Went to the Rockfish Harbour Grill for lunch with my wife. Overall, it was excellent. Had a perfectly wonderful view of the harbor, even saw seals and otters swimming about. I had clam chowder, which was one of the best I've had in a long time as well as rockfish tacos. both excellent.! My wife had broiled rockfish plate that included a nice portion of fish ,vegetables and mashed potatoes. All cooked to perfection. Service-our waiter deserves a shout out as he was very attentive and excellent as well. Bottom line, I would highly recommend this restaurant. read more

A very quiet February night on the old pier in Monterey, we took an Uber over from the Seven Gables, about $20. The pier was empty, a couple here and there certainly not like the day in mid summer. Weather was and has been spectacular and the stars were showing off tonight! We walked to the end of the pier, I've been here several times over the years. As we were seated there were only four tables with dinner guests, that's how slow it was. We knew M was going to "sample" the chowder and she did. A new rule was instated a while back...no fish n' chips unless there are fried shrimp too. wouldn't you know the Fisherman's Platter had it all, calamari too. So we got our cup of chowder and we shared the platter. The chowder was too perfect and I'd question whether this was made on the premises or just stirred up in the back. The Platter well...Let's say it was a decent meal for one but we made it work for us. Slightly over cooked didn't help justify the price they were charging. From the iced tea not being refilled to reminding the server with "some ranch dressing please", I got the feeling that the chef and manager overseeing the operation tonight wasn't happening. Haven't been to the wharf in a few years and when we did we always had a good dining experience, albeit a bit pricey. On this trip we decided to try Rockfish. This was our first time. It was just about noon but the the restaurant was nearly empty, except for one table of four. We seated at a nice table with a view of the bay and harbor. Lots of boats and seals to watch. The waiter came by in short order and took our drink and food order. I ordered the sourdough crab sandwich and my wife had the fish tacos. Two things. One, the entire restaurant empty they chose to seat a large noisy party right next to us. Two, they chose to clean the windows during service? I actually had to move out of the way while eating while the guy wiped the windows during service next to me. Now the food. We both started with the clam chowder which was very good but they don't give any sourdough, you have pay for it? We opted for crackers instead. My sandwich was grilled nicely but the crab did not taste fresh to my mind. It tasted more like canned crab. I love Dungeness crab and grew up in the Bay Area where it was readily available. I asked the waiter and he assured me it was made fresh daily from fresh crab. My wife's tacos were portioned generously and she said the fish tasted good but they over did the aioli sauce. Pretty good! It's hard to know where to go on the boardwalk because there are so many restaurants that seemingly look the same and feature similar menus. I had the rockfish tacos that were really good. Firecracker shrimp was also delicious and side of fries was very hardy and could feed the table. Views were great! My meal was delicious. I ordered the stuffed salmon with crab meat, mozzarella, spinach and mashed potatoes and veggies. Had bread pudding for dessert (yummy). My husband had the spicy fried chicken sandwich that was cooked to perfection. Everything was so good. The service was constant. Meaning it was good to have someone checking on you but like 2-3 people almost every 5 minutes like they were rushing you became a little irritating but after you let them know I'm good, just give me a few minutes then they leave you alone for awhile. That way you can have a full conversation without being interrupted. Ambiance was nice. We had a few sea lions swimming near us. Despite the three dollar signs denoting price range, it really wasn't that expensive, especially for the area. Now, the tree dollar sign rating for The Sardine Factory is characteristic of a pricey menu. I would give this place two dollar signs, and my husband and I are quite frugal. The food was really good. The aioli was delicious and the rest of the choke was good. The calamari was by far my favorite, perfectly seasoned and fried pieces. My husband got the oyster on half shelf he liked them but have had better. We ate fairly early on a weekday for dinner and were seated immediately with a nice view of the harbor. The waitstaff were all friendly, efficient, and attentive. The food was EXCELLENT and reasonably priced. I was most excited to try the crab and artichoke gratin, and I was delighted with it. It was a decently-sized portion and delicious. We decided to go with lighter entrees - my partner ordered the grilled crab sourdough sandwich and I had the blackened rockfish sandwich. Both were flavorful, perfectly cooked, and just wonderful. This was my first time visiting. I enjoyed my dinner here during the week with my wife and son. Upon entering we had to leave our stroller at the door, which was fine, they offered us a high chair. We got to enjoy our dinner with a table on the window over looking the water. We started with the basket of garlic cheese bread. It was good, but honestly nothing special. I did have parts of bread where my cheese wasn't even melted, but not a deal breaker. I enjoyed the fisherman platter, everything was cooked perfectly. My wife enjoyed her pasta. We both ordered strawberry lemonades, which were just pink lemonade with strawberries in syrup added. We were asked if we would like them refilled, which we agreed. It wasn't until the bill came that I realized that they charged us for refills. Most restaurants have free refills, especially when the bill was over 100 dollars. Bummer. We went for Valentines Day 2025 - no reservation and was surprised that we could get a table. I was annoyed that it was basically $18 for two of the tiniest crab cakes you have ever seen. Did they taste great? Yes but so small. The calamari was good - I appreciated the lack of rings. Clam chowder was the worst one on the Wharf, according to my boyfriend. I didn't really care for the drinks (pricey for a lot of ice though it's perhaps typical for cocktails) - I did love the sand dabs dish though, fish was fresh, good amount, vegetables were tender, rice was great. My husband and I were visiting early February on a Friday afternoon and wanted lunch. The restaurant wasn't too busy and the staff was smiling and helpful. The restaurant was nicely decorated and there were plenty of ocean view tables. We were greeted promptly by our very professional waiter, drinks received and our order taken. I had the rockfish tacos and my husband had the fisherman's platter. Honestly, some of the very tastiest fish tacos I have ever had! So fresh and hot (I ordered grilled, not fried) with delicious pico and I think the flour tortillas may have even been handmade. My husband's lunch looked great as well. This place was a complete disappointment. We went as a family of 3. It took 15 minutes to get our lemon water. Mind you it was not busy at ALL. Our surf and turf was horrible. The only good part of the meal was the filet migon. The lobster was overcooked and dry. They were super racist which is crazy because majority of the servers were Hispanic. My family of 3 and a white couple arrived at the same time and they gave more attention to them than us. We met some people that were dining there as well while we were there and they warned us, "dont eat the food here, its not good and the service is terrible". We should've listened. Our surf and turfs said "Market Price" but were $85. When other restaurants had them at $65. We paid $187 for 2 surf and turfs and 2 fountains drinks. Which we didn't even FINISH. Horrible place. Rockfish Harbor Grill is a restaurant located at the end of fisherman's wharf in Monterey. The view overlooks the harbor. The service was fast and my server was friendly. I wanted a salad for lunch, so I ordered the Shrimp Louie Salad. The price was steep ($29.95), but I was in the mood for a seafood salad since I was in Monterey. The overall quality of the salad was good. The amount of bay shrimp you get was not worth the $37.72 (including tax & tip). As you can see from my pic of the salad, it's not a huge salad. The bay shrimp is definitely frozen. I've had frozen bay shrimp that wasn't as soft as the bay shrimp in this salad. The amount of 1000 island dressing was small too. The iceberg lettuce wash fresh and crisp. I loved the candied bacon! Overall, the view was nice, and the shrimp louie salad was good. I didn't order anything else, so I can't say if the portions and quality of other food selections are good or bad. In my opinion, this shrimp louie salad is not worth the price listed. Note: the price of Shrimp Louie Salad is probably reflected by the location of restaurants on Fisherman's Wharf. It appears that when observing prices at other restaurants on the wharf, the prices are in the $30 range for shrimp louie salad. I would recommend ordering something else that is reflective of that price range. (ie: rockcod and chips for under $30). read more

The food was great and our server was amazing and very attentive. I went with a group for dinner after a conference. I wanted to order dessert however there wasn't enough time so I visited the next day to try the bread pudding. When I came in the next day, I talked to the hostess and asked to place an order for dessert to go. She explained they couldn't do that and suggested to visit their sister restaurant for my request. During that conversation I was on a video call with another person. I had no problem with going to the sister restaurant for the dessert . I'm not sure what the confusion was, however the person (I'm guessing the manager) who I talked to at the sister restaurant said that I need to go back to the other place for the dessert. He wasn't sure why they told to go there instead. He walked back with me to the other restaurant and told the hostess my request and talked to kitchen staff as well. I was told it would be out in 5 minutes, great! But I felt horrible since I overheard a conversation the hostess had with the other staff members. It seems that they were told that they weren't supposed to be able to do to go orders but that now they were? I worked if this industry before so I understood the frustration of being told one thing and the next day another. I apologized to the hostess and told her I didn't mean to cause her a bad moment. She then proceeded to show a snarky face and replied in a rude tone, "You had told me you wanted to order take out, not dessert". At this point, I'm still on call with the other person and when I told them what the hostess replied, he confirmed that I had indeed asked for dessert specifically, I that I mentioned it, TWICE As someone who worked previously as a server and hostess, that comment was completely inappropriate especially the way she said it. I've never been someone to complain as I never really had something like this happen to me before. However, her behavior and comment kinda ruined my mood for about an hour. I understand customers can be wrong sometimes but it seems she also need to learn a bit more about customer service. I didn't want to make a deal about it especially since it seems other people were coming in so I reserved myself and left after I received my order. She was very sweet and answered all of our questions about the menu and specials. After spending some time in Monterey with so many seafood options, it really comes down to who is elevating your time spent. Maria is a gem!
