7/6/26 First Visit…read more Parking 5/5 Plenty of parking during lunch hour today. Selection 5/5 I really wasn't sure what to expect today. This was a whimsical visit after enjoying lunch at Panera Bread. Curious about this Japanese company I sauntered inside I saw a bright new store with vibrant colors and numerous well laid out long isles largely running front to back. Lots of things to take after a gaze and for a photo. Then there were the kitchen wares, a new set of four chopsticks for work, food products, Roman's, noodles, drinks, candies that interested me. I ended up with some kitchen drawer organizers, a few drinks, some candy to try and my chopsticks. Value 4/5 It is hard for me to compare to the fantastic variety of quality big box Pacific Rim grocery stores and malls we have in the east valley where I typically buy in bulk. But for a neighborhood convenience market it's probably a good value. Service 3/5 Fast & Friendly service. For a newbie first visitor someone could have welcomed me and introduced me to their store. They were completely out of bags for bagging your purchases so off I went juggling what I did buy. You neighborhood Japanese store my friends-SYOY!

Nifty home and kitchen gadgets too! Japanese candies and snacks up by the registers. They even had a refrigerated section to get drinks. I had a great time looking through this store.

My rating is purely on the management and how he handled me as a customer…read more The guy that was managing the stores seem to want to make more of a case and the fact that he wanted an apology for thinking that I was mocking him (for being him or what he said or something). Granted I was not having a good day and out of PTSD meds but as much as I try to keep it on the downside, the manager/guy at cash register... wanted to make it all about him being gay (or something) (In my state of mind I couldn't figure out his reasoning.) As all of my merchandise was out on the counter ready to be purchased and he kept looking for some kind of an apology for repeating his comment that I had mumbled under my breath when I went out to get my wallet out of my truck, he kept on wanting to make it an issue for several minutes holding up the line.... I kept asking him if he wanted my business or wanted to keep making it a problem. I guess I just lost it with some foul language that I will forever be ashamed of. Even with PTSD and scenario hanging over me, I don't feel that Kind of action "in a public place" is OK and is mostly terrible for the Other customers in the store so after a brief cooling-offperiod in my truck, I tried to re-approach him in the store to apologize. That didn't go very well. I went home... With an even longer cooling-offperiod, I called him on the phone to apologize where he then hung up on me. Is a good business? Well I know enough about business (because I spent most of my life in business) to know ...that's not how you run a business if you want to do it well and for that reason alone I'm not gonna give "this store" many stars Regardless of how the merchandise may be or how any of the rest of the service or employees may be. I don't believe I will be a DG customer in the future... The way I feel at this point and most certainly will not be stepping foot in that store again.
