed -- blaming me for the entire incident, while the aggressive, threatening employee faced no consequences.
At no point did any Dollar General employee step in to protect my mother or me. No one tried to de-escalate the situation with the male employee. No one even attempted to get the facts before taking action.
This entire experience was not only unprofessional -- it was unsafe. Customers should never have to fear for their safety, nor should they be verbally abused or threatened inside a store. Dollar General management at this location completely failed to uphold basic standards of customer service, safety, and accountability.
I hope this review prompts Dollar General's corporate leadership to take a serious look into the culture and conduct at this store, and to implement appropriate training and disciplinary actions where necessary.
