Who knew strawberries paired so perfectly with salty, cured prosciutto and pistachios? This might not be on the menu all the time, but if you see it, get it! * Complimentary focaccia was unbelievably soft and delicious. As if it couldn't get any better, their olive tapenade served alongside it was equally delicious, making for an unbeatable duo. * The Margherita pizza is the ultimate test of a pizza restaurant--and they passed with flying colors! It's so simple that if something isn't right, it'll be easy to spot, but everything from the homemade mozz to the slightly charred crust and the delicious sauce made this the perfect pie. I give it a score of 3.14159265359...! The Meh: * Meatballs were a touch too tough and could've been a bit more tender. They were still fuçking delicious, so honestly, who cares? The Ugly: * Despite the name, Seaside isn't the most glorious place, and this location is downright sus AF. Conclusion: Maybe one of the best meals so far of 2026. We visited yesterday after a long drive very close to closing. The team was gracious and welcoming and never once rushed us. They provided crayons and coloring pages for the kids and were attentive and friendly throughout. The focaccia with tapenade was delicious and we loved the bolognese and pappardelle was a hit! We were in town and looking for a place for lunch. I spotted Gusto and suggested we go here. Then John found out that they were in the Michelin guide. Then he was totally on board. What an incredible meal! The service was fantastic. And we can't stop thinking about the complimentary focaccia bread. So amazing. We shared a starter of meatballs. The sauce was delicious. Staying in Seaside for a little vacation and ran upon this place. The website has wonderful presentation and when we arrived it's like we stepped into a locals favorite restaurant. The food was divine. I enjoyed the Linguini con Scampi. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the sauce was curated to perfection. My husband enjoyed the pepperoni pizza. We both agreed this is as real as it gets. For dessert (pictured), I enjoyed the tiramisu, and my husband loved the berry cobbler. Our waitress was very kind, thank you Destiny. Thought I would learn from my mistake last time and make a reservation, but I forgot again and ended up waiting about 45 minutes to eat. Looks like this place was awarded Michelin Plate - Michelin recommended but no special awards. Anyway, stuck with my carnivora pizza which is a meat lover paradise. The pizza felt a little undercooked this time though. The center of the pizza was very droopy and toppings struggled to stay on. I powered through anyway. They also couldn't make the peanut butter espresso martini this time around. I tried their tiramisu espresso martini and didn't get any buzz out of it. Don't recall if they had the bread last time but that was a much welcomed appetizer. Anyway, overall still enjoyed my meal. I highly recommend making a reservation for your visit. My four-year-old son and I came here for dinner in early October. I needed a low-key restaurant with a meh that both of us would love, and Yelp suggested Gusto. The service was excellent. We sat at the bar area and my son loved watching the pizzas being made. Our waitress was so polite and accommodating. She made sure my squirrelly four-year-old had crayons, apple juice, bread--the works. He ordered pasta with butter and cheese and he had a time! I ordered the chicken parmigiana and funghi pizza which was way too much for one person. The funghi pizza was my favorite of the two items. The chicken parm wasn't anything to write home about, but I'd return for that pizza! Overall, I think this is a good family-friendly American style Italian restaurant. Amazing food! This has officially become one of my favorite Italian restaurants. We came here on Saturday night with a reservation. If you don't come with a reservation and if they are full, they will not take you in. The hostess was very friendly , and Steven our server was incredible- so knowledgeable about the dishes, went above and beyond and very professional. The restaurant was pretty casual but the food was not "casual" at all. The carbonara was so good. The flavor of guanciale was the main character of this creamy dish with the right amount of cheese. I had an option to add more cheese but glad I didn't. They mixed the egg yoke in front of you which elevated the dining experience. I also really liked the beef pappardelle- it was a very balanced dish with plenty of very tender beef cooked in a wine sauce. We also had the burrata and prosciutto pizza. The pizza dough was airy and textures and thickness was perfect. I like how the prosciutto wasn't overly salty or overpowering and the combination of cheese, meat, tomato and pizza dough was simple and super tasty. I also love that they don't skim on the toppings- each pizza was well topped. The homemade focaccia and the olive dip were bomb.. so good! We recently had dinner at Gusto Italian, and overall it was a mixed experience. The restaurant itself has a warm, inviting atmosphere and the pasta definitely tastes fresh, which we really appreciated. However, the service felt a bit scattered. It seemed like there wasn't one specific server assigned to our table -- a few different people came by throughout the meal, and the main server who closed our check wasn't very attentive. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy, so it felt like there should have been a bit more attention to detail. We ordered the artichoke ravioli and the carbonara. The ravioli was delicious -- rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The carbonara, unfortunately, was way too salty. My husband barely touched it, and even though it was clear the plate was almost untouched, no one asked if something was wrong or offered to make it right, which was disappointing. We finished with the tiramisu, which was quite good and helped end the meal on a positive note. 8.8/10 Pizza was pizza... and it was good! We ordered the Funghi and Margherita pizzas, and overall it was a solid experience. Starting with the Margherita Pizza (8.6/10) a true classic topped with fresh tomatoes, homemade mozzarella, basil, and olive oil. The ingredients tasted fresh and high quality, and you can never really go wrong with a traditional margherita. That said, it was slightly lacking in bold flavor. I ended up adding some red pepper flakes to give it that extra kick, which helped elevate it. Still enjoyable, just needed a little more punch to really stand out. Now onto the Funghi Pizza (9/10) the star of the meal. This one really impressed me. It featured house-made mozzarella, gruyère cheese, wild mushrooms, parmesan cream sauce, and green onion. The variety of mushrooms gave it a deep, earthy flavor, and the parmesan cream sauce tied everything together perfectly. It delivered that rich umami flavor in every bite and felt much more unique compared to the margherita. Definitely the one I'd recommend if you're deciding between the two. Both pizzas did struggle a bit structurally slices would fall apart when picked up. I personally prefer a crispier crust, and while the base wasn't as crispy as I'd like, the puffy, golden corners were the highlight. Those outer crust bites were easily the best part. Service was friendly and very attentive throughout our visit. Staff checked in consistently without being overbearing. The ambiance was nice and clean, though the seating layout felt a little odd. Don't forget to reserve or join the waitlist ahead of time! I had to wait about 40 min before I could be seated. My go to dish here is the carbonara! Super full of flavor, and they'll mix a fresh yolk into the pasta right in front of you. And you can totally tell the pasta is handcrafted like their name says. After a long day of exploring Monterey and Carmel, we stopped here for dinner on our way back to the bay. We made reservations earlier in the day and good thing we did because they got really busy around 6ish as it was a 3 day weekend for many. We ordered the Gnocchi, Chicken Parmigiana, and Short Rib Ravioli. It did take a while for our food to come out. Our waiter was friendly but super busy. We got our complimentary bread probably 20 minutes after and then our appetizer came another 15 minutes later. Our main entrees took about 45 minutes so it would have been nice if the bread and appetizer came out sooner. Everything was good and the ingredients seemed very fresh, with the short rib ravioli being my favorite. While the chicken parmigiana had good flavor and crust, the chicken itself was pounded so thin that some parts got a bit chewy and overcooked. What a fantastic restaurant. I'd read a bunch of reviews and decided to check it out on my trip to Seaside. It had an upscale diner vibe with a fun bar. The service was top rate and the bartender knew his way around the menu and wine list. Kudos to him! I started with a Caesar salad and glass of rose. The dressing on the salad was delicious and homemade as were the croutons. The real stand out dish was the shrimp scampi. It blew my socks off. I asked for extra Garlic and the kitchen delivered, the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the dish featured lots of cheese, chewy tomatoes and chili's that were spicy.i have had a lot of shrimp scampi dishes in California and throughout New England and this dish blew all of the others away! Bread cane with the meal with a tasty dipping sauce. The couple sitting next to me both orders desserts that looked to die for. If only I'd had room. I will surely call this place a hidden gem for travelers driving to Carmel by the sea. We were starving, and thanks to Yelp, we found this place. Came in because of the Michelin plaque by the door. Left $108 lighter trying to figure out what that plaque is actually for. (For the record, the plaque is a Michelin Guide listing, not a star. That's the entry tier, and the pizza didn't come close to earning even that.) Service was fine. Not warm, not rude. Just there. The food is where it falls apart. The Carnivora ($29) had a meatball with zero flavor. Not under seasoned, not bland, actively flavorless, like someone forgot it was food. For $29 the meat should at least taste like meat. The Nutella pizza ($12) is dough with Nutella on it. That's the entire thing. You can recreate it at home with toast and a jar from the store. Want berries on it? That's an extra $5. Five dollars for a handful of berries on something that's barely a dessert to begin with. Then the water. The options I got were "still, sparkling, or regular," and the server said "regular" so quietly I almost missed it. The bottle of still water was $7. Read that how you want. $99 before tax for two pizzas, an appetizer, and bottled water that should've been free. I don't see how this earns Michelin recognition. read more

I visited Monterey to watch my son's college baseball game and found this gem of a place. The dining room was packed and it was about a 30-40 minute wait for 8. The place was cozy and on the smaller side. There was a plaque that said Michelin 2025 and I believe it. The pasta was as fresh as can be and the pizza dough was spectacular. Drove up from SoCal to stay in seaside for the weekend and this place was right next to our hotel... WHAT A HIDDEN GEM! My boyfriend and I weren't expecting much since we had arrived an hour and a half before closing. Free bread 10/10: my boyfriend and I enjoyed the free bread so much I had to include it. Nice crunch on the outside and soft on the inside, but the real star was the dipping sauce that came with it. I wish I had asked what jt was but it was sooo good that I wish it came bottled so I could take home. Calamari 10/10: the squid meat was perfectly tender, it had a nice chewy texture. Not the overcooked type of chew, it had a great bite to it. The batter was seasoned and light, complimenting the squid rather than overpowering it. The marinara sauce was so delicious as well, paired way better than any cocktail sauce that calamari usually comes with. Lasagna 10/10: probably the best lasagna I have ever had in my life. Gusto was a fantastic surprise. I have to admit, I was a bit spectacle when we arrived. The building looks like it used to be a fast-food chain of some sort, perhaps with a drive-thru. Whatever it used to be, the Gusto owners did a great job of converting the space. Due to the structure, there is no real dining area. Small tables are set up up and down the corridors, surrounding the kitchen area. It's a funky little establishment that serves up some delicious Italian food! I believe their pasta is handmade, which is such a delightful rarity... especially for the very reasonable price point. Our server was also an absolute gem. Olives were pan warmed with garlic bread points and calamari was nicely done, lightly battered and not greasy. Focaccia was on the house with a nice dip of oil vinegar and garlic. I had an amaretto and she had house chianti. The ponte vecchio chianti was a better choice. Ceasar salad with house made dressing, a tad thin for me. I like it with salt and anchovies. Made a reservation for 6 on a Saturday evening. My friends and I ordered some beverages which took a while to come. Also, when my whole table got their plates, we were served focaccia bread and a dip. That would have been nice to have before our food came. We went through our water pretty fast and had to ask two different staff members to get some water. I had asked our server if it was busy and he said it wasn't so I don't know what happened there. I ordered the Margherita pizza for my entree. It was just ok. I then ordered the Tiramisu for dessert and an espresso. The drink took a while again. One of the girls that worked there was a little rude when we asked for boxes and only returned with one. Maybe it was just an off night. Fantastic Italian restaurant that serves as one of the many beating hearts of Seaside! My wife and I have been coming here for a few years and recently moved even closer, so this is now our go to Italian spot. Consistently great food, service and ambiance at a reasonable price and convenient location. Food/Drink: While Gusto excels at everything, their food is the highlight of the experience. They start you off with a complimentary order of bread for the table which is amazing (see picture) and they're not shy about getting you more if you eat it as quickly as I usually do. I know it may seem silly to praise a restaurant for providing complimentary bread but I feel like this has become less common in recent years. I've had their pizza, pasta and sandwiches, with every dish being beautifully crafted in not only taste but also texture! The photos I've attached are of their lunch special sandwiches which were amazing and incredibly priced. Best of all they came with Beer Battered Fries! The wine selection is fairly limited but there is a good representation of varietals and something for everyone. There was a separate page of Italian wines but I'm not much for old world wines and therefore have not ordered from that page. Service: Consistently great! I find myself repeating this in reviews but service needs to be a fine touch. Too little and the experience is obviously bad, but too much and it can be equally as bad. Gusto's staff strikes a nice balance of being there when you need them, but not lingering over your shoulder. Ambiance: Light and approachable. While some Italian restaurants adopt the darker, cozy romantic vibe, Gusto elects for a much more bright and airy feel. I reserve the integrity of my 5 star reviews and let me just say Gusto got a 5 from me. I love the fact that I'm beyond was very open and inviting and not pretentious at all. It was very family friendly, especially since I have a 10 month old with me and my husband a very good old Italian restaurant to eat any day of the week food was super fresh and flavorful. We actually came here because they got a mention on the Michelin guide And I can see why we got the short rib ravioli and that was phenomenal. We got calamari as an appetizer and it was crispy with a huge portion. They have a craft cocktail list - the cocktails were just OK but they had a good wine selection. However, their pizza is not bad so do come for that. I blame Michelin for misguiding me : ( Calamari - 3/10 The squid ring section of the calamari was EXTREMELY CHEWY. I was chewing on the piece for over 20 seconds. Overcooked RUBBERY TRASH. I asked the server and he gave me a small plate of a new batch. Still chewy but a bit better - I'm sure it's frozen and tossed in the fryer. The tentacles weren't bad. Note - I'm comparing this to the calamari from Scott's seafood so the bar is set very high. Big portions but I could do without. Wish I didn't order and I wasted food (something I rarely do) Margherita Pizza - 7.5/10 Very solid standard pizza but lacking in flavor. Crust is not as thin as one would expect. It does past the "bend" test. But the dough is too thick and not crispy like a standard marg. The sauce on the pizza was lacking flavor but the basil and cheese carried. If you're not a huge foodie you would think this was great. I personally Wouldn't come back for the pizza tho.
