Okay, so it was my bf's and my first time visiting El Sol de Caribe tonight and we WENT TO TOWN. We got stewed chicken, BBQ chicken, roast pork over red beans and rice, and also a house made flan, okra stew, and sweet plantains on the side. The total came around $30, a very fair price considering generous portion and absolutely delicious food all lovingly made on site. Also there happened to be a birthday party when we went (I think she was a family member of the owner) and one of the family members offered us to take home a slice of cake! It was such a sweet surprise and my bf and I were both charmed by their kind gesture. We very much felt welcomed, as if we were their own family, even though it was clear that we were not from the neighborhood. I got the yellow rice which was sooo good, (i think it was seasoned with saffron if I could guess correctly sooo good), okras mixed in tomato sauce with gravy in the rice and roast pork and food was a1 reminds me of how my grandfather used to cook. If you find local police or Sherrie department officers in any restaurants that means it's delicious and affordable. I saw both here in my visit, cheers boys in blue. My roasted chicken over black beans and rice was delicious, I asked for stewed chicken broth to go over the rice (which I asked for a very small portion of), and several slices of avocado on top, there was a small upcharge of $1 and they were very friendly and accommodating. I LOVE THIS PLACE! I've been going here for YEARS. Since elementary school so that's over 15 years. They never disappoint. The food is ALWAYS flavorful, fresh and oh so delicious! My favorite? Their empanadas! They offer both chicken and beef, but on rare occasion, I'm able to grab a cheese...my absolute fav! I will advise that parking is a bit of a challenge but that doesn't stop me. The prices are fair but the portions are even fairer. I've had the yellow rice, white rice, stew chicken, ziti, macaroni salad, tres leche and many more, all of which has have been amazing. I absolutely love coming here. This is perfect for a quick, no wait lunch but there isn't a large eating area so it's best for sit, eat, and go or take out. I wouldn't come here with a large group of people because again its a small place. The food though is always fresh and tastes great. They have a good variety of food that is already made that you can choose from along.I personally love the beef stew. It's awesome. There were plenty of seats for everyone. I ordered the pork ribs and okra over rice and beans. The pork was falling off the bone. And okra was well cooked and lightly seasoned. Rice and beans were cooked perfectly. My husband got the pork and chicken with mashed yucca over rice and beans. The pork was very tender. The chicken was falling off the bones as well. Just about every time I go home to visit my parents, I make a quick stop here. Whether it is for a lunch, dinner or just something to go for my next few days, it is a mandatory stop. Stumbled up on this joint and was addicted ever since. Where can you find a $3 box of yellow rice (or brown) and some stew chicken (or whatever other dish you want). This is sooo my go to, but I have had the BBQ chicken as well. This thing is so filling, I would split it into two smaller meals, but now I am able to consume the whole thing in one sitting. Upgrade to a larger size for just a fraction of the price and get more sides. A meal of $10 can definitely feed two. Their specials are on different days of the week, ox tail is one that I crave all the time, but always seem to miss out. Service is so good here. Ive known the owner since the place opened and if shes not there, the employees treat non-hispanic customers pretty badly. The server acted like i was inconveniencing her when i ordered more than one dish, tying the bag closed before i can even finished my order. Then she would suck her teeth because i wasnt done ordering and had to untie the bag. At first, i thought i was crazy, but i tested this theory when i brought my latino fiancee with me. They treated him so nicely and filled our to-go containers to the brim and even asked him if there was anything else he wanted. When i went in by myself i was being rushed and my to-go order looked like it was only half way filled. I have not yet recommended this place to anyone.
