Stewed chicken, BBQ chicken, roast pork, red beans and rice, sweet plantains, flan, and okra stew.

Okay, so it was my bf's and my first time visiting El Sol de Caribe tonight and we WENT TO TOWN. We got stewed chicken, BBQ chicken, roast pork over red beans and rice, and also a house made flan, okra stew, and sweet plantains on the side. The total came around $30, a very fair price considering generous portion and absolutely delicious food all lovingly made on site. Also there happened to be a birthday party when we went (I think she was a family member of the owner) and one of the family members offered us to take home a slice of cake! It was such a sweet surprise and my bf and I were both charmed by their kind gesture. We very much felt welcomed, as if we were their own family, even though it was clear that we were not from the neighborhood. We are so glad we drove 15 min to try out this place and certainly will be back for more delicious Dominican home cooked food!

Ordered via Uber eats on a Sunday morning. Mangu tres golpes. To my surprise when it arrived it did not have any salami. How convenient for them. They did not add the most expensive item on the dish, which happened to be the reason why i ordered it in the first place THE SALAMI! ...first time ordering, not a good experience. Although the mangu was good, probably won't be ordering again.

Roasted chicken over black bed and and rice, delicious.

Solid good Dominican food, hearty, delicious and healthy options for diabetics as well; delicious roasted Chicken, pork, octopus salad, yucca, several varieties of rice and beans, even Ceviche. If you find local police or Sherrie department officers in any restaurants that means it's delicious and affordable. I saw both here in my visit, cheers boys in blue. My roasted chicken over black beans and rice was delicious, I asked for stewed chicken broth to go over the rice (which I asked for a very small portion of), and several slices of avocado on top, there was a small upcharge of $1 and they were very friendly and accommodating. I will definitely return for the other dishes, check out my photos for a better idea of a late afternoon's offerings.

I absolutely love coming here. This is perfect for a quick, no wait lunch but there isn't a large eating area so it's best for sit, eat, and go or take out. I wouldn't come here with a large group of people because again its a small place. The food though is always fresh and tastes great. They have a good variety of food that is already made that you can choose from along.I personally love the beef stew. It's awesome. Lunchtime can be a little busy but the ladies here are always nice and keep things moving quickly. I've always had a good experience coming here.

Pork ribs and okra over rice & beans - tender and tasty

My husband and I came here because our car was in the shop for maintenance. This small restaurant had very high ratings and great reviews. There were a bunch of groups here when we arrived. There were plenty of seats for everyone. I ordered the pork ribs and okra over rice and beans. The pork was falling off the bone. And okra was well cooked and lightly seasoned. Rice and beans were cooked perfectly. My husband got the pork and chicken with mashed yucca over rice and beans. The pork was very tender. The chicken was falling off the bones as well. They were well seasoned and not too salty. Mashed yucca as very interesting, which tasted like mashed potato but with a different texture.

My review is only for this dish

I only eat halal. They have the best yellow rice and beans! I've tried a few spots and they even beat a spot in Puerto Rico. A must try- smells amazing and nice staff. They even hooked me up with more beans. My son only eats beans from here!

I use to come here about 7 years ago and loved it. Moved out of area and finally back. The food is always fresh and very authentic. I always take my food to go but they have a nice small seating area if you plan to stay. Defiantly recommend.

This spot has been my go to for Dominican food for the past 10 years, I've been coming here since I was 12 and lived around the block from them. The quality of the food has never changed, amazing as always. My go to is always the chicken stew, the bone is always falling off the bone and super flavorful and moist. They have great lunch and dinner specials for under 10$

Let me tell you something. This RESTAURANT, is probably my favorite within a close radius to me…read more The food is phenomenal (to me, but I have yet to try everything they have to offer, thus far the chicken, beans, PEPPERSTEAK , empanadas, rice, plantains etc has all been good for me. The only time they had me a little skeptics is when a friend of mine ordered a tres leches, and suspected the milk may have curdled somehow I have no complaints regarding the service. I think they do their job and do it well, and there have been times that I've ordered a dish upon request and it was made FRESH on the spot. I don't converse with them often, and sometimes the food is a slight wait depending on WHAT you get, but no complaints there personally. As for the ambiance.. well, I am a native Jersey city resident so Ocean Ave is a usual to me. Most often if you mind your business, you should be fine as long as u go straight to getting your food, and go right home. And if u are confronted walk away and go about your business, thankfully this has always worked for ME. Internally the shop is cute as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't need it to be Michelin star decor! It's not about the what the store looks like in this case, it's definitely about the quality of the food, which to me is great. I'd definitely recommend you check it out for yourself! And my personal recommendation (my go to) is of course the pepper steak w rice and beans. It usually brings me to a total of $14 flat. If you order other combos (such as the meats alone) it also Comes to a good price. I once ordered chicken, pepper steak, plantains and beans w no rice and my total was $21! And it lasted me more than a single day.

The food tastes good. The price seems a bit high for the portion of food you get but it's expensive…read moreeverywhere nowadays.

The Heights has always kept it real, and places like this are a welcome reminder of the no-nonsense attitude that defines the neighborhood. Location: smack in the middle of the Heights' main thoroughfare, near such classics as Gino's pizza (yay!) and the JC Parking Authority office (ugh). Style: Little more than a lunch counter and a few tables, so don't expect Michelin star treatment. Instead, peruse their daily specials (usually various types of chicken, beef, rice, beans - and don't forget the empanadas!). The food is continuously prepared throughout the day (but if you show up too late in the afternoon, your favorite dish may be sold out for the day). Food: Yum! Home cooked meal goodness. This is not fusion bistro style food. This is authentic Latin cuisine, and pretty much everything I've sampled there is a winner. Value: The dishes come in two sizes. The inappropriately named "Lunch Special" (which is available at all times, not just lunch) is my go-to; it's tough to find many places around that can fill you for just $6 (!!) for a dish of rice beans and chicken. If you're a bit hungrier (or would like to share), the next size up is only a couple of bucks more. Verdict: Easily up there with Pizzamasters as my favorite classic JC Heights eatery. It won't be featured in the NY Times anytime soon (at least I hope not - I wouldn't be able to deal with...nice people waiting on line for 45 mins to get in). But what it lacks in publicity and glamour, it more than makes up for with quick service, tasty food, and superb value.
