I have shopped at Safeway in Washougal for over 20 years. The checkers used to be friendly and professional. Now when I go in the store I almost always try to use self checkout. Today that line was really long so I had a checker help me. She made no eye contact she slammed things around. I feel like they should just eliminate the moody checkers and replace them with more self checkout stands. It's pretty disappointing. read more

Safeway - Washougal's Pricey, Sluggish Monopoly Welcome to Safeway Washougal, where prices are sky-high, checkout lines move at glacial speed, and customer service is brought to you by the fine folks at the Bureau of Indifference. Prices here are downright outrageous--and why? Because there's no competition within 10 miles. It's a classic case of small-town supermarket monopoly, and Safeway's milking it for all it's worth. The cashiers move like molasses in January, more interested in chatting about Aunt Judy's kidney stones than getting you through the line. And if that wasn't enough, they apparently skipped training on how sales work. They plaster big, flashy "SALE" signs all over the shelves, but never update the system--so the register charges you full price anyway. Every. Single. Time. I've learned the hard way to take photos of the shelf tags just to prove the price is wrong at checkout. That leads to even more delays as the cashier flips through a paper flyer like it's 1992, trying to determine if I'm lying about a $1.29 can of beans. We moved here in 2017, and guess what? Nothing has changed. Even Safeway employees admit the pricing system is broken, but here we are EIGHT YEARS LATER, and they're still overcharging. At this point, it feels intentional--like they're hoping nobody notices while they siphon a few extra bucks off each receipt. Washougal desperately needs another grocery store. A Fred Meyer, WinCo, Trader Joe's, anything. But the total absence of competition makes you wonder: is Safeway playing gatekeeper behind the scenes? At any given moment, you may find expired food on the shelf (management hoping you dont check the date) and also might have to beg the cashier to honor clearly advertised promotions (management again hoping you wont notice). I have experienced both issues several times while shopping here. Be careful, cant trust these crooks! read more

This Safeway is a total mess. The staff are unbelievably slow, unhelpful, unhappy, and unknowledgeable. The produce is pale and grim. Stock is neither organized nor kept up. A really sad place. read more

This is for the pharmacy. Seems to be all good until you meet the pharmacist themselves. Don't recommend-- they are the reason I no longer step foot in that store. Snappy, unprofessional, clearly does not want to be there. Found out the hard way that some of them don't know all of the regulations/guidelines pertaining to filling specific classes of medications. Assistants behind the counter will call out the name of whatever you're filling, which, hey, I get that the product needs to be verified. But announced to half the store? No. Not at all. Anyway, in case you can't tell, I wasn't exactly thrilled with my experience. But seriously, save yourselves some aggravation and take your scripts somewhere else. read more

I realize I'm going to look like the jerk here, but rest assured I spent most of my life working Holidays as a registered nurse. After the stomach flu hit the day prior for our family of five, we were out of toilet paper on Christmas Eve. Most everything closed. Closed tomorrow. Store was open until 7pm bc I called and checked. Drove across town and arrived at the sliding door at 6:52pm to find an employee guarding the door. I showed him the time on my phone thru the glass and said "please, I just need toilet paper." He just shook his head no. I guess I just wonder where the humanity went? I would have been in and out in 3 minutes flat. Of course I want the employees to go home and be with their family, but this felt unnecessarily bad. read more

This is one of the best SafeWay stores in the Pacific Northwest, considering the hi volume of customers & how busy this location is, the store is immaculate & also has a great team of Associates, When you enter the store, you are greeted with beautiful floral arrangements and a well stocked produce department, All of the department managers and store Director, do a very great job of communicating with each other and therefore the store runs like a well oiled machine, I would recommend if you're looking for a fun and friendly grocery store you cannot go wrong with the Washougal Safeway store read more

It appears the Washougal Safeway wants to put its customers in danger with a mass Covid event. I counted 16 shoppers without masks, and not one employee or manager seemed to care even though signs were placed and recorded overhead messages played saying masks were mandatory. I've been considering stopping shopping at this store as well as the Camas location due to not carring about community health, but now I will no longer shop at any Safeway, despite it being the only grocery store in my town. I'm extremely disappointed with the lack of concern. read more

It's such a shame that the Washougal store is so bad. It's dirty throughout, they don't clean their convey belts regularly (often disgusting) and their organic veggies are exceptionally poor. We are a lovely, growing community, so it's sad that something isn't done to improve this store. People I speak with hope that with our growth, shortly we'll have an alternative to this grocery store. I live 3 minutes away and go in only for quick "emergency" purchases. The Safeway stores in Camas and Washougal are okay. Just okay... First off, the employees are the light of this store. They're always friendly and smiling and joking around. I love it. That said, I don't hate coming here... just prefer to go elsewhere. This store is a little better than the one in Camas, because it has self-checkout, which tends to make the lines shorter despite being a little busier than the one in Camas. So, that's a plus. On the other hand, both the Camas and Washougal Safeways just have a terrible track record (for me) buying meat. I've bought ground beef, chicken, and steaks here... what a disappointment. You might be thinking at this point... what can be wrong with such simple meats? Well, they went bad in an untimely fashion -- like the next day they were already gross-smelling. I know I could have brought them back, but that's such a hassle! I'd rather spend 20% more on my meat at New Seasons and know it's going to be local, grass fed, organic or whatever buzz word you can throw at it... but especially FRESH. And... while I'm there, I just do my grocery shopping. It costs a little more, but they have really good quality everything -- and it's pretty nice to buy local stuff and support a local business. read more

This is definitely one of the best Safeway stores that I have been to. The hot case with the Asian food is always very clean. The desserts in the bakery area are wonderful! They also have a butcher block and the employees are very helpful, always willing to cut a large piece of meat into serving sized. Another thing we like there is the produce. It's fine to shop in store, but the pick up option is on the bubble. Before moving, I used Whole Foods which is spot on. I don't recommend that feature here. They use thick plastic bags instead of paper. 1/3 of my order was not included due to out of stock, ie chicken, frozen fruit, mozzarella,etc. I know substitutions were available so I'll have to make another trip tomorrow. Kinda defeats the purpose of saving time. Customer service was good when I called to pick up order. read more

I have witnessed most deli staff members perform multiple tasks with the same gloves then handle deli meat without changing them. Got attitude from a staff member when I requested new gloves be put on after I watched them touch all sorts of things in the kitchen, and they lied stating they just put them on. Imagine how many dirty gloves have plunged into a pile of pre-sliced deli meat. Now any time I dare to look at the deli I dont order anything that can't be picked up with tongs. Unfortunately Safeway management allows low safety standards from the people handling food in front of customers. Sadly probably just to save money on gloves. Bringing this to their attention has had zero impact. read more

Why does Safeway jack their prices so high? Oh that's right, it's the only one in Washougal so they have nothing to compete with. I only come here when I need something quick. If I need to buy a lot, I always spend the little bit of time and gas to go into Vancouver for Winco. There are also a lot of people I went to high school with that work and/or shop here so I try to avoid it if I'm feeling antisocial. Their produce and meat selections can be pretty hit or miss. I guess that is how every grocery store is though. There is a full deli with hit or miss items as well. It basically depends on your timing if you can get a good potato wedge or not. The bakery tends to put out delicious items. The pharmacy never seems to be all that busy. Washougal's first Starbucks is in here. Meh, it's just another Safeway... read more

This is either a newer built Safeway or remodeled, I'm not sure since I've only been here a few times. There is a larger selection here than the Camas Safeway, I like that. Its also much bigger and has multiple departments. Safeway to me are pretty much all the same for the most part. My draw back to this review is that the people who shop here are probably the rudest people I've met at a grocery store. I had my cart pushed down an aisle, yelled at, been hit with another cart and lots of dirty glares. Seriously? Its not like the chicken is going to run off. Probably wont be shopping here much since its out of the way and I'm not down with rude people. read more

I am never a big corporate fan and Safeway as a cooperate turns my stomach but I love my neighborhood Safeway store!!! Its the people who work there and put in their effort that make the store very different! The staff there are great! They are polite and helpful. How many people get a hello from a produce guy whenever you shop?! The manager at the store is wonderful. She never hesitate to help and never fail to provide great customer services. The new "Just 4 U" program is awesome. It helps me save a lot of money on things I buy anyways and all in the leisure of clicking the coupon on my phone! Now, I don't forget to bring the coupon I need or present them at check out. I just add the coupon on from my phone or online and swipe my Safeway card to get all the savings I want. I don't work for safeway and don't know anyone there. I just feel I should write a good review for them to say, "Good job, Safeway Washougal store. A couple years ago I would have rated this store a 5 star. Today I rate it a 1 star. There are very few of the old staff left. Safeway have driven them all out. This is a Neighborhood store in Washougal with mostly repeat customers and the new staff has no customer service skills. You stand in line forever because they took out the self check outs. They overcharge you and when you point it out they act like you are the bad guy for bring it to their attention. I went to one checkers stand one night and they only had 2 checkers. Both had about 20 people in line. I put my food down and then after a few mins the checker said. I'm closing and turned his light off. There were at least 10 people left behind me Even after my stuff had been sitting on the stand. The other checker asked my checker to wait. He said he had to go. Then an off duty checker was on her way out just shook her head and walked back and opened a new stand. She has left now too after that but the other guy is still there. Last week again they over charged me for some items on sale. The sale had been on for a week. I had to go back to the customer service desk were the lady smarted off again. Hmm you have been charging people for over a week and just now it gets caught? Plus you act like I had no right to say anything? Tonight I stopped and bought a 8 piece of chicken. Not the dark 8 piece on sale. When I got home I had 6 drum sticks and 2 backs. I paid the whole chicken 8 piece. Really? I wish a different company would open a new store in Washougal. Safeway would be left empty. Other then a few good old checkers and the great pharmacy crew. It's a bad place to shop! read more

This is probably the worst Safeway I have ever been to. The product selection is ok but it's the customer service that lacks any customer service. Every single time I've been in this store it's a fight to get checked out. It's always a long wait. Not because the stores lacks adequate check out lanes it's because they refuse to open them, I assume because they never have enough checkers on staff to save a buck. I will avoid this store at all cost in the future. If you do go don't be in hurry because it will take you 30 min to buy a gallon of milk. read more

Strongly recommend that you get injections some place else. The pharmacist who used to be there was excellent, but the new one gave me my Prevnar-13 injection. I had extended bleeding, and a gigantic bruise. I am now 3 weeks out, and I still have a huge bruise--purple surrounded by yellow. I think he needs some additional training on giving injections. I've never experienced this before, even though I get allergy shots elsewhere every week, and have gotten injections down the road at Bi-Mart without bruising. read more

The employees rock!! The people here make it not a complete dumpster fire. Now lace up... Safeway has degraded steadily over a 3.5 year period. Shitty meat selection and dept. The selection of stock items vary so much I can literally never shop there for a recipe. One day they have more beef shanks than you can or want to buy. The next day they are out of hamburger. Reliable inventory is important in a place that is growing as quick as Washougal is. Boo for safeway. And boo for Albertsons, who is noe their heavy handed corporate owner. read more

I love the store itself, but that being said the DELI NEEDS SERIOUS HELP! I cant even count the number of times I have walked up with 3 or more people I front of me, and many works behind, just not helping the people in line, wait for a good 20mins and I end up leaving, all while maybe 2 works are helping people slowly, the other works seems to be busy but arent really doing anything. One rime the person said on just one secomd have to grab this chicken in the frier, I saw him in back just doing random stuff, while I waited for about 10mins, before leaving! They need a manger to get on them because they are losing some serious business with whats going on now! read more

Just spent about 20 minuets in the Washougal Safeway waiting to get a pound of potato salad. Even though there were 3 employees on duty and two customers ahead of me, these people took their sweet time doing some tasks that should have taken about 5 minuets. Had to stand there for over 5 minuets before anyone even spoke to me. Then I stood at the cash register in the deli section for another 5 minuets before one of the employees decided to ring me up. These people care less about customer service since this went on between 1:15 and 1:45 on a Thursday afternoon when the store wasn't busy at all. read more
