The first time I was here was when I was a toddler in the 90s, and now I'm old enough to see what they have, and yes I've been here a few times. This store has a huge clothing section, and limited selections of pajamas, slippers, undergarments, luggage, bath towels, table cloths, kitchen supplies, and shower curtains. Most of the areas were very organized, but the kitchen supply area was a little messy. But then again, I don't come here for that. So what do I come here for? It depends, but usually it's for pajamas, table cloths, and shower curtains. But I don't get all of them in one visit. Sure, I can get those anywhere, but why here? REALLY LOW PRICES. Other stores would charge higher for these items, including Wal*Mart, but because these are closeouts, you won't expect to spend A LOT on just one item. Regardless of brands and low pricing, I've never had a major issue with anything that I got here. Keep in mind that because this is a closeout store, what they have on the shelves and racks is all they've got. During my recent visit, I needed to see if they had any short-sleeved pajamas as mine were getting close to being worn out. But all I saw were the winter ones, and when I asked to see if they had any, they politely told me that what they receive and stock is all they've got. I was disappointed, but I understood. Maybe they'll have it next time or something. But I didn't walk out empty-handed though. I was able to get a new table cloth at a cool price since my old one was just way too out-dated. Customer service is always fine. Overall it's a really fine store. I will always stop here whenever I'm in the area, particularly when I'm coming back from Ikea or Jersey Gardens Mall via US 1 & 9.

ShopRite of Carteret has been around for decades as the main source of food for those living in Carteret. To get your groceries elsewhere you'd need to go to Linden or Woodbridge. Pros: they've remodeled their prepared foods section a few years ago and there are a lot of tasty looking options, because of the local demographics there is a plethora of hard to find Indian and Hispanic cooking ingredients, there is a very large selection all around (I typically shop at Wegmans and while they have everything I need, sometimes they don't have certain brands or new items that I want and shoprite does). Cons: there is a dingy feel but it's not a dirty store (probably due to it just being very old and not updated), there is a very mixed bag of clientele here which is a good thing but sometimes it's hard to know what to expect, cashiers are ok- most are high school students which is fine but for the most part their priority isn't your shopping experience it's talking to their friend one line over, I've had multiple experiences where I was charged for someone else's item or the cashier did not use the coupons I gave or they rang up the same item multiple times even though I was only purchasing one- not a huge deal and they can take care of it at the courtesy counter but this literally always happens here and nowhere else. The biggest issue I have is that a manager needs to be called for every little function that is out of a normal transaction, this includes but is not limited to: use of food stamps (common in Carteret), use of checks, price discrepancy, etc, this really makes the line super slow. The produce also tends to go bad before the produce from any other store I shop in, and the selection of organic foods is very small but is at least increasing. 3/5

By the time I made it through one section of the store, I was sweating like I had just run a marathon in July. Forget trying on clothes--I was trying to stay conscious. The employees looked just as miserable. The poor guy at the register looked ready to faint barely 20 minutes into his shift. I honestly felt bad for him. To make matters worse, even the manager mentioned how unbearable the heat was and practically begged me to tell someone because the staff is suffering. I don't know if the air conditioning was broken or if there simply isn't any, but something needs to be done. Customers shouldn't need electrolyte drinks and a cooling vest just to browse for socks. Great prices, but the temperature inside felt like Primark: The Oven Edition. Please turn the AC on before someone melts into the floor.

The store had just opened so I was one of the first ones to get their juice. I saw that the man was not wearing gloves but didn't care much at this point since he was just cleaning up from last pour. Next he started the machine to rinse it out with wayer, without wearing gloves. Basically using his bare hands to clean the machine. He proceeded to stick his finger in the spout where the juice comes out from. He started cutting the lime and ginger without his gloves. At this point I lost my appetite because his nails were long and he had accidentally cut part of his nail off, pulled it off and threw it somewhere. I was so grossed out that I walked back in the store and asked for the refund. I let the cashier know what happened and nobody seemed to care. Awfully disappointed and disgusted. It was the perfect gift for a friend. The location that was near me did not have it in stock, so one of the employees there advised me to call up the other surrounding Five Below stores to see if they have it. I saw that the Woodbridge Five Below didn't close until 9:30 pm and called at 8:59 pm. I asked if they had any Linkin Park posters in stock, the woman on the other side said, "I don't know but you can come in the store to see for yourself". I asked if she could go and check for me, she replied saying that she is at the front register and is not able to leave to check for me. I asked to speak to a manager and the woman on the phone said that she was the manager. I then explained to her that I didn't live close to that location and just wanted to make sure the poster was there before I made that drive. She said again she can't leave the front register and there was only one other employee working the floor. So I asked again, if that other employee could just please check if the poster was there. She said "she will try and get the other person on the floor to check". I was then placed on hold and that was the last time I would speak to anyone on that phone call. I was even able to drive all the way to the Woodbridge location and speak to said manager face to face while still being on hold. Unlike 'the manager', I was very polite during the call and respectful even when speaking in person. I walked into the Woodbridge store around 9:15 pm with my phone on speaker with the hold music playing aloud. I walked up to the front register asked for the name of the manager that I spoke to over the phone. She realized I was the person who called about the poster and told me that there were no Linkin Park posters left. After verifying that she is in fact the manager and that there were no posters like she said, I thanked her and told her to have a good night. Even as I left the store, I was still on hold!! The call lasted from 8:59 pm to 9:49 pm, 58 mins. Let's not forget that they close at 9:30 pm. I really can't understand why I was met with such a nasty attitude when this all could've been avoided if she took 30 seconds to check if one poster was in stock at her store. Maybe someone with that demeanor isn't suited to be the manager.

There were a few people working the floor. They had a nice selection of Easter items (perfect for my students) and many different candies. Was able to get a good haul! They did convert to self check out. All in all a nice five below!
