I would like to share my feedback about Domestic Kitchens, a company we used based on a recommendation from our interior designer for our extensive renovation project, which included the remodeling of our large kitchen, butler's kitchen, five bathrooms, and installation of built-in cabinets in four bedrooms. It has been a year since the project was finished, and I must admit that selecting Domestic Kitchens was one of the biggest mistakes we made during the renovation process.
Initially, we were attracted to the idea of working with a family-owned company that manufactures everything in the USA. Unfortunately, our experience with Domestic Kitchens was marred by several issues. Firstly, the timing of the project was significantly delayed, causing inconvenience and disruption to our plans. Moreover, the cabinets were not measured correctly, resulting in a mere one-foot gap between the edge of the kitchen island and the refrigerator. This forced us to completely redesign the electrical and plumbing systems and relocate the refrigerator to an area initially intended for a seating arrangement, which we had to abandon. Additionally, the measurements for the cabinets in the Master bedroom were inaccurate, leading to a last-minute design alteration that looks out of place and detracts from the overall bathroom style.
Furthermore, the colors we selected for the built-in cabinets in the bedrooms were improperly executed, with only one out of the five bedrooms receiving the correct color. The installation process was also inefficient, as only two installers were sent, resulting in significant delays that affected other contractors and specialists involved in the project.
However, the most disheartening aspect of our experience was the damaged cabinets and finishes that occurred during installation. When we requested repairs, it took four months for Frank, the representative from Domestic Kitchens, to send someone to address the issues. Unfortunately, after just two days, the workers never returned to complete the repairs. We tried to withhold full payment until the finishes were rectified, as Frank assured us that his team would continue working until we were satisfied. However, as soon as we paid them in full, they abruptly stopped coming, leaving us with unfinished cabinets. Since February (a period of over four months), we have been waiting for resolution, and Frank has ceased responding to our emails. As a result, we are left with unsightly areas where the paint is chipping off the cabinets, making them look worn and outdated.
This situation is extremely distressing, as we have previously undergone renovations in both houses and apartments where the cabinets remained in pristine condition even with daily use. It appears that the quality of the product offered by Domestic Kitchens falls far short of our expectations.
To add to our disappointment, one of the cabinets for the sixth bathroom was so damaged that we had to purchase a pre-made vanity as a replacement.
Overall, our experience with Domestic Kitchens was highly unsatisfactory, and I feel compelled to caution anyone considering working with this company to think twice before proceeding. Despite investing nearly $200,000 in their services, we still have significant areas that look subpar, and the lack of response from Frank has only intensified our frustration.
