For a moment, I thought this could be the new XS Cargo--a Canadian discount chain that closed down several years ago and I have longed for the return of. I was aware that many Amazon products that are returned get sold to liquidators, so I entered the store with expectations of pretty competitive pricing. What I found was a pretty broad collection of cheaper-quality products at, what seemed like retail or near-retail prices. In spite of signage assuring me otherwise, the discounts that I saw just quite didn't rationalize the purchase price for me. After all, some of these products may even be defective Amazon returns and the savings just weren't substantial enough to take that risk. While the products may indeed be acquired through a liquidation sale, or Amazon palette auction model, the price that consumers like me see doesn't quite reflect that. It feels like someone's making a handsome markup here.

Obviously I need to update that picture with one when they're actually open, because when they are open it's crazy busy. Nevertheless, there she is in all her glory. Open every Sunday from 9-5pm, the hours of a true Flea Market, and boasting an admission price of only $0.25 I believe. You too can partake in the adventure of a lifetime. This place has it all, and none of that dollar store crap. I've found so many amazing deals here that I actually have to restrain myself from going every week. They usually even have local farmers selling produce outside. There are 3 giants rooms filled with booth after booth and you can easily kill a few hours here. Take your time and look carefully, there's a lot of junk in there and you really have to scan through everything to find the gold. They also have a small restaurant, which doesn't really have much that I can eat other then fries, but it's there if you need it. One quick tip: If you drive around to the back of the building, you should be able to find a decent parking place because no one seems to think there's parking back there, along with a separate entrance.

However, there are tables of boxes of different sizes and then in the same table there are open packages of items. Most boxes aren't marked with what's inside of them. The only way to find out is to take the boxes to a counter where staff will open them for you. I understand that people are careless and probably leave things a mess. But if this is the only way to see what's inside the box, why wouldn't they take the time to actually write what is inside of the box before you take it over? I walked past so many items that probably were great, but I really did not want to stand in line and wait for their staff to open up every box. The pricing leaves something to be desired as well. I understand that there are discounts according to the day, but you would go in on a Thursday and get the items for $.50, and on a Friday the exact same items are $12? Seriously? I know many people enjoy this kind of store but I can honestly say this is not for me.

The last time I was here was yesterday for their October 2016 sale. I went on the last day of the October sale, and I found that the selection wasn't as good as from their sales about a year ago. First off, there wasn't much selection for women, and a lot of their merchandise are for guys. Last year, I was able to find a $10 warm hoodie, but now, the cheapest one I could find was $40 and I got the last piece with my right size. My fiance was able to purchase many hoodies, and there was a lot in stock - for guys. This time though, I was impressed by the abundance of Timberland shoes, I was able to purchase a couple of men's boots for my fiance with a good price. I checked my receipt and the calculated average of savings I get is 50%. I would recommend still checking this place out, as this is a big warehouse sale, and they have a lot of different types of clothing to shop for. They have hoodies, sweaters, t-shirts, work-out clothes, work pants, winter boots, safety shoes, winter jackets, golf apparels, even beauty products and jewelery! I first discovered Uncle Terry's from the Ex. From their name and branding it gives an impression…read morethat they've been around for a while (give me a bit of Honest Ed's feel, I don't know why) but it's actually been about 2 years and this location near Kensington Market being their newest. When you come in, it does give a slight attic smell, which I don't mind. They told me they usually restock on Thursdays and the other location by Sterling Road usually carries even more inventory. I purchased a shiatsu massager and back up Aukey earphones that were new in package from the Ex. However, the earphones didn't work. The great thing is they are one of the few or probably only liquidators that I know that allows for a 7 day return if there's an issue. Normally most discount liquidators I've been to, it's pretty much the final sale. I wasn't able to visit within 7 days, but did send them an email with the issue with the earphones so they extended the warranty for me to come in within the end of the month to get store credit or exchange, which I'm so grateful for. Apparently they sold hundreds of those earphones and only a few came back with issues. I was able to drop by yesterday after work and decided to exchange for another shiatsu massager for my in-laws. What I appreciate about this spot is that it's relatively organized in shelves with multiple copies of an item. There are bargain bins too for $5 if you really want to search for any deals and treasures. I much prefer than other liquidators where usually things are thrown in bins and you don't know exactly what it is until you open it. The staff there was also super patient and friendly. Definitely if you're in the area peek in and see if you score any deals. They will be moving back inventory from the Ex today and the pricing seems to be the same. Though they might offer tax off discounts with cash at the Ex but not at the store.

They've torn the daily prices off the big signs, but it's supposedly 3 dollars on Tuesdays. There's a terms and conditions posted on the front door. No opening things without a team member (if you can find one), no refunds. We maneuvered around a pile of mismatched carts through the cleaner half of the store stocked with higher price kitchen gear and beauty products to the back room bumping radio tunes. There were tables littered with taped up online returns, most from marketplace type vendors based off the labels we tried to decipher off the side. (The internet helps typing in some of these titles to help the guessing game.) I noticed some packages still had the names of the original buyers on them as well. We shuffled through it all, finding mostly junk. I may have been a bit more picky than the others, only getting a dish rack that comes with no assembly instructions. I think it caught the cashier off guard, as I set it on the counter and waited two minutes before he realized I was buying it and that he needed to set his phone down. I paid my 3 cash with a 20 and he struggled to make change for another solid minute, mumbling at us. My mates were able to pay by card, albeit with a convenience fee. When I had excused myself to the bathroom, I found that there was no soap and no towels available. Ended up shaking my hands to dry them off. I'm shaking my head too, that no, we will not be coming back. Maybe it would be different on a restock day at the higher price, but with Goodwill and Savers right up the road, this traffic battle ain't worth it.
