I came here for the factory tour, where the wool blankets they spin and finish are done completely…read morein the United States. The tour skips some of the beginning steps (for example, they don't have sheep nor shear the sheep on the factory grounds!) but picks up from where the raw wool is shipped to the factory, dyed, cleaned, and spun into yarn. The yarn is then woven into bolts of fabric, but each square inch has to be inspected by hand and fixed if possible to ensure its quality. Then, the lengths of fabric are cut and finished into blankets. The factory tour took about an hour, and some areas are hot and humid to prevent the wool fibers from breaking, so be prepared for temperature changes. I liked how the tour guide used to be a factory worker herself, and had an intimate knowledge of the workings of the factory. The shop itself sells the blankets and other Pendleton products, and there's even a corner near the bathroom that sells blanket seconds-blankets that didn't pass the inspection process. This may be due to stains, too many broken yarns strands, etc. They're sold at a discount.

When I called her out, she tried to play it off that she didn't see it, but really she didn't think I saw that she didn't even bother to look. I let it slide, chalked it up to someone having a bad day. I came back today, several weeks later, to have a some propane tanks filled for an upcoming camping trip. I usually go to another local place, but theirs was out of service today. Kia strolled over to the propane fill at her own slow leisure, giving off inconvenienced body language. Immediately she began studying all of the propane canisters and not saying a word. After about five minutes of her deep expert analysis, I asked if something was wrong, and she told me all 5 of the tanks I brought in were expired and she wouldn't fill them. Even though she couldn't read the embossed date codes, I had to point them out to her. They were not expired. Every single tank is still within its certification requirement. I told her that wasn't true and all I got in return was that if I brought in an exchange bottle, she can fill those, then she walked away. My tanks were not out of certification, Kia just didn't want to be troubled with standing in the un-air conditioned shaded covered area to fill tanks. She casually strolled her way back inside to stock fish bait and that's why she'll always be a dead-end convenience store clerk. I went to the local professional place that does propane as one of their primary sources of revenue, and he looked each one over and verified my claim they were all within certification. This outlet mall is conveniently located right off I-84 exit 17 (Marine Drive / 257th Avenue) in Troutdale, Oregon. Troutdale is a suburb of Portland. The two cities are about 16 miles apart and both are located in Multnomah County. The outlet mall is about halfway between Portland and where we hiked (Wahkeena Falls). Great location for what we needed. Columbia Gorge Outlets is one of the smaller outlet malls I've visited. The size and look of it is more akin to a typical American suburban shopping center than a sprawling outlet mall. In terms of appearance and amenities, it was pretty standard. Before heading out, a few of us used the restrooms by the mall's offices on the south side of the property. Overall, the property was clean and expectedly peaceful and quiet during our visit on a Friday morning around 10:38am.

It's like window-shopping in Arizona, where it's so hot outside and being inside an AC keeps you cooler. I found they have the styles I LOVE to wear. Being a petite, short, well-traveled woman THIS is my store to be! I spotted shoes I'd buy in Spain. I spotted leather jacket, colors I don't own, size I wouldn't buy, but hey! It fits me perfectly when it's zip. It's got pockets, and zippers. I needed this jacket! The staff answered my questions, she helped me. But can you believe it? It's XL. That's a FIRST! Do I look like an EXTRA LARGE? I must be. But, this jacket is MINE! When I got home, and research more on the brand: It turned out, I just purchased the largest leather maker in Europe, and they sell other brands and it is the largest in the world! Woo hoo! We're heading there in March, and I couldn't afford to buy it at Neiman Marcus, but I could in Arktana. I also found out, they have another jacket, similar to my new jacket in the style of FLORI. But, this style, that I bought, I like it so much better. I am so glad we stopped there! They have these wonderful Eastern European pastries, and I have a serious weakness for their strawberry vatrushka. I'm not exaggerating when I say I think about it at night. It has the same effect on me as a really good scone with clotted cream, I have absolutely no self-control around it. I also love that I can walk in intending to get one thing and somehow leave with a bag full of things I didn't plan on buying. Fresh-baked bread, Obviously. A little dessert, Sure. Some fruit or vegetables, Why not. Snacks, drinks, charcuterie items? Suddenly I'm grocery shopping.whoops. The people are a huge part of why we keep coming back. The owner and everyone who works here are incredibly kind, and there's a genuine warmth to the place that makes it feel like one of those neighborhood spots you want to see stick around. Our favorite part of our little Sunday routine is then going to get coffee next door. If you're not close to Camas, they also have a presence at the Vancouver Farmers Market, so you can still get your fix.

Today that line was really long so I had a checker help me. She made no eye contact she slammed things around. I feel like they should just eliminate the moody checkers and replace them with more self checkout stands. It's pretty disappointing.
