Terrible customer service. I was calling to inquire about a storage over the phone and he was too lazy to quote me prices and told me to look online. I informed him and was driving and didn't have access to in which he replied 'oh that's illegal to drive and talk on the phone' ummm since when are you the law? They don't pay you enough to act like law enforcement. second of all I'm using Bluetooth which is hands free. At that point, you just lost a potential customer. I'd never rent from this location after that or recommend anyone to them. 0/10 read more

I just got off the phone with Tina. Not only is she RUDE, she is obscene and vulgar. She lacks regard for the customer and in return has ZERO customer service. In my attempt to straighten out my account after being in the hospital, and therefore unable to pay my storage fees, she cut me off, was condescending, a a completely volatile person. She began the conversation in a nice, friendly, and helpful manner until she pulled up my account. I will let everyone know on social media, yelp, etc. to avoid your Phoenix location on Peoria Ave., because Tinamarie ~ Relief Manager, at Dollar Self Storage is a condescending, impolite, and crude. I will gladly relocate my belongings than to tolerate someone incapable of COMMON people skills and communication. read more

I have just recently moved to this area and needed a storage place for just a short period of time. I asked around my new neighborhood for referrals and without fail, was constantly "warned" about this specific place. Whether it was the homeless people that management allowed to sleep in and do drugs in vacant units, theft directly from existing units, or the rude and racist management. Being African-American myself, I decided go in with a small apprehension, but figured that people gossip, and I'd see for myself. I stepped in on a Saturday and, first of all, was completely ignored by a woman named ARLENE. I waited quietly and patiently, figuring she was busy working on something important and she knew I was there. 7 minutes went by and nothing... not even a, "please hold on for a moment and I'll be right with you" - nothing. Not until I went back up to the counter and very pleasantly said, "I'm sorry, I know you must be very busy, but I'm inquiring about pricing on some units." Barely making eye contact with me she stated, "WE HAVE NOTHING AVAILABLE FOR YOU PEOPLE" What people??? Because I'm black? Because I'm a woman? What did that even mean?! She never asked about what size, or length of time, or a possible wait list, she offered nothing. Completely awestruck, I simply walked out of there. I found out at a recent neighborhood watch meeting talking to other people, that that place specifically refuses to rent units to Mexicans and African Americans. We are currently working on a legal complaint with the Attorney General, as some of my neighbors have actual footage of her behavior towards other races, and pictures of homeless people sleeping in vacant units along with needles and pipes. All date and time stamped. Just be aware of the business they run- and run to another storage facility. It's just so sad that people think they have the right to act like that towards paying customers. Aren't we done with racism??!! Don't all people deserve respect? My storage unit was robbed. The dollar amount of the loss was more than ten times the insurance payout. What I lost in terms of personal history was even worse. The police wouldn't even come to the scene to file a report; they told me the gang activity in the area is so severe they couldn't take the time for my incident. It turns out that my loss was the result of gang activity. The staff ran away from me when I originally reported the loss. I now realize they had a lot of information that could have helped recover my loss or to at least catch the thieves. Instead they froze me out and wouldn't even record the crime occurred in their own records. People camp out in their lockers and come out at night and make as much noise as they want breaking into other units. I know this because I saw such a person sitting in an empty locker, waiting for the facility to close. He sat in the unit with the door open and glared at me when I looked in at him. He was making no attempt to hide. No attempt was made to look up the owner of the unit in which he was camping. This was a crime that could have been solved but I think Dollar knows exactly what happened. They have changed the locks now but I don't think that will help, not if the thieves openly camp in empty lockers. How do you suppose they get access? The final insult, the thing that just fills me with nausea and rage was the damage from the rats. The thieves took what they wanted and they stomped the rest. I had to sort through this mess which was thoroughly covered with rat urine and feces. I've lived in Phoenix a long time, long enough to know that once rats find their way in to a place they will always be there. They leave scent trails that cannot be obliterated. Kill as many as you can, there will always be more to follow the trail and rebuild the nest. If that doesn't sound appealing to you look for newer construction and avoid older neighborhoods. I wish I could post pictures here. I almost vomited from what I found. You have been warned. read more

This is a clean and secure place. I only used secured units, so I can't evaluate the RV or bus storage. I moved into a huge unit, out of a big 4 bedroom house, and over the course of a year, shrunk my belongings down to a small unit. Every time I moved units, the office folks were so nice and understanding. My moves created a lot of paperwork for them, but they did not complain one bit. It seems the old reviews involved people no longer working or that I never met, for sure. The driveways are always clean. You have to punch code in and punch code out. It is a bit weird to me to see pedestrians and bikers scoot in, but there are several who store their few possessions in a small unit, I guess. And lots of blue collar workers getting in and out with their crews, so it makes sense. The locks required are unique and can't be cut off, but you do have to buy one in the office, and it likely only works in specific kinds of other storage units. I like the cameras that are everywhere, as I was often alone and kept my eyes peeled, just as I do everywhere. read more
