I knew that we had a pay a visit while in town. What a great experience! Schroeder's has been open since 1891. While I loved learning about their history...it's a great place to shop. Schroeder's has a coffee house, men's and women's clothing, a yarn shop, bookstore, a toy store, souvenirs and all sorts of other merchandise. I bought a few books and a pair of moccasin slippers. My friends bought t-shirts and a puzzle. The people working the store were helpful, friendly and truly passionate about Schroeder's history. This is a store that has managed to stay true to its heritage, but stay relevant. If you're in the Manitowoc/Two Rivers area, Schroeder's Department Store is a must stop kind of place. This was my first visit to this location. Not know the exact layout of everything, I asked several…read morestaff questions during my visit. Some staff were restocking, others were chitchatting and the others were at the service desk and pharmacy. All of the staff I encountered were irritated and responded passive-aggressive manner in their word choices and tone. O was traveling with a family member who recently had surgery limiting their ability to walk long distances. We chose to go to Walmart because we expected the ridding wheeled cart would o be available. None of the ridding wheeled carts (of which there were only 3) were charged or working. I noticed several staff using the carts, around the store and behind the service desk. I completed understand their need to support team members. However staff and customer needs should be balanced. If you are in the area and this store is the closest Walmart, I would choose another location (in Fond du Lac, Green Bay or Sheboygan) or go to Meijer.

The only thing that keeps me from giving it the full 5 stars is that their selection is pretty sparse. I know that it isn't the largest store in the world, but it takes about 30 minutes to peruse through. They do have a great selection of new books and are usually very up-to-date when it comes to that. The prices are a little higher as it usually is with Book World - but you cannot put a price on that new-book smell.

The classes the Manitowoc site offers are excellent. If you want to see how fun they are, photos are displayed on their website. You get to take home your finished project to decorate your home or give as a gift. They have a large selection of everything you might be looking for as decorations for your home or garden, such as fairy garden and gnome house supplies. There are larger patio or garden decorations too, Take in the art work, air plants, and don't forget specialty gifts. Don't forget to enjoy the scents from the tea corner. They are just to die for! If you are in for a relaxing place to look for ideas that will look just perfect for your plain corner or nook, or would look just great in the yard for years to come, stop in and let the Ivy Trails experience soothe away your winter blues and longing for summer(or at least a piece of it for your home until the real thing gets here).

I have been to this store many times, always had a positive experience until today. I walked in and…read morewas greeted by the typical "can I help you find something?" I said no just looking. As I am looking through all the games and trying to find ones that I have on my wishlist that I have pulled up on my phone I was suddenly asked "do you plan on making money off of me?" I was shocked that a store owner actually assumed I was looking for games just to turn around and sell them for a higher price. I kind of shrugged the comment off just thinking this guy is a total asshole. After awhile I had found some games I wanted to buy, I gave him the games to hold on to as I continued to shop. One of the games I handed him to purchase had a price sticker of $20 on it. I wasn't aware of how much it was worth but he came back and said "I double check the price of each game I sell and this one is worth $50 so I'm changing the price to $50 because I see your on Pricecharting.com checking the prices as well." (Pricecharting.com is a website that tells you what the average price of a game is worth.) I asked him "so every game in your store that has a price tag on it is not the accurate price since you change prices at the time of checkout." He answered YES. I mentioned his policy is just wrong and he was an ass and walked out without buying anything. I will never step foot in this store again. Sad thing is I've been going to this store every time I come up to Manitowoc, WI. and have found good stuff and spent a good amount of money at his store purchasing games for my collection but never again. Being asked if I was there to "make money off of him", assuming I was a reseller and randomly changing prices on inventory while checking out is not a place I would like to visit and support ever again, so he can take his STOCKPILE of GAMES and shove it up his greedy ass.
