We noticed that Salem had a public market and thought that would be a good way to get some local flavor and a good way to let the time pass up until the museum opened. This public market is not outside but instead inside a small building. Despite the size of the building there are a fair amount of local vendors that are in here. Some I really was impressed with. There was a guy that had us sample some of his homemade beef jerky that was very good, a plant vendor that sculpted air type plants into things making very cute dioramas with them. My favorite was a hand crafted soap vendor and I wound up buying several bars of soap from her. The fragrances were great and she made them very pleasing to the eye as well with fancy waves at one end on a bar of soap with hints of what looked like glitter. Very nice. This public market was unexpectedly fun and was a perfect morning stop to make!

(#1) As a result, I've rarely met TJ I didn't like, which includes this location next to Willamette Center. At one point TJ Maxx was in downtown Salem, but now this is the only one left in the city. Like many of the businesses in the same lot, it looks and feels new. However, unlike those businesses, TJ Maxx actually has a steady flow of people going in and out. There's no doubt, it's a popular store. (#2) Parking isn't an issue with so many open spaces and it's an easy place to be. Of the few times I've been, I feel this TJ's was solid inventory wise. I found a good amount of clothing for men's and was able to find a gift or two in the kitchen + home decor areas. I also scored a charger for my rental car and almost bit on some of their limited Oregon Ducks gear. No dice on the shoes (#3) but they do have some sizes in the 14-15 range. Service overall seems okay. They're good about letting folks use the restrooms (which were super clean) and keeping the changing rooms tidy. The cashiers are strangely a little slow and sometimes line form as a result. Given how often I'm in Salem, I'm certain I'll be back again. __________ (#1) Ok, not really. There is more glass items than I have ever seen in any other place. There are fireplaces throughout the store which provides a comfortable shopping experience. This is by far one of the most expansive thrifts stores I have come across. You may also find vintage items sprinkled throughout the store. They were having a massive sale on Christmas items as well.
