Stopped by here based on the chicken and ribs special that was advertised outside. Came in and was puzzled that the grilled ribs advertised was not available and only the sauced up ribs was what was available. They plated up 3 1/2 ribs and a 1/4 chicken with yellow rice and made to order French fries. The food was anything but what was advertised. The ribs were sauced up but dry AF. It was drenched in sweet and sour sauce but almost made me choke because it was way too overcooked. The chicken was worse than the ribs. I have no words to describe how disappointing this meal was except for the fries. The yellow rice had absolutely no flavor. I would hate to try the #1 dish, which is the pernil. It would only break my heart if that disappointed me. If you think I'm lying, I'm not. You would think a Portuguese BBQ was dry and more bland than Dominican food, you'd be wrong. It was a little overwheleming, but also good for trying a variety of different dishes. Empandas were pretty good both times. I would avoid the chicken. Not sure if it was old or oddly seasoned, but I would not suggest it. Very disappointing experience. My partner called in an order ahead of time, but when I arrived, staff said there was no order and gave inconsistent answers. Welcome to the neighborhood, Dominican Power! I walked by today & saw that they were open, so I decided to order dinner from them this evening. They're by Magic Fountain, in the spot that used to be Blimpie's. When you walk in they have the rows of steam trays behind plexiglass and they serve you. If you call ahead you can pick up or get delivery. We live nearby so we picked up. I ordered pork ribs with rice & frijoles rojas, my daughter ordered chicken cordon bleu with tostones, and my friend ordered the pork chops (also with rice & beans). Everything was fantastic and the portions were so large that we have enough left over for another night. We also ordered a side of maduros but barely made a dent in them because we ate so much of everything else. The menu is very full and as soon as I can get to a scanner I'll add it in. It doesn't seem like they have a website or a Facebook page but I'm hoping they'll add one. Service was friendly and the place appeared to be busy when we got there. A couple of days ago I was tending to some business in Jersey City and remembered seeing a video on IG regarding this restaurant "Dominican Power" cause I guess hunger stuck me and wanted something different. Parking is difficult in Bayonne, NJ., but was able to find one a block away. The restaurant is lively with music playing in the background, plenty of people in the establishment. I placed three orders of Mofongo de Chicharron, a large of Pernil, large Yuca with onions on top, large white rice, large red beans and three pieces of Dulce de leche cake for dessert. I have to say before I critique the food, service was excellent. The lady was pleasant and polite. Now, the food. My family and I were pretty disappointed. The Mofongo was bland and the pork was undercooked which made us go to the bathroom. I could not be more disappointed with my order. I ordered a chicken sandwich and they literally slapped chicken in between 2 breads. No lettuce, tomatoes, cheese. No condiments on the sandwich or on the side. Luckily I had these items at home and was able to make it decent for my husband to eat. We stumbled into this new restaurant and decided to give it a try. First impression when we walked in, the place is very clean and open. The food options are large and inviting. The servers are very polite and patience. The food. We got oxtail, which comes with a large plate of rice and bean ( u can also pick salad or plantain etc). We also ordered two empanadas, a small order of tripe soup and a side of sweet plantains. Food is fresh, flavorful and generous portion. We ended the meal with a strong cup of DR coffee. This has been one of our go to places for years. I had company this weekend and decided we would order from there because we always enjoy the food. Have not had a complaint in years however tonight was like I went to a different place. First of all along with dinner comes a side of rice and beans. There has always been a generous amount of beans but this time I was lucky if I could count 10 beans for each of us. The yellow rice that is supposed to have vegetables in it or pigeon peas was extremely dry and had not even a handful of vegetables in it. Forget about the pigeon peas there was none in. The barbecue ribs that we ordered were dry and tasteless not like they used to be and certainly few in number. The Pernil was good and so was the chicken but the quantity of Maduros was half of what it used to be. The quantity and quality of food was certainly less than it has been and I understand given the times we are living in prices have risen for restaurants. That is a problem everywhere but beans are the cheapest thing you can get and that's where you're going to go cheap. My bill came to over $100 for all the people that fed I don't feel that the meal was even worth $20. Sadly, sadly disappointed and embarrassed because I was raving about how good it was.
