Unfortunately this store has aged rotting produce on the shelves for prices that are almost as high as Publix. The signs all over the store say "Produce checked twice daily." If this statement is true, then they are ignoring all the rotting produce on the shelves when they "check twice daily". Everytime my husband and I go, it's always been a good experience for us. The meats are much cheaper than Publix and Walmart (Walmart Meat isn't good quality) I get my produce here, I pickle vegetables and everything has always been fresh and appealing. This place is amazing. After moving here from the Midwest I've struggled to find good meat and produce. Stumbled on this place by accident and am in shock. Phenomenal selection of produce. Widest selection I've seen in the area and a good depth of choice. They must have had 300 fresh zucchinis for instance. The meat appears to all be cut in the store and packaged. Great selection from the common to more unique options. And the prices are really impressive. I was just looking time not really shopping fur anything in particular and left with 4 grocery bags of meat and vegetables. Cashiers are rude, will not greet with a Hello, more importantly they will not tell you the total, instead will look at you as if you should have seen the total on the screen, it happened 3 days in a row, I had to ask what's the total. When it comes to buying groceries, there are usually two options: buy at a huge grocery chain or a small local grocery and/or farmers market. What I like about Thrifty Specialty Produce is the fact it is in-between. It has the size and stock of a huge grocery chain but the prices and selection of local groceries and/or farmers markets. This is not limited to grocery products such as produce either as they do have canned goods and meats. And I will be a bit biased here, it is literally like five minutes away from where I live. It is not hard to miss as it is one of he bigger stores in a strip mall located on the southeast corner of the Lake Washington Rd. and Wickham Rd. intersection. If it helps, it is next to LA Fitness. Anyways, upon entering, you'll see the setup is produce on the right, meats in the far back, alcohol just in front of meats on the right side, dairy on the back wall on the right, eggs and certain cuts in cold cases, a deli and bakery on the right, canned goods and products in front of the cash registers. Starting with the produce section, you have your basic selection of fruits and vegetables, but remember this is a "specialty" produce store. So you got veggies and fruits catered to more foreign tastes like bok choy and bittermelon. The same can be said about the meats in which basic cuts found in butcher departments at your local Publix or Walmart are present, but they also have ox tail, lamb, and even chicken feet. Dairy and canned goods and products are limited to more foreign selections, specifically Spanish brands. In my opinion, the best part of Thrifty Specialty Produce is the bakery and deli section in the back. You can order sandwiches, combo lunches, and baked goods for lunch or dinner. A lot of it is a hit, some can be a miss (like the Cuban sandwich which surprises me). Ultimately, my favorite place to shop for general produce and groceries. Always stock up on broccoli and bok choy here. read more

The have take out to offer as well thou I will definitely need to look into as I was in a rush . The store is well lit and clean . This is my first negative review of this, otherwise, great place for Caribbean food. Their prices, like others have noted, are great and so is the food. However, I would recommend you be careful with their soups. Today's soup had an awful sour water smell. This made me throw it out because it was so bad. I used to work in a restaurant and I know this smell very well. It is caused by not replacing the water filter. There is no way for you to sample the soups so I would recommend you buy the smallest container you can get. Then sample that and then make a full size purchase. I wish they could let you at least smell it before you buy it but it doesn't work that way. read more

Much bigger store than the Merritt island one but holy cow these staff are so rude and I think prejudiced. They have a good selection of stuff in a big store but I am just blown away by the staff. I showed up 30 minutes before close and nobody would help me at the bakery and when I finally got someone's attention they told me "well it's closed, no I won't help you". They wouldn't even check me out at that register and made me go to another. Too bad. read more

The presentation was good. It was nicely wrapped and individual packed. The pork is so very dry and difficult to swallow. There is flavor but I for sure have had much better. The empanadas were dry. The shell is great but the meat on both the chicken and beef are dry and over cooked. There was good portion size but small portion on the beans. The cola was cool but not cold. A fairly new store at this location. It is their second store, the first was in Palm Bay. I am only visiting the area, but I can tell its a good addition to the neighborhood. They have lots of imported Latin foods, a bakery, a sandwich bar, a hot food bar that serves breakfasts too, meat, produce, and more. They do not have tables to sit and eat, so everything is to go. I went by the bakery and food bar three times and found the staff helpful and ready to serve you. I ended up getting the combo. You get a choice of the type of rice, a choice of the type of beans, a choice of sweet fried plantain or tostones, and a main meat item. I really liked it that they seal it up in plastic. Most places tuck the tabs in and your on your own to manage that in traffic. Cost was $5.45 plus tax total $6.31. They mound it up high, then push down the lid, and seal it. There was easily enough food for two. Or a senior could eat that for a good while! The pork was great! All the rest except the tostones good too. The tostones were too hard and too dry for me, but Im not a tostone expert so excuse me if thats the way they should be. Im tempted to go back for breakfast but Im staying over 5 miles away and I have things to do! One photo shows the size as I sat it buy a one gallon jug of water. By itself its hard to judge the size, so I put in the water jug. Since I dont live here I wasnt doing much other shopping but I did notice yellow onions in a 3 pound bag on special for $1.50, and Puerto Rican style ground coffee in the one pound vacuum pack for $1.98 on sale this week. Well I wish this place was closer to us. This past weekend, I was visiting my family and Melbourne and my mom send me to the this place to grab some items for the weekend. At first I was against to make the drive all the way up to this location since is about 20 min from my mom house, when I can just go down the street to Walmart. Said this was the cheapest place in town and by far the best quality on everything from meat, vegetables to basically al the essentials. So listened to mom(who doesn't) and jump in my car and drove there. What a surprise I had, this place have everything, when I say everything mean it. They have products from Mexico on stock that I haven't seen in a while I was very excited. You can also pre order food for the next day. Since mom was having a party the next day I ordered a pernil(pork shoulder) and arroz con gandules, for 6 people for only $40 booom you can't beat that price. The people there is very friendly and helpful. I also found this pre made sopes that you can trow in oil and fry them and they are ready to go. This place is the best and soooo cheap. If I could give negative stars I would. I came here when they first opened and was appalled by their high prices on produce. On my next trip I was a little put off by all the freezer burned frozen meats. However I was convinced to give them another try by someone who raved about the quality and price of the fresh meat. After waiting a few minutes for help I watched the fish guy clean a couple fish for a customer and then, without changing a glove, washing a hand or using a scoop, reached his fishy paw into the ice bin and shovel ice into the bag. I don't care if it was designated ice for fish or not, that's just gross. Third time is the charm. read more

This is a very nice store located in a shopping center on the corner of lake Washington and Wickham. The have fresh produce which I prefer to the other big stores in the area. It is fresher, tastier, and best of all eeasonably oriced. The meats are also good here and they have a good selection. The also have international products available if thats your thing. I love Thrifty Speciality Produce. They're prices are very comparable to major supermarket chains, if not cheaper for most items. They have a wide variety of local and exotic produce. I mean if you're looking for something unique, this is a place to find it. Some of the speciality produce you won't find at Publix or Walmart can pretty much always be found here. They just a great selection of produce, meats and poultry as well. They also have a seafood market, which sells fresh and packaged seafood, though I've never tried any of their seafood. I have however purchased poultry and meats on many occasions, and have found everything to be fairly priced and fresh. They also offer spices, seasonings, canned foods, rice and other items with an emphasis on Spanish/ Latin food/ products. I do see a small selection of wine and beer in the store now. They have a meat and cheese deli and I have had some cold cuts and everything has been very good. But, I absolutely love their hot deli foods! If you love Spanish food, this is a great place to get a nice generous meal for a low price. My favorite is the pork (pernil) with rice and pigeon bean (arroz con gandules) with a side of plantains (tostones). They have such a variety of hot foods and a nice large styrofoam box will cost you a little over $5. They also serve up empanadas, and tamales, both of which are tasty and inexpensive. Lastly, they have a bakery that serves baked goods, though I've never tried anything. Overall, this place is a good resource for the "thrifty" shopper. read more

When you say your open till 7pm on Sunday. You should be open till 7!! Arrived at Melbourne Lake Washington store at 6:40pm. As I walked up to the doors they shut and locked me out. They were waving me off aggressively as I continued to the door trying to tell them I neede 2 things 5 minutes and out, while the manager and employees began yelling loudly "we're closed" and waving me away. I tried to point out its 20 minutes to close and they just blew me off. Not a good way to retain my business of about $150 every 2 weeks. In fact store employees and managers were walking out in groups with bags of groceries as I sat in my care and they glared at me as I took a pic of them and my watch. Which was still before 7.
