The outside space around the front of the store was the worst I've seen in years. It was not just garbage from one busy shopping day, the garbage out front was old. The store is a dump. I picked up 4 items and the shelf tags for all varieties said $1.25. I matched up the item # with the tags just to make sure. I walked up to the register and the customer in front of me said nicely to the gray-haired female clerk "I have a return." The register clerk rolled her eyes and said "Oh, great." I walked to the next self-service checkout and the first item rang up at double the price. I mentioned it to the same clerk and she said "What do you want from me?". Instead of buying one, I set 3 aside and paid double the shelf-marked price for the one package. I set another item, because that came up at the wrong price too. I purchased two items in total, instead of 6. read more

For a store this size(used to be a smaller supermarket), it should have everything a "dollar store" shopper could want, but I've gone there quite a few times and have left without some of the things I shop for on a Fri. afternoon after work coming home from the bank. A few times it's the pet supplies that are not stocked the way they should be. I have two cats and today I had to get some individual cans just to get through a couple of days, but I usually buy a 12 can box of Friskies cans or some Meow mix 12 cup packs and even some Ever Pet pouch packs and today they had absolutely none of either on the shelf. I also purchase the 10 lb bags of ever pet clay litter for a dollar and usually get two or three of them and today they had none. Also, the lines at the checkout can exceed 10 people or more. Of course, naturally, only one register is open during rush hour on a Fri. late afternoon. The store in Eatontown on 35 is usually much better and is probably less than half the size. Better organized too and less messy. The dollar store in Oakhurst on 35 is a bit better as well. I'll still keep visiting, but they really should be aware that pet supplies are a huge reason why people shop at the dollar store and they never should be out of everything at once. They were a bit low on can goods as well and they stopped selling the canned meatballs in sauce which I loved, damn it! LOL!! The company may have gone out or just discontinued the item, but I miss them! 2.5 stars. In fairness, it's a dollar store, so what can you expect, but there are a few better! I don't understand why these companies don't offer self checkout services. It's the way to go. read more

I come here whenever I stop at La Scarpetta next door, since the only thing that gets garlicky pizza out of the mouth is gum, and they have gum. Dollar General is, first and foremost, NOT a "dollar store". If you've never been here or somehow never heard of the place, DG is a chain of "discount stores" that sells household goods, soft drinks, snacks, and everything in between. Some of the prices are actually pretty good, others are so-so. If you're a weirdo like me and enjoy shaving with an old fashioned double-edged safety razor, they sell 5 packs of blades here for a buck - pretty good if you need some in a hurry. The bad news is that this location could use a little help. First off, while not really "dingy", the joint COULD use a fresh coat of paint and maybe some new flooring, it's a little on the dirty side. Also, either they're continuously restocking shelves or I go during the worst times, because without fail there will *always* be a stocking cart full of merchandise in at least 1 isle, with nobody unloading it. On top of that, the POS system here must be a real p.o.s. alright, because without fail I'll be stuck in a "line" of 3-4 people that somehow manages to take several minutes to go through. People who are buying 5 items, tops, and it always somehow becomes an ordeal with a manger running over to clear the register out or fix a price, etc. All this could be forgiven if not for my latest discovery. A dreaded $1 "Convenience fee" for requesting cash back on my debit card purchase. I didn't buy a ton of merchandise this trip, I'll admit - about $5.50 worth, and that was only because I felt bad when I realized I had an empty wallet with which to buy a $1 pack of gum. Still, debit transactions cost far less to a retailer than credit, and it's a real slap in the face to get banged for a dollar just for getting cash back. It's made even worse by the fact that my bank reimburses me for all ATM fees, so I could have just walked next door and used the ATM for free. I think I'll be buying my gum from 7-11 from now on, or possibly eating something with less garlic. No, definately the first thing. read more

This dollar general is the best store ever! If you guys that are complaining don't like it then don't shop there!! You must be very picky therefore go to a place that better serves your needs. Unlike me i care less about what goes on in the store. I see everyone working the best they can. If the manager does not or cannot hire more people don't blame him. The point is the merchandise does get put away eventually or sold. I am thankful to GOD for this store because i cannot afford like other people to go to walmart, Kmart, ect..... I find everything i need at an affordable price here at Dollar General. I do not complain , i am forever thankful for them. Yeah don't waste your time 15 minutes lines no matter what time of the day, extremely rude staff, unorganized, under stocked, under staffed, and disgustingly filthy dirty. Was in there in the middle of July 100 degrees out and no AC in the store. Finally, it's not even priced reasonable better off going to the dollar store off Rt 36 in W.L.B so you've been warned! read more

Dollar General is a good basic store for your general needs. They sell most of the basics at good prices. The store is clean and the employees are usually very friendly. Been here probably 40-50 times and never had an issue. read more

Yea about this store.....I've lived around the block my entire life from here where it was once a Cost Cutters. It's sad to say even the outdated Cost Cutters store was better than this Dollar General. The service is outright horrendous. Every time I go there for things I need to quickly pick up, I make sure my expectations are low. Many women there are snappy and have an extreme attitude as if they are doing you a favor for simply checking you out and doing their job. They are constantly understaffed. I've waited in a "line" for 10 minutes before someone actually came to one of the registers. I once tried to call in to see if they had a holiday item in stock, emphasize the tried part, and with no success. It started with me calling 4-5 times with no answer at all to finally call the 6th time to have my phone call quickly dismissed by a lady who just did not feel like doing her job and/or was understaffed. She said she couldn't help me since she has a long line at the register (to which I may point out that they always have a long line since, as I said before, they are always "busy" talking in the back or understaffed). I've called other similar businesses and each one was very helpful to the same question for my quest for the holiday item except for this Dollar General. This was the only store that basically refused to help me and inferred I had to figure it out myself. That's just horribly customer service based on that phone call alone. This store has no regard to customer service. I've witnessed employees inappropriately yelling personal and work things across the store. Now I've also had a few friendly employees there but the fact that someone continues to hire these nasty people who are doing the bare minimum of their job still fazes me. I just want management to see this or someone because honestly this problem should be fixed. I doubt that the Dollar General chain wants their store to be represented by this. I won't go to mention the store itself and how it's sometimes chaotic and messy even, this is just he service I'm discussing. I was in the Dollar General in Eatontown, NJ. I spend quite a bit of money there for various items. It is always well stocked and for the most part the staff is great. I am also very polite in dealing with the staff. Last week I wanted to switch one item for another I had already purchased after reviewing my receipt. It required a Manager's OK. The manager on duty came out of the back room and the first thing out of her mouth was that I was interrupting her break. Her employee had a better customer service attitude than she did. I feel it is very unprofessional to behave like a child and show your personal moods in while customers are present. She switched my item with a frown. I guess she needed me to know I was inconveniencing her on her break. I spend a lot of money there and I was polite to her. Sometimes in a management position you are inconvenienced. If that is a problem...Quit!!! Please!!! read more
