I'm giving them 3* because of the speed. Now for the service, it was great at face value. However when me and my cousin (she went twice in 48 hours because her hair frizzed back up overnight) returned to Virginia and washed our hair exactly 14 days later we realized they chemically altered our hair. Idk what motivated them to put KERITIN in our heads BUT it completed ruined our natural hair. My hair is fine, so it honestly only takes a blow dryer to straighten it. It is very curly because duhhhhh we have west African roots but the chemical was never needed when the heat was already going to be applied - in my case the woman doing my hair blow dried it straight and thought she was done until I asked for a flat iron: that's how FINE my hair is. My hair has been super straight for the last 2 months because I accepted the deep conditioner and was not aware it had keratin in it. My curls are slowly coming back but its really annoying that I can't wash and go anymore because of the chemical application. I honestly am kind of sad. I would go back but I would decline the deep conditioner 100% The woman who did my hair was not cuban so maybe she doesn't know much about our hair but she was Dominican and I think she did a GREAT job on my hair otherwise (outside of the keratin). read more

No stars. I am horrified. I brought my 7 year old daughter for her first straightening and the owner and another woman mutilated my poor daughter's hair! I specifically asked for no chemicals and told them that it need not be super straight. As I am realizing the full extent of the damage on my daughter's hair, it's horrific!!!!!!!!!! Her hair is falling out in clumps in the shower, her natural curls are burnt into ugly straight clumps, and parts of her hair were burnt off entirely. I am so sad and mad that people could do this intentionally to a child! Tragic. read more

I visited this location recently and was met with a fair skinned lady trying to upswell me a perm for$90.00. The hair stylist don't even know how to style hair. She put it up in a whorish ponytail. My scalp has scars from her putting two bottles of perm in it. She didn't even thank me for the tip. Don't visit this shop black women. They don't care about black hair, just black dollars. I will start by saying they do hair well. My review is based on the treatment I received. Knowing that this is the week of thanksgiving, I figured the salon would be full. I signed in , I was number 8. I waited 2 hours to get my hair washed. After my wash and conditioning, I finally was ready for my roller set. I waited in Christina's chair. There was a client in Judy's chair ( which I was at the salon before her ). Christina tells me she has to do another clients hair because they were first. Ok no problem. The problem is Judy ( the owner ) was so adamant about the other client being first , so I had to wait. So the client in Judy's chair should of got up because I was before her. I then asked Judy how much my hair was for how it is now , she charged me $30 for a wash and condition. No problem, I paid, then left with my wet hair. I will say the man in the salon did give me a plastic cap. So they get 1 star because 1. If you're going in order , then you blatantly skipped me. 2. My time and money is just as valuable as the other clients in the salon. I guess because the client in her ( Judy's ) chair is a regular , her money is better. Not a problem. Came here after going to another salon & grew tired of skipping over me for 45 minutes. All I wanted was a wash, blow dry, & trim on my coarse natural hair. They were pretty rough with my hair. They weren't crazy with the heat as at other Dominican salons, but I still got heat damage in the back of my head. I appreciate that they didn't turn me away & did my hair, but the lady that was blowing my hair out didn't speak English very well & was having a hard time. It didn't come out as straight as I thought it would be. Would I come back? That's up in the air for now. I don't straighten my hair very often & they don't do natural hair styles. read more

Well...... I don't normally write reviews. But felt the need to write this one. I have gone in one time prior to get a color and a haircut. I asked her to cut all my ends my dead ends because they were dry and frizzy . Mind you my hair was in the middle of my back a little bit passed my bra line. So by the time I was done my hair was up to my shoulders . I was like OK you know maybe my hair was that bad that I needed to be cut short and didn't really press the issue. So I went in again weeks later because I needed another hair color.So as I'm explaining to her that as a summer is coming near I want my hair to get lighter and didn't want to put just jet black in my hair like I have been doing. So I got my hair colored and roller set. Now I've gotten my hair colored many many times at various salons. This is not my first time getting my hair colored at a salon. So I get home I stop playing with my hair looking at it I'm looking at my roots I normally get more grays than usual how in the hell is that spot I still have grays my grays still show. I don't think the stylists here are really good with natural hair. I came here just to get my ends trimmed, my hair is natural and I want it to stay that way, however I got asked 100 times if I wanted a relaxer, to the point where I was paranoid that they where gonna secretly sneak one on me while I wasn't looking. The overall attitude in there sucked, and the stylists I interacted with weren't very pleasant. The lady cutting my hair asked me how much I wanted cut off and I said, whatever she thought best because I havent gotten it trimmed in a while and she said "Yeah because it looks really bad!". ummmmm okay lady. I've been coming here for years. I used to live in the neighborhood but I recently moved to Bed-Stuy. I still come back. They have the best leave in conditions and deep conditioners. They did my color with highlights last year and I've gotten so many compliments. My hair has grown a lot so I had my hair recolored for the ombré look. I love it here. Everyone is so friendly. Mambo hair Salon has to be the absolute most expensive Dominican Salon, The owner "JULIE" gets you in the chair and Upsales you to the extreme, If you dont need a perm they will try to sale you one, if you dont want a conditioner they will try there best to sale you one. Ive been to other salons who do a better job and charge way less. My 17 year daughter recently went there and shes a very good respectable young lady And is a quiet, sweet young girl, well they took advantage of that!! I went to Dominican Mambo for the 1st time, my hair was broken and damaged and thought I would need to go to the salon at least for a month before seeing results. I was wrong... The very first day, Julie saw my hair and gave me a few recommendations that were amazing. This is my 3rd visit and sitting underneath the dryer as I type this review because I'm extremely happy with the service. The staff are so professional, happy and always in good spirit. They care about what they do and are highly experienced. They really know their products and what works for each person. I have been to several salons that use the same product for everyone, not at Dominican Mambo. I previously went to another Dominican salon just around the block but one day they closed early and I had to go to Dominican Mambo. I never knew what I was missing! These people are amazing! I watch them style some hair that looks very difficult to manage and I can't believe they use a blow dryer and their hands to create such magic! I have fairly easy hair to manage but my hair has NEVER looked so healthy until I started going to Dominican Mambo! They use very good products that are healthy and smells awesome! They also cost far less than the other salons I have been to. Also, everyone there works together. The employers and employee behave like family and in turn makes me feel like family! I get wonderful shampoo with relaxing head massage during the process, great cuts and fabulous hair styling! I now live over an hour away and you bet I still go there to get my hair done!
